Overall is a great place to stay, many amenities and things to do. Not too crowed during this time of the year. Check in process was lengthy and exhausting but I would recommend this place especially for families with small kids.
Wonderful Wedding Week at Barcelo Grand Maya!
We would highly recommend this resort to anyone who is planning a destination wedding, especially with families/children. They have hundreds of free activities everyday so once the expense is paid, you don't have to worry about anything for you or your guests. We had 145 guests travel from the US/Europe for our wedding and everyone gave the resort RAVE reviews and some are planning trips to come back. It was a blast. You won't be disappointed. There are so many activities, pools, restaurants, and bars - there is always something going on/to do at the resort. We loved Juan Balam at the Coco Pool Bar who makes the best margaritas at the resort. Our recommendation for drinks at any place in the resort is two-fold: (1) call your liquor, or they’ll pour what’s cheap and (2) ask for a double…you won’t be sorry. :) We had our entire wedding stay at the Palace and we thought it was 100% worth the additional cost per night for our guests. The food and the level of service we found to consistently be above and beyond the other 4 resorts when we visited them. If you can negotiate a good rate, we think it’s worth every penny. The rooms are more upgraded and a bit larger and the resort amenities are all very close (kids club, kids pool, pool bar, restaurants and lobby, etc). We stayed in the Michocan building in a corner suite (Room #8015) on the ground floor near the pool and it was excellent. Occasionally the pool music was a little loud when we were trying to rest in the daytime, but that’s to be expected…we were up early and late with wedding things, so the middle of the day was our chance to nap… ;) Our housekeeper was Maria and she was amazing. We were in the room a lot when she came in (again….wedding things…) and she was quick and respectful of us being there. She also beautifully decorated our room on our wedding night. She was great about refreshing the amenities that were low/finished and bringing extra towels and pillows when requested. I wish I could remember the name of the wonderful young man who stocked our mini-fridge every day….he was very kind and made sure we had enough water and beverages for the day. On the days he knew we were going to be in the room more, he made sure it was extra stocked so we could get wedding things done and not have to leave to get a drink. Luis, at the Premium Lounge, checked us in and was there for most of our stay. Whenever we went to the Premium Lounge for something we needed cared for (restaurant reservations, assistance in booking something or looking something up) he was super helpful and accommodating. If he was at the Lounge when we were there, we knew our problems would be solved, so seeing him brought a smile to our face whenever we were there. Since we were there for a wedding, we also interacted a lot with Alfonso at the bell desk - he was responsible for delivering our gift bags every day and did a great job. He was so efficient and brought a list of names from the front desk to the room and went over the bags with us. It was AWESOME. I really appreciated the extra time he took to make sure people were checking in on the right day and making sure that their gifts were delivered. He also helped a lot of our guests (and us) with our bags for check in and check out. He really was the best, very hard working and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. I had my hair and make up done (along with my wedding party) at the USpa at the resort. Adriana was AMAZING. My hair and make up was flawless all day. Karla, the manager at USpa, was incredible and she worked VERY hard to make our appointments and my day very special. She really understood how important weddings are to people and took extra care to make it wonderful, even after I expressed some frustration early on. She paid no mind, and just did her best to make the our package treatments and salon appointments perfect. Issasi, Rosy, and Carolina also worked on my wedding party hair and make up and they all looked gorgeous. Issasi and Carolina were extra patient at our make up trial the day before, re-doing my mom’s make up 3-4 times to get it just PERFECT. We appreciated that we never felt rushed and that they were making adjustments so that we all looked beautiful on my wedding day. Our wedding coordinators were Abraham and Wendy and they were simply the best. They made sure that every little detail was cared for during our week we were there. Ivette, who was the weddings dept manager, was also incredible. She gave us our tour a year ago when we were looking at resorts and really was a big part of our decision to have our wedding at Barcelo Maya Grand. I can’t recommend them enough or say enough kind things about them. The weddings department is amazing. Our wedding was on Nov 9th. Our last day there, we reserved the catamarans and the snorkel gear. Armando, our captain, was so fun and took 8-10 trips out with our big group (50-60 people) in the catamaran. We reserved the boat and asked for someone to sail us that morning, the resort was happy to accommodate at no charge. We booked our travel through Apple Vacations, which I probably wouldn’t do again due to their booking/reservation system, but James at the resort was stellar. He called to check in on us a couple times and to make sure everything was going smoothly. Apple Vacations used Amstar as their transportation to and from the resort and we LOVED Amstar, especially Gloria and Angie who worked downstairs with James. They were the sweetest ladies and were super helpful to our group with booking excursions and transportation for the 145 guests we had. Even the drivers/shuttles to and from the airport, our guests said were comfy and good rides. They all were air conditioned and have seat belts. The drivers are professional and safe drivers. We would highly recommend Amstar if you’re looking for transport in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area. This was our second time at Barcelo Grand Maya and we know we’ll keep coming back. It was a relaxing and restful place - yes the resort is large, but then it never felt crowded. You could always have your piece of paradise.

Good hotel to stay at, Friendly Staffs
Went to this Family Friendly hotel with friends with kids in Mid-NOV. I booked my room through Expedia and upgrade to Premium Junior Pool View, they gave me a ground floor room. As it was super moisture even if the A/C on, and there were mold in the room; I got an allergy from it. The room above has having renovation, and the fountains outside the hallway were too noisy and lound, which I wouldn't rest well. Went to the club receptionist the other day and checked if I would change to another room because of these conditions. But they simply told me all Junior Suite is out, and only ground floor available. I was desperately needed to change to any room and hope that my allergy would get better. She went and checked with her supervisor so many times, then told me the only Suite will be available and none of the Junior suites will be available for the following dates. The price difference for the switching room was pretty expensive, though it was a corner suite on the 2nd floor. I went and checked out the room, it was way better (dry, quite and clean). Other than the room issue for 1st night, I am perfectly satisfied with the stay. -Nice and Friendly staffs -Good A LA CARTE restaurants -Easy to Reserve at premium level -Free daily Hydro Therapy for Premium The staffs (Michelle & Luis) from Premium are extremely helpful throughout the week stay.
Had fun celebrating parents’ special anniversary!
Beautiful surroundings. Rooms are very spacious. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Shows were very good, given that they have to appeal to a wide variety of people. Food at the Brasserie and the Caribe restaurants was particularly delicious.
