    50th Anniversary Celebration

    Honestly, the negative reviews had me worried for nothing. We were a group of 23 family and friends that came into town on different airline packages. Do your on-line check-in for the rooms, which you can do 10 days in advance via the Bahia Principe app. I lined up for less than 10 minutes in the lobby. I had the key cards and bracelets for the 5 rooms I booked for our 12-member family in less than 10 minutes. I even packed extra bath, beach towels & soaps, shampoo & conditioner because of the reviews. None were used because they were all provided for. Every time I put the blue card on the door knob to request room to be cleaned, it was done, and towels and bathroom supplies were replenished. If I wanted extra towels, or toilet paper, I simply went up to the housekeepers with their carts, politely asked, & was given what I wanted. Carried the towels, hand towels, face towels myself to our room. No problem. Room was initially warm when we entered. A/C & fan in sitting area was left on our entire stay. We only stayed in our rooms to sleep. Lots of food to choose from the buffets, restaurants, bbq spots, for all meals. We didn't touch any of our snacks we brought because we were so full after our meals. I find it difficult to understand how you can't find something that you'd enjoy eating. I didn't see any cockroaches. Flies were here and there but they weren't as abundant as the other reviews that I read. Beach on the Grand side, behind villa 16-18 was beautiful and maintained. We spent majority of our days here. No fighting over beach loungers. Pools were huge, but water was warm and not so refreshing in the heat and humidity. It was busy there and they had lots of activities. It was the party place all day. Even the kids pool had the kids engaged in various activities. Expect alot of walking and stairs. It is an extremely large resort. Elevators were also a bit of a distance to walk to in the main building and in the villas. My parents and other seniors had a little bit of difficulty getting around. Nightly entertainment was great. But we were so tired by 11pm, that we couldn't make it to the karaoke activity or disco. One thing that I wished they told us when they give you your room key is that the complex is divided into villas. Simply told us we were in room 16420. We figured out on our own after much unnecessary walking & walking & walking, the first two numbers is the villa #16, 420 is the 4th floor and room number. Met some people who complained about the heat and humidity and asked how I was coping. I laughed and said it's the carribean, what did you expect. There is a breeze from the sea, the air isn't stifling like the concrete jungle of the Greater Toronto Area, where it's hard to breath on our hot & humid days. They complained about the bugs. Again, I laughed. Did they not research where they were going to vacation? I had great experiences with the staff. If someone was rude, maybe they were having a bad day? There are alot of workers in the complex and on the grounds working hard in that heat and humidity. Would you always be able to plant a smile on your face for your whole shift? We all plan to return. Definitely enjoyed this complex. Just need to make sure you bring great walking shoes!!

    Hot, buggy and smelly.

    First off, the front desk staff are abysmal. They are slow and don't seem to care. Hotel has terrible air conditioning...our first room was like a furnace with the AC running and we were told that it was working as intended. The walls were sweating and the floors were wet and sticky. We were eventually moved to a room that was cooler but that too failed. Food is bad. I was surprised by the fruit...it was all so bland with no sweetness at all. Wondered how they did that? Even bargain watermelon is sweet most of the time. The pool is lovely, but that's the only good thing about the place. I could not wait to leave...counted every day. We also saw cockroaches several times (big ones), and the bathrooms did smell bad. A la carte restaurants were not good but the Italian one was absolutely terrible. Avoid it at all costs. Every mechanical system at this place (from the mini-fridges to the air conditioning to the ceiling fans, to the sliding doors in the rooms) was broken and in need of replacement. Old and tired. DO NOT VISIT.

    Chose another resort

    Poor front desk service. They actually gave another guest our room and they walked in as my travel partner was coming out of the bathroom. This alone should have got us a full refund! Smell of sewage Poor layout of resort Food is HORRIBLE! By far the worst resort food I have ever had Staff seems to tolerate you

    Unfortunate experiences during recent family reunion

    We recently visited Bahia Principe for my family reunion. Overall, I felt that the service at the resort was sub-par and there were multiple things that if remedied could of made the experience a more enjoyable one. On the first evening that I arrived I was given a room. When my husband, sons (ages 4 and 8 months) arrived to the room, the AC was not working, there were only 2 towels (just large towels, no face towels or medium towels) in the room and the phone in the room was not working. Thus, after standing in a line for over 30 minutes to get the initial room I had to go downstairs to explain the various things that were happening. When I attempted to go downstairs with my son (age 4) we got stuck on the elevator for a few minutes and then eventually it started moving again. Upon arriving to the front desk and telling them of my multiple experiences and that I would like another room and to speak to a manager I was given another room and told a manager would contact me on the next day. This contact from the manager never happened the remainder of my days there. Further details regarding our stay are provided below: 1. Staff throughout the resort need to be retrained. People were rude and would roll their eyes, or “kiss their teeth” when asked for assistance finding an area. To provide a specific example of an encounter we experienced when we asked for jerk chicken at the outdoor restaurant next to the pool, the woman serving the jerk chicken rolled her eyes at my cousin and I although we had been waiting for jerk chicken for approximately 30 minutes. The chicken was finally done and was sitting on the grill behind us. After rolling her eyes and making up her face she did cut the chicken and give us a few pieces. 2. There are small roach looking bugs at all of the Buffet restaurants. Oftentimes, there are crawling close to certain food stations and on the walls of the dining areas. 3. We received a fruit basket after being there for 2 days and our larger family stated in our what’s app chat it was for the myriad of inconveniences. Due to the fact that we had a do not disturb sign on our door we were surprised someone had come into the room and there was no note associated with the fruit basket because until I looked in my family’s what’s app chat I did not know who it was from. When we arrived back to the room on the day that the fruit basket was dropped off, our room smelled like smoke, there was smoke ash on the bed and the outside balcony also had smoke ash. 4. It is extraordinarily difficult to get a reservation at the restaurants that aren’t buffets. I was told it was because the restaurants were all booked but when we finally did get a reservation the restaurant was empty. In addition, if the hotel was at capacity they would not have been able to switch my room the first evening I was there. 5. The AC unit stopped working in the middle of the night on my last night in the hotel. This was in my second room (phone was working) when I called down they said someone would be right up. I called back 30 minutes later and was told one of the lines had fallen and they weren’t sure when it would be restored. 6. There is a clear difference between the luxury adults only side and the side for families. Given the amount of money I spent this should not be the case. Just because people have children doesn’t mean they should receive a downgraded experience. 7. There were multiple areas in the hallways where the rooms are located where the paint on the wall was chipping and seemed that it had water damage. Given the recent hurricane this makes sense but in my opinion more should of been done to ensure that guests were safe from any potential contaminants from the paint, etc. 8. Our toilet clogged and couldn’t flush so we had to have a maintenance person come and unclog the toilet. The maintenance person told me that this was an issue that is widespread throughout the hotel and that it wasn’t our fault that this occurred and it was due to the volume of people at the resort.
