A slice of heaven?….far from it
We just checked out today and the day we checked in we had instant regret. I came here with my family 5 and I have 3 kids 10 and and under. At check-in the woman asks us if we saw pictures or the room to which I replied yes we did when we booked. We booked a 2 bedroom double bed/King so naturally you would assume that’s a 2 bedroom with 2 double beds and the option for a one of them as a king. “It’s the biggest room we have” she said but cautioned us about that the second double bed is the sofa bed in the living room? No where in the listing does it talk about a sofa bed. The fact that she asked me “have you seen the room” indicates things a common deception this hotel does to its customers. I obviously have to accept after traveling hours from Canada and another 1.5 hrs from the air port. I don’t fault the person at the front desk but this 100% a hotel/chain issue. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and false advertising division again Bahía chains. Second, it’s impossible to book any reservations because apparently they are booked 10’days in advance. Again not mentioned anywhere that’s even in the listing. We had 2/3 reservations at coba which was shut down as a result of the fire. They made no accommodations to help us rebook. Intact there were people who got there after us that were able to book in those places. How does that happen? I also want to caution you again the front desk staff Sandra who decided she wanted to play the role of the manager and said I can’t escalate anything beyond her. She definitely wasn’t a manager. Stay clear of her as she is very rude. She didn’t want to help and asked me to contact my travel agency for issues. Really? Third there was a fire at the sister resort Coba that I feel terrible for the guests. The resort was basically shut down as many places on that resort went on fire. So a lot of the Coba people came over to Tulum which I understand. However they didn’t size their staff to accommodate the influx of people so service further suffered Fourth, They also add on charges likes a Mexican party for 1800MX without even asking. We had to spend 5 min at check out saying we didn’t attend this party nor consented to it. They finally removed the charge. There is also a resort fee for around 20USD that you are suckered into paying. Again didn’t have to do that other resorts. Finally got to the pool; no pool towels, spoke to staff and said it’s coming in 15 min. We come back and it’s closed. Service is non existent. The food so far has been less expensive than thrilling. It’s boiling in the main foyer, AC only in the rooms. The pool was nice, rooms generally clean although dated. Our shower plugged on the first day and shower head just fell off. It was our last night so we didn’t complain about the shower head. TIP: if you require room service don’t call front desk, do it through the app. They are far more responsive as I assume it’s tracked and monitored. We called 3x to get the shower fixed. 6 hours passed and nothing. Put in a request through the app and they were there within 30 min. This was a tip another guest gave us and it was true. The only highlight was the kids club so shout out to that staff who work hard with the kids to keep them entertained. They will send you pics of your kids having fun giving us peace of mind. My kids really liked it there and we really liked the staff. We frequent Mexico atleast once a year if not twice and I have to say it this so far is the worst resort we have been to hands down Please book elsewhere and save your money. Your family will thank you later

A fabulous vacation in Paradise!
The service is excellent, the food at the buffet as well as the restaurants were very good, and the location feels like paradise. One of our group broke an ankle on our excursion and they were more than accommodating for her disability during the rest of our trip. I will be returning with my family soon.

Amazing resort with terrible room
It was our second time at Bahia Principe, though last time we stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Coba and this time at Grand Tulum. While the resort itself is great and we have no complaints, the room itself at Grand Tulum was disappointing. We stayed at one of the remodeled rooms and we hated the bathroom design... In fact, there is no "bathroom" per se but rather an area with a glass door hiding the toilet and another area hiding the shower. The rest is basically an open-floor plan with a half wall separating the bedroom area from the "bathroom" area. This sucks for several reasons: 1) No privacy 2) Glass doors for the toilet, really? And you can't even lock it? Whose bright idea was that? 3) The shower area... Tiny! You barely have any room there to move your arms without hitting your elbow on something and you can't change inside it either. So, after taking a shower, you have to leave that tiny cabinet-sized area and put on clothes outside. 4) Given the open-floor plan, the glass doors and the glass window in the shower area, there is no way to block the sunlight from making the bedroom too bright as soon as the sun is up. So, in short, amazing resort but the room sucks!

Babies crying everywhere
We are currently at BP Tulum. Came 2 years ago same dates. Great. Just a few children enjoying everything with families. This time crying babies everywhere. Can't move for buggies in buffet at times. Example In a la carte Indian around 30 people in place at 8pm. 5 crying babies for most of our 3 course meal. Crying babies at pool this morning. Now watching football in sports bar with crying baby. Why people would expect a baby / toddler to cope with 36 feels like 40 degrees is beyond me Coba is the family place and is actually better this time. Just families enjoying the sun and facilities.

Great Family Vacation in Spite of the Imperfections
My family (wife, kids ages 8 and 11) had a great time during our stay, though there were some imperfections. Pros: -Rooms were spacious, with sofa bed in living room working well for kid beds. We appreciated the built-in drying racks on the balcony. -Pools were big, warm, and shallow enough (1.25 m or so) so that even my younger kid could stand most of the time. My 11YO and I spent hours tossing a frisbee around in the pool. -Great service around the resort -Golf carts driven by staff made getting around quick and easy, including traveling to the Coba resort -Wildlife spotting was fun: we saw coatis, agoutis, iguanas, raccoons, and lots of birds -The Friday night rock show was good Cons: -Smells: room smelled moldy when entering, though I never saw mold. Toilet (sewage system) smelled a bit funky, too. -Buffet and dining room: The food was mostly fine, though the fish, fresh crepes and always available ice cream were highlights. The kids' area was underwhelming, often with unusual food that didn't seem to be in the right place. The buffet area was always hot and the dining spaces were also uncomfortably warm. -There was a lot of seaweed on the beach, though it was not stinky. The hotel put in a valiant effort to clear it every day, with workers raking it and bulldozers pushing it away. -Shows: the Thursday night pop show didn't hold my kids' interest as much as the Friday night one. Also I wish the shows started at 8:00, not 9:00, for the kids. -AC: the living room AC was always loud. It was either freezing or not on, with no in-between option. Maintenance tried to fix it, but things didn't change.
