Noisy and a smokers haven
First time at this resort. My son and his family invited us for a family vacation. The staff were friendly , most spoke English and would help you with your Español. The dining room is enclosed with no AC so it gets quite warm where you eat. The main courtyard out front of the dining room and lobby has entertainment ( live music / karaoke) each night buy a LOT of people smoked there. No ashtrays so they just stubbed them on the ground. Or left them smouldering on top of the garbage receptacles. Smoking was tolerated around the pool too.. I even saw a couple smoking while standing in the pool ! Even the lobby area where people would gather and the sports bar would have smoke wafting through because the smokers lingered at the entrances. The main pool had a nice water slide area for kids. After my grandkids left I would go to the “quiet” pool but lots of kids in there too. If you’re seeking a quiet holiday without kids and smoke free this is not the resort for you. Definitely will not be going back.

Smokers Paradise
Good Things: Lobby, Bars, Drinks availability (you can have most of the drinks on display if you ask), Most staff, Pools, Snack bar(s) Bad Things: Coba/Tulum Rules - You cannot use any of the bar facilities in Tulum/Akumal hotels, despite restaurants on your all inclusive being located in Tulum. Having reserved dinner in Tulum, you have no ability to get a drink before or after the meal (its not my fault thats where they chose to put the restaurant!). You have to turn up within plenty of time or they will cancel your reservation but you have nothing to do! Cleanliness - looks clean on the surface but walk around the room for 2 mins after you are out of the shower and your feet are filthy. Main Restaurant - Its very hot in main restaurant. The gala xmas eve meal was a shambles with hundreds of people arriving at the same time creating dangerous queues for food and a very unpleasant experience. Most people just gave up. Terrible Things: Smoking: Mexico's no-smoking law, which took effect on January 15 2023, prohibits smoking in most public places, including: beaches, parks, hotels, sports stadiums, shopping centres, public transport, restaurants, event spaces, squares, and stores. The hotel totally ignores it and allows people to smoke wherever they want, even under signs where it is says "100% no smoking" and nothing is enforced. Having complained to both the hotel concierge and to our tour operator (TUI) I received nothing but generic platitudes as they have no interest in fixing the problem. The reason is because more people enjoy flouting the rules and smoking than complain about it.

terraces in Grand Bahia Principe
my husband and i have gone to Grand Bahia probably 20 times. We are black members in this resort. We love the beach, food, service, climate etc. Over the years the resort made some improvements. We were thrilled to see 2 new outdoor areas for eating. One in Tulum and one in Akumal, both attached to the restaurant/buffet area. To our big surprise last December both those terraces were periodically closed for services due to hot weather (?) and logistics (?) . Thats what we were told by the staff. We go to Mexico to be outdoors as much as possible and telling us that for no reason we have to dine at the AC controlled area makes no sense to us. We are going back in April and we hope those restriction won't be in place.

19th visit
This was our 19th visit to this wonderful resort. Everything was great. Don't believe some of these picky reviews that complain about every little thing, this place is amazing and if you don't have a great time, you need to look in the mirror and see why. The check-in was fast and pleasant. The staff all across this resort are freindly and helpful. The girls serving drinks at the lobby are amazing, Loida, Theresa, Ofelia,. and of course my great friend Sandra who always makes me smile. The staff at the pool bars are also very nice. The food and drinks are always good with great selections. There is always lots going on with very good entertainment. I have been to many resorts all over the Caribbean but there is a reason I always end up back at Bahia Principe. Stayed for 2 weeks again at Xmas and it was absolutely amazing.

Great family resort
This resort was great for families. Perfect water park set up for younger kids, two huge pools with shallow ends for playing, and activities near the pool each day for older kids and adults The buffet always had a ton of options although as a family with allergies we did find it hard to confirm some foods ingredients to be honest, but this was expected. Also a snack bar near the main pool with good options during the day. We only got into a few restaurants but they were great, and had kids meal options also and found the restaurants better at managing food allergies. Access to more of the a La cartes would be ideal but it seems there was some flexibility to book more when you get there too, we just didn’t try. One thing we didn’t realize from the site was that the beach was a bit far for this resort as there is a resort infront of it, so you had a long walk or a trolly/golf cart ride to get there. Luckily they came very often but we missed being able to just pop down the beach. It’s was a lovely beach in my opinion and a bit rocky here and there but very swimable and lots of room for kids to play along the water. Down near the end on the other Akumel resorts side of the beach was a protected area with tons of fish you could swim with and the kids loved that. The rooms were nice and comfy but the ‘sofa bed’ was just a single bed on couch cushions so that was also not ideal for a family of 4 but we made it work and pushed the 2 small doubles together. If you went towards the tulum side of the beach there were huge waves to play in. All in all for the price we thought it was a perfect family resort. You’re in a tropical climate so things are gonna be humid, and access to some niceties is hard so we were not too picky with all the creature comforts.
