Everyone got sick
Went to this resort for a destination wedding. On first arrival, rooms are NOT ready until exactly 3pm check in. So we got changed and headed to the pool. It took us forever to find where the beach towels were, it’s completely out of the way, away from the pool. Then there was no one to be found at the towel booth. They don’t just give towels out, you have to “check out” the beach towels. The pools were so hot it wasn’t even refreshing. The bottom of the pool is littered with hair balls. It was disgusting. The beach is right outside of the pool. The entire beach was covered with sharp rocks. It was impossible to even dip your toes in the water. Besides that, the amount of seaweed was unbelievable. They have people piling it into trucks all day but it doesn’t even make a dent. We tried to make reservations for dinner, but it was mostly all booked. We had a large group and they weren’t able to accommodate us by pushing tables together, even after making a reservation. We finally sat down and they told us to quickly order because the kitchen was closing. The food at the restaurant was better than the buffet, but not by much. The buffet had the SAME FOOD every day. After the second day I was tired of it. We were looking for some authentic Mexican foods, they didn’t even have tacos. We left the “ please clean” thing on our door knob for the entire day. No one came to clean it. We had to go to the main desk to ask for them to clean the room up. There was only one shower towel in our room, I had to go to the desk and ask for more. I usually leave my room key ( each couple got two keys ) because I had no pockets. I didn’t think anything of it. The cleaning lady TOOK THE ROOM KEY out of the room. I went to the main desk and the guy seemed unbothered. He tried to give me another room key, even though whoever this was now had access to my room. I had to put up a stink that I wanted the room reset so that the other card key would not work. On top of that, the lady broke the top hinge on the door. I must have told four or five people that the door was broken. No one fixed it. To top all of this off, the entire group of people I went with became extremely ill. Whether it was the water ( although we all only drank bottled) or the food, it was something from the resort. Symptoms from everyone were chills, fever, abdominal pain, vomiting , and diarrhea. We couldn’t even enjoy the vacation, having to run to the bathroom constantly. Beware of this resort. I would not recommend.
Horrible services for prices you pay not worth it
I recently stay at this resort -- Services / food was horrible We stayed for 5 nights .. on the second night I was over their food .. they have a buffet set up the cooks looked bother n unwelcome .. if you ask a question you get bunk answer there was nothing delicious other that French fries .. desert HORRIBLE even the ice cream Lobby services -- I get to my room one bed in which I book for a two bed .. no iron but I have an ironing board .. I call lobby and they inform me I need to go back to the lobby to sign a paper for an IRON-- really ! and then a cleaning lady will drop off the IRON. Ridiculous ! So we got some cards to trade in for beach towels -- n if I lose a card I will be charge 23 US dollars per card. Well the place you trade in the card for the towels closes at 7 I did not get a chance to ever trade in my towels - guess what when I check out I have to take with my the stinky towels with me to the lobby and the IRON. I will never stay here again and recommend for you to look somewhere else
Our family vacation was amazing. We had varied ages in our groups, of 10, 19, 24, 44, and 46. We all had an incredible time at the Barcelo Maya. From the beautiful rooms to the restaurants, shopping, pool and beach, we all had something to do at all times. The staff was incredibly friendly and we will definitely be back for another vacation in the future. We had a few minor issues with the room, but nothing major that couldn't be solved with a quick call to the front desk. Check in was a little tedious but once that was out of the way, we had a fun time. The hotel met our needs and went above and beyond. We upgraded to premium after the first night which was worth the extra money and improved our stay a bunch.
Beautiful resort, great restaurants and friendly staff. The only issue we had was on our last day. We were at the pool when a group of young drunken adults decided to cause chaos (doing inappropriate stuff) while there were children around. The staff was informed however could it have handled the situation in a better way. Especially when there were people vomiting in the pool, instead of evacuating and cleaning, they just poured a chemical while there still people around).
Excellent family vacation spot!
We are here with our family for a wedding and I can say this is hands down the best vacation we have ever enjoyed. The service, facilities, food, employees are outstanding and make you feel so welcomed. I want to thank Anacleto at the front desk for providing us excellent service. He went above and beyond for us, so thankful for him. We will definitely be returning, such a wonderful experience!
