Beware the cockroaches and rude staff

Stayed for two weeks with my husband, daughter, son in law and three year old grandson. We were in building 15 on the fourth floor. We both had junior suites but in my daughters they only had one bed, it took 4 days to get a bed for my grandson, not good. The rooms are spacious, large bathrooms with walk in showers and bath tubs but they need refurbishing, and when anyone in an adjacent room or upstairs is using the shower it smells very bad rotten drain smell. Bed was comfortable and big, bedding was just two sheets but it was hot so that was fine. Balcony was fine, 5 dead cockroaches out there that stayed for the whole two weeks, no cleaning was done out there. We were shown to our room about 4.45 pm, it was still light, we found we had no electricity. We informed the reception and they said they would send someone, nearly four hours later somebody came to repair it. This happened a lot during our stay, the electric would go off and it took hours for maintenance to come and sort it out. On two occasions the electricity went off in the whole block, over night, so we were all left without air conditioning. When i queried this I was told that it was planned and it was a maintenance issue, but nobody was told before hand. The buffet dining area is huge, it sounds like a very noisy school canteen. The food wasn't bad, there was always something to eat, but when we saw a live cockroach crawling around the salad bar this really put us off. The a la carte restaurants are hard to book into, and the food was slightly better in the Don Pablo than any of the others, but we were put off when we saw a two inch cockroach in the middle of the restaurant, everyone in there saw it. The lobby bar serves drinks and in the daytime you can get tea/coffee/cake. There is a bar outside on the terrace of the lobby also. There are beach and pool bars and they serve alcohol, no hot drinks but soft drinks also. The pool is fine, nice size and plenty of sunbeds. The beach is lovely, we spent most of our time at the far end of the beach, a long walk but very peaceful and convenient for toilets, jerk hut and bar. Really lovely spot that was never crowded. Tips; now this was really an issue. I will tip if I get good service, here, the majority of staff are rude, not engaging and if you don't tip immediately do not want to serve you in an appropriate way. I paid for an all inclusive holiday, nowhere did it state that tips were obligatory, I am more than happy to tip if I have had good service, but this was very sporadic and definitely not in the main buffet or the bars, other than the two beach bars. The staff at the beach bars were so polite and engaging and I tipped everyday. Gerrick was such a nice man and went over and above, so I was happy to sort him out. The hotel is huge, its very loud, the noise from people in the corridors outside your room can be an issue when you are trying to sleep. We have been to Jamaica six times and first time at this hotel, we would definitely not return, it is not value for money, there are cleanliness issues, the building needs a refurb, staff need better training, cockroaches need to be sorted and food needs to be better quality.

    Fantastic- great food & entertainment.

Just returned from a memorable 7 days at the Bahia Jamaica Grande. We were a group of 11. We got the Ocean view rooms and they did not Disappoint. The beds were comfy, fridge was stocked daily and the view, especially sunset was amazing. Some areas of the hotel and rooms are a little tired and need an update like the orquida buffet dining hall, bathrooms, the stairs over the pool were slippery and dangerous because of wear and tear. Beautiful Beach stretches, and lots of beds available. Other than this, staff were fantastic, friendly, courteous and accommodating Choice, selection of buffet and ala cartes was great. Entertainment crew were amazing- shout out to the team Derize Trusty Tiffany Orlando David & Kevin Amazing time, we will be back.

    Never again cockroaches

It’s has maintenance issues and tons of cockroaches there in the restaurants around the ground floor. You see him more at night, but the prevalent in the food and the buffets. You literally see him climbing on food which is disgusting I’ve stayed here before and they kept the place. Much cleaner maid been in my room for a week. There was garbage in my closet when I got here and still there.

    Big Disappointment

I'll start by saying this was my 4th time to JA and 1st time at Bahai. I'll never go back. I went for a wedding with about 75 ppl. The hotel is really big and a lot of safety concerns. After like 10pm it's a ghost town, there is barely any staff or security. While we were there they shut off the power twice at night, without prior notice. I was locked out of my room and had to stay with my friend because there was nobody at the front desk. The staff on the grand side, other then the front desk or the house keeping were bad. The male bartenders were the worst and rude. Didn't matter if you tipped. They would run to the back so they wouldn't have to serve you. This happened multiple times. They ran out of alcohol pretty much every day. We were initially informed that we got top shelf options but that ended up being a lie. Unless your on the adults only side be prepared to be treated like trash. You can get a day pass for $12 US. If you're in building 23 all the food is on the other side of the resort. The food situation was bad on the grand side. The outside restaurants always had flies on the food, nothing was covered and left in the heat. They were not replenishing, so if it ran out that was it. I will say if you happen to get fresh JA food at Pisces or the Round Island restaurant it was good. There is no AC other then your room( if your lucky) and the Round Island restaurant. Warning, the floors by the pool and outside lobby area are very unsafe if your shoes are even a little wet, especially the stairs and bridges. The "beach" situation was bad very rocky and lots of seaweed, you have to have water shoes. Probably the worst Beach I've experience. There were a lot of issues with sewage getting into the pool or people throwing up/poop in it. Overall aesthetically this resort looks like a 4.5 but it operates like a 3. I wouldn't recommend.
