This resort exceeded my expectations by far. I read through some of the reviews and honestly, I don't understand the negative ones. I went with of a group of 10 people and we all had a wonderful time. I've been to several resorts in Mexico and Jamaica, and so far, this is one of my favourites. Beautiful and well cared for grounds, ocean views from every room, rooms were large, modern and clean. Nice variety of restaurants and the room service was nice too (although I will admit that ordering room service was a little challenging due to a language barrier - but next time I will try to learn a little Spanish to help this along :)). If you want to make reservations for the restaurants, I would suggest doing it as soon as you get there as they book up fast (or at least they did when we were there). I felt very safe and secure at this resort and even off site (although we never had reason to venture off at night). The staff were very friendly and always around to offer service or assistance if needed. There are 3 pools - an adult only, an activity pool that always seemed to have something going on, and my personal favourite, the infinity pool that overlooked the ocean and with the waterfall swim up bar. The beach was small but there are long beaches on either side of the hotel as well. There was nightly entertainment - between the Azul Grand and its sister hotel the Azul - only a short walk. Bus stop right outside the resort if you want to do some off resort exploring of the town. A short walk down the beach and you are at the pier where you can get a water taxi across to the island (only 5 pesos there and back). The island has restaurants/bars and lots of beaches as well. We hiked around the island too. I would recommend that you spend at least one day over there! Also, at the island, we were able to arrange for a fishing trip (can't remember the cost but I believe it was about $50 (Canadian) a person and we caught several bonitos - very tasty! One of the owners of a restaurant on the island cooked them up for us for a fee. Another place we checked out - we walked down the beaches past our hotel, past the pier and there was a little market there with local restaurants and vendors etc.. At certain times there was even some entertainment. There was also a crocodile reserve, if you are interested in seeing that (it's close to the pier and market). Another great feature was that the resort exchanged Canadian funds - considering most of the guests come from Canada, this is a nice surprise and very much appreciated. I saw that an American guest was not happy about this - consider how we Canadians feel when most all resorts won't take our money at all. Usually we have to exchange our Canadian dollars to American, which is very inconvenient. Anyways, back to the hotel - I will most definitely be returning and will gladly promote this resort to other travelers.
This place kicks ass!! Everything you want on a luxury vacation. I’ve stayed at both the grand and azul and they are great. The grand rooms are pretty sweet. Jacuzzi 3 room bathroom large ocean facing balconies and great food. Located 5 mins from ixtapa and about 20 mins from zihua makes this a perfect location. Isla ixtapa is 1 km off the playa Linda shoreline. Great deals to be had in zihua and there’s a bus that costs only 20 pesos to get there. Always +35 C and sunny. Don’t wait... go now 😉
Great set up
I really enjoyed my stay. Everuthing is great. I dont want to repeat what others have said so I will focus on one point. What is great about this resort is the architecture and the design of the grounds. Evrything is contained and near by. You dont have to walk long distances like in some of those more spreadout resorts. It is really beautyfyll and the food is really good. It has more the feel of a high end condo that an all inclusive resort. Yes the beach is small but you can go right or left of the hotel and you will find long beaches. The rooms are spacious and every roomhas an ocean view. Amazing place. I really dont understand some of the negatice comments. It is ridiculous.
Disappointment after disappointment
My husband, daughters and I decided to go on vacation to explore Zihuatanejo and landed on Ixtapa Grand All-Inclusive Resort. We were excited believing that it was the more premier hotel over its neighboring sister property and saw reviews and information that lead us to believe we would have full access to the sister properties amenities as well. That was NOT the case. Although we were greeted by many employees at the neighboring sister property who welcomed us and told us we could use the facilities, we were then approached by others asking us to leave and stating we could not enjoy the pool or kids water park. Everyone has conflicting information. After requesting to speak with a supervisor, they stated the kids could use the kids water park but we (adults) had to leave. We were not about to let our 2 & 9 year old stay alone!!! On our way out, we saw other people with colored wristbands from our hotel enjoying the amenities without a problem. During our stay, we were the only Americans. The hotel would not accept American money but would accept Canadian money. We thought this was inconvenient and odd. Also- make sure you know Spanish because very few of the staff know any English, unlike many of our travels to other countries. The kids were not allowed in the hot tub, although it was a mere 74 degrees max- nowhere near hot tub temperature. The middle pool was a hurricane zone with very strong winds. The only pool that would shield from any winds was an adult only pool. The infinity pool was probably the best part of our trip but there was no music playing out there and the single swim up bar was closed the whole time. The resort advertised 3- swim up bars, but only has one and it was closed!!! There was no entertainment staff! We had to discover on our own what the shows were and what was actually going on. From our trip, we only saw them hosting rifle shooting and spin bikes in the pool. The night time shows were pretty bad. A projector screen in a hotel conference room with a few dancers. The DJ night scene was the only thing to do after 9:00pm. Small dance area and a lot of bored looking people. They had billiards tables but regardless of how many people wanted to use them, they closed them at 11:00. We didn’t understand why they wouldn’t just leave them open- it requires no extra staffing on their part. The beach is basically a small patch of sand with waves. Nothing like the neighboring resorts long stretch of calm waves with lounge furniture. We were excited about exploring the island of Ixtapa and finally were able to after it was closed due to a storm the night before. We enjoyed the island the best! The food was so-so. I wouldn’t recommend anything other than the Mexican. I could not swallow the Italian. The buffet was hit or miss. Basically they have about 8 options for food that just repeat to make it look like a full buffet. Lastly, I wanted to go to the spa for a massage and a manicure but they charged $47 USD for a manicure, That’s more than I pay in California! The massage was quoted at $100 even though I got one on Island Ixtapa for $20. Overall, the pool was nice but that’s all there was to it. I could probably stay in
I do not recommend it, there is only a very limited buffet restaurant and 3 a la carte that you can access on a limited basis, you arrive early and they charge you and after departure you can no longer consume, you have to hand over the keys when checking out, they number the towels, the night show is pity, I do not recommend
