Fantastic Jamaican Getaway – Exceptional Hospitality & Tasty Buffet

My stay at Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay was a fantastic experience. The staff were consistently pleasant, helpful, and courteous, enhancing the overall atmosphere. The room and grounds were impeccably clean and well-maintained. The buffet restaurant stood out with its wide variety of delicious meal options, catering to diverse tastes. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

    Holiday of a lifetime!

Just got back from two weeks in bahia principe grand Jamaica. So glad we decided to book after reading a lot of negative reviews, in our opinion we couldn’t see why this was the case at all. The resort was beautiful & the grounds were stunning, you can see how hard the staff work to keep the place immaculate. The rooms do need updating, but I think they know that hence why they are starting renovations!….you cannot complain for the price at all. We booked with TUI all inclusive and it was a fabulous experience from start to finish, you don’t have to worry about flights/transfers as everything is included! There were more than enough food options available & different areas to eat. The jerk chicken at the jerk hut was lush!! The pool was huge! Totally immaculate. The beach was incredible, clear blue waters. KEYNO CAMPBELL & KRONOS MEREDITH - (please pass the message onto them) These guys really made our stay here unforgettable, they were like rays of sunshine and kept up the positive energy every time we came down for breakfast/lunch, we asked to be seated in there area everyday, there service was top tier! We hope they soon get promoted, we will really miss seeing them for sure!! Shana Kay Dilworth & Kendisha (not sure on the last name) these girls were also soooo lovely to us everyday when coming down for breakfast and lunch, they all managed to keep our one year old entertained whilst doing an amazing job at serving. Thankyou guys so much. As you can probably tell we had a holiday of a lifetime, we hope to come back in the near future, thanks again! 🏝️❤️

Not worth the money and hassle

Let me preface by saying this: I studied Tourism Management and worked in the industry for years. I also was an airline crew and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels and resorts from two star to five star, from small Ramada Inn all the way up to the Waldorf Astoria NY. And I’ve covered many of the all inclusives. So I know what to expect of the resort and will look at the resort through knowledgeable eyes. This was our second visit in two years to the resort and we had high expectations based on a generally good experience in 2023. I’ll start with the positives. Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica has beautiful grounds. It has a nice beach. It is also a large property and so you don’t feel cramped like other resorts. Their Xamayca show as well as the Bob Marley and Major shows are fantastic. That was the highlight of our visit. Staff: Very inconsistent with their service. After checking in with a young woman who did the bare minimum, we were sent to the front of the lobby for one of the three bell hops to take our luggage. None of them made a move to help us. Only after I asked if they could assist us, did one step forward to assist us with our luggage. I would say a good half of them acted reluctant to serve us, despite us being friendly and respectful and tipping them. One bartender at the beach was downright surly. Another one, a man, mimicked and laughed at my twelve year old daughter in the lobby who was giggling at something her sister said. Why this was acceptable for a grown man to ridicule a child is unacceptable to me. Rooms: The rooms were outdated and lacked full amenities. Garbage bins not lined. Not enough towels and rags. Smell of sewerage in some blocks and floors of the resort. Food: I’d rate it 2.5/5. The buffet choices were fine for most days but the food was just not very good quality. Scrambled egg were runny, bacon burnt, fry dumplings tasted of the baking powder and flour. The jerk chicken from the grill was the worst jerk I’ve ever tasted. No flavour! I’ve had better jerk in Canada! Drinks: Other than mixed drinks which were watered down, wine and sparkling wine and beer were fine. Service: On one occasion, we were not served drinks with our breakfast. Do not go to eat in the last hour of the breakfast run as it seems that some staff stop working on the last hour of the meal. We asked about the drink orders and was told someone was told someone was coming. I’m still waiting on those drinks. The hotel was at 60% occupancy (according to one staff) and on more than one occasion we were turned away from the buffet because the buffet could not accommodate everyone and were sent to the beach restaurant. The staff down there were not in any urgency to serve drinks either. One last caution: They will try to get you to sign up for something very similar to a time share called Privilege Club. You have to do a presentation with them and then you’re ushered into a lounge where they try to get you to buy a vacation plan for thousands of dollars, and you have to give them a yes or no answer right there. Needless to say, we did not purchase it. Overall, I am not impressed and am disappointed with the overall experience. I will not be going back.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - BEWARE

Wow, what an utter disappointment. Book somewhere else, this place is on the way out. We were told by staff that it's shutting down in December and opening back up under another hotelier. The staff are absolutely miserable. The place is dirty. We walked by the same garbage in the stairwell for 7 days in a row. The food...let's just say if you love food, this is not the resort for you! When we got there our phone didn't work (still didn't on day 7 after 3 complaints - we had no way of contacting anyone at the resort) safe was broken and so was our AC. They "fixed" (using this term lightly) our AC that a few days later leaked from the ceiling at midnight. They sent someone at 1am to repair the active leak because it was in the middle of our room. The cleaning lady would leave one towel yet they were two of us saying here. I could seriously go on but you get the point. They closed the buffet for 3 days. Lol. And they only let you make 3 al LA carte restaurant resos (which by the way were never full, they just never booked the entire restaurant. Just told ppl they were always full). So people were scrambling to figure out where to eat. They said if you want you can go to the Luxury side and pay for the buffet. Bahahahah, jokes. You can't make this stuff up! Oh, they closed down the lobby/sports bar on Saturday night. Just didn't serve anyone and removed all the booze from the shelves. People were up in arms as there was no where else to hang out and grab cocktails. They just decided at 10Pm to shut down. Tourist started to bang cups and yell. By 11:30 to brought all the booze back out and started serving again. DO NOT WASTE your money. 1 plus side - Gerrick! He is by far the nicest and friendliest staff at the whole resort. He bartends at the very end, and I mean VERY end of th beach, next to the nude section. He's amazing. You'll want to hang out with him all week vs the miserable staff that serves drinks at the pool bars. Man, never been to a resort where the staff was like this! Will NEVER go back to a Bahia ever again.
