Fairmont Mayakoba was suggested by a friend of mine who stays there all the time. So, at the end of our itinerary, we booked it for 3 nights. This review is un-bias, and based on my experience only. As raved about, the wet towels for hands were offered at the entrance:it did not make much for me but it was a graceful gesture, for sure. From the first second, the staff tries to make sure that you feel as good as possible. In our case, we had to change 2 rooms before landing the perfect one ( we had a Casita Deluxe ) but once found, it was a perfect match: the room was straight amazing. Our receptionist's name was Ricardo and he was truly fantastic throughout the stay. He was always there for us trying to accommodate our needs. He was always ready to go the extra mile to help us, and he was professional yet warm. He felt almost like a friend at the end of our stay there. First and foremost, the hotel property is huge, beautiful, and quite well sustained. The staff there seems to happy, smiling among each other, communicative and helpful, so the whole atmosphere is joyous. Mayakoba has a variety of activities for kids and adults -- yoga, salsa lessons, golf, spa, and more. The golf fields looked very impressive. Unfortunately, we were physically unable to explore them all but I can recommend the boat trip at the laguna - Angel was a great guide, with a wonderful attitude, nice vibe and helpful insights about the property. The breakfast ( served until 12 PM which is fantastic, btw) had an impressive ( especially, at the Laguna restaurant) selection of plates and food was fairly good. For a more intimate experience, you might wanna try going to the other two restaurants. By the way, their in-room service offers an incredible breakfast as well ( tried their croissants, French toast, salmon, and oatmeal, it was delicious ). Now, with all fairness, the lunch and dinner food and beverages at the restaurants could have been much better for the price range. As a lot of people advised here, for fine dining, go to the city -- we discovered Harry's Steaks on our last night there and it was fantastic, for example. However, again, the restaurants' staff is mostly very nice and helpful. We had a severe food poisoning from a Tulum trip just before, and Aaron, the manager of the Laguna restaurant was so understanding and brought us chicken broth ( our waiter, Jesus was also very nice ). The beach is beautiful and you can see the hotel's constant effort to keep it tidy and appealing ( they were cleaning the sargasses every morning ). However, deprived of the natural current because of the artificial wave stoppers * which look cute btw, the Ocean's bottom ( sand ) felt slightly too muddy. It was a pity. Otherwise, the beach was beautiful and huge. At the beach, you can enjoy the paddleboards, kayaking and jet ski, as well as the volleyball. The beach food and drinks sevice was slow, though Luis (waiter) seemed to be adequate and apologized, we waited for our food for nealy 40-50 minutes... One HUGE plus of this hotel is its cleanness and the incredible job of the housemaids. Everything was kept spotless, even the space under the bed. The service comes twice a day (second time being for refreshing purposes). Tip: bring a LOT of small bills *US or pesos, for graceful tipping. The hotel has a tourist office, so you can book the activities there. I highly recommend dealing with Emma: she is a wonderful, quick-on-her-feet, and truly intelligent person. The slight inconvenience was caused by the transportation within the resort. The golf carts run quite often, but sometimes it might take some time to get one, or it could be fully packed, and though the bicycles ( provided by the property ) can be a great alternative, there are not always enough of them... so plan ahead your itineraries within the property! The resort's gym is quite nice and have refreshing towels *absolutely amazing, btw, and water *yummy. The machines are new and sturdy, and there are some weights to train with. The spa seemed to be incredible as well. Spa's store has a cute selection of the local merchandise and cosmetics, and its consultant Sandra was very helpful. We had only one minor hiccup with the receptionist Fernanda and addressed that with the manager-concierge, Fernando, and the stuff manager, Jorge. Both seemed to be seriously concerned and made their best to quickly resolve the issue and successfully make up for the unfortunate experience. Another staff member, a consirger called Fernando, was very friendly and helpful as well. Overall, we had an incredibly relaxing stay there. The Fairmont resort is a great resort but what wins your heart completely is its service. They treat you like a family, like a royal family Is it perfect? No. But it is truly striving to be. So, definitely recommend and definitely coming back.
Gerry was excellent!
Outstanding trip which was greatly benefitted by our wonderful butler, Gerry. He went above and beyond and made our trip excellent! He booked our reservations, answered our every small question, and thought ahead on our behalf. Thanks Gerry.
Best Resort I’ve stayed in everything is top quality had amazing service at the restaurant by hugo the server every other day. Will definitely be back and will be recommended. A bit pricey but worth every penny for a real luxury resort.
Fabulous family holiday
I am compelled to write a review of this fantastic place as it was one of the best family holidays we have ever had - tears came to both my husband and my eyes as we said goodbye to our amazing butler Daniel and left for the airport for our trip home to the UK - we are normally not that emotional!! I cannot fault anything or anyone. We had interconnecting rooms - one for my husband and I and one for my daughter 15 and son 10. The rooms were spacious with fabulous bathrooms and lots of facilities. Our Beach Casita was near to one of the pools and the beach which was perfect for the children to pop in and out when they wished. We are really glad we had rooms here rather than further away from the pools/beach. Las Brisas was a great restaurant with fabulous views and dreamy for breakfast. The staff were excellent but I have to mention Alberto who was super attentive. We loved El Puerto restaurant too and the bar in the main lobby. Even at the height of the season it didn’t feel too busy and there was always plenty of pool and beach sun beds. We didn’t want a busy time so didn’t do too much - snorkelled, took the catamaran trip, paddle boarded and did one excursion but if we had wanted there was lots available to do off site which Daniel was more than happy to arrange. Every day Daniel found us and asked ‘what can I do to make your day better’ - what could be nicer than hearing that?? and every day he sorted anything that we needed - however big or small - nothing was too much trouble and it really made our stay truly special. We would love to come back some day. We were staying on an all inclusive basis which was fantastic as we didn’t have to worry about prices as this is a pricey resort.
Wonderful stay in Mayakoba
I have stayed in the Fairmont Mayakoba 4 times in the past with my family and everybody loves it, this last time we stayed 8 nights and it was a lot of fun. We were really sad to leave after having a great time. The location was fantastic, everyone was super helpful. The pools are very nice for adults and kids. This is a great family resort. Food is a bit pricey but expected in a resort. We had the all inclusive package most of our stay and worked out great so no need to worry about finding where to eat. To move around the resort you can use bicycles or have a ride in the gold carts that take you anywhere. The boat tour is A must with kids. Water activities like kayak or catamaran trip were awesome. Overall is a great place to have a relaxing vacation. A few things I notice this time that I think could be improve: - Some of the facilities could use a little face lift, it is starting to show wear. Beach area houses and gardens are nicely kept but other parts of the resort could be improved. Some houses had paint falling down, decor on the rooms is looking a bit antiquated. -service on the beach was slower that I remember, I was in no rush but it was a slow. -food menu could have more variety, not bad but after 4 days it gets old. -notice some mold on the roof on some of the restaurants. Hard problem on the weather of the region. -I found a couple of dead roaches in my room. This time I was in the lower floor so probably they get inside under the door, this freaked me out a bit since I hate roaches.
