Stay at Azul Beach
Overall our stay at Azul Beach Resort was very good. Food is great, the beach is beautiful and the staff are friendly Beaches: basically exactly as advertised on the website. The water was a crystal turquoise and very warm. The beach is enclosed by a distant reef allowing for calm waters and a very relaxing experience. Coming in may, there was always plenty of seating available in the Cabanas, under umbrellas, and in cute little huts. Only problem was that both the Cabanas and huts had padded mattresses which were wet if it rained but the warm Jamaica air dried them quickly. Pools: crystal clear, always clean, and never crowded. Pool was a little on the cold side making it a bit difficult to take advantage of the swim up bars. Hot tub: only one at the resort but still was rarely full. Water was hot and clean Bars: Lots! They're everywhere. Basically one in eyesight at all times and they can make anything you want. They don't water down the liquor as much as some other places and the bartenders are friendly. Only complaint here was a bit of an uncomfortable experience. I'm not sure if it was playful, if they were in a relationship, etc. But one if the taller bartenders at the Amber bar regularly harassed the female bartenders (touching them in inappropriate places) and was clearly avoided by the female staff. Management should take notice. Many guests saw this behavior. Despite this all other bar experiences were excellent. Restaurants: overall all food was very good. The Italian restaurant wasn't anything to special but all other restaurants especially Ackee and Garfield's had outstanding food and service. Rooms: very clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable bathrooms were modern and being able to see the ocean and swim directly from your patio was nice. Not to mention swimming directly to the swim up bar ;) Only complaint here was that the ac in our room failed. Front desk staff quickly moved us to a new room but that experience is a story in itself that I'll get into later. Check-in: a mess. There are 2 lobbies and apparently we were dropped off at the wrong one. After a lot of confusion and staff members who avoided explaining the situation, we we're walked to the correct lobby (non-premium) where the check-in process was night and day better. Staff was attentive and happy to help. If you want a premium experience... Sadly don't book premium. Check-out: simple easy what you'd expect. Added bonus was a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit platter on our last night Concierge: professional and quick. Took care of our reservations professionally and easily Night front desk: I have this in a special category because the night staff might as well be a different group at the front desk. At around 8 pm our ac failed on our third night. The rooms are well insulated so it was not hot but it was getting humid fast. We figured shut it down got to dinner maybe it will fix itself. (no rush we're on vacation). After dinner no luck so we called the front desk who immediately dispatched maintenance and apologized, very professional. Maintenance showed up withing seconds and started work. After 2 hours still no luck so they said they needed to go to the roof to check the compressor. Again. No worries. 1130pm rolls around and they are still occasionally going in and out of the room. At this point we're tired so we decided to go to the lobby to talk the desk staff about a temporary room for the night. Not upset or anything just want to go to bed and let the staff work. The night front desk employee was rude and dismissive stating that there's no way that maintenance would work that late as if I was making up that they came in the first place. Finally he asked if we wanted to go to bed to which I responded Yes it's 1145 (by now I was a bit angry since I had approached calmly and with no intention to escalate but was treated as a hostile guest). He grabbed his manager who quickly resolved the issue and gave us a room to sleep and even offered to have a bell boy move our bags. Overall I think the hotel handled the situation well with the exception of the one front desk employee who was rude and dismissive. Overall: I would highly recommend the resort. The AC issue was likely a fluke and I doubt it would happen to another guest. The resort is beautiful and it was exactly what we hoped.
The reviews are great, the photos are fantastic, the amenities scream for you to visit.... But... This resort proves that Internet reviews, photos, and descriptions are often deceiving... Checkin... confusing Rooms (and about everything else)... tired Maids... excellent Outside and restaurant Service... bordering on bad. There are dozens of staff standing around, but they appear to be doing nothing. Most are friendly, if approached. Beach chairs/umbrellas... tired again, and incapable of shielding you from the constant/daily rain. Food... the reservation restaurants are pretty good. The rest, not so much. Plan to eat at peak time if you want fresh. Garfield’s for lunch was very good. Mahogany for breakfast was also good. Other notes. It is impossible to move around the resort without getting wet in the constant rain. The sidewalks are very narrow and make it difficult to walk the long resort as is often required. There is basically no store. And the few items they sell are VERY EXPENSIVE. Third floor balconies have no roof so they are often worthless. Not recommended, especially compared to other 41/2 star we have visited over the last 15-20 years.
We stayed for 2wks, in a room overlooking a swim up bar and with some view of the sea. Room - Room was good, maybe needed some little tweaks to make it perfect, little tiles missing from shower and the shower head needed descaling. New towels needed as the ones we were given were a little tired but they did the job. Was a little traffic noise but nothing major. Pools - these were fantastically clean and well kept, always someone serving at the swim up bars. Staff - they couldn't do enough to help you and were very friendly. Restaurants - We visited all of the ones with the hotel, my favourite was the oriental one! They were all good, sometimes the food went cold by the time you sat down, maybe because the plates were cold?? You need to book a couple of them but that was easy to do at the reception concierge. Beach - the beach was fantastic, clean and clear water, shallow for children to play in. There were plenty of loungers and we always found some no matter what time we came to the beach. There are people selling things but if you do not want to buy, then a simple no is ok. We found that if you chatted to them, they liked the interaction. They are trying to make a living and its rude to ignore them. Trips - We booked with the taxi service within the hotel, we were very lucky to get Cleon who was wonderful. We were able to tailor make our trips to the places we wanted to visit, we asked for Cleon for our other trips! We went to bamboo raft which was peaceful and lovely. YS falls which was much better than Dunns. Pelican bar is a place to say you have been! A visit to nine mile was spoilt by the awful guide and would only visit if you area die hard fan of Bob Marley. River trip was ok and a short visit to the glistening waters was good. Jamaica is a fabulous place to visit, don't be scared and stay at the hotel, visit the country!
We had a lovely 2 week break in May, all the restaurants are good, I don’t think the a la carte ones were that special, the mahogany was our favourite, great service in there, go to Garfield’s for lunch, fab bbq or gourmet burgers, you won’t go hungry. If you have been to a sensatori elsewhere you will find the Caribbean different, entertainment is very low key. We travelled in premium class on the plane & felt the extra comfort in a 9 hour flight worth it, also paid about £23 each for the lounge in Montego Bay on return which was brilliant. All the things we worried about from previous reviews were unfounded, we was quite close to the road but was never disturbed ( I’m a light sleeper) could book into all the a la carte restaurants no problem & there are plenty of sun beds for everyone, the people here really make the holiday they are so friendly 😊.
I waited awhile to write this review. We came here for our honeymoon in September. It was the low season so we had no issues with getting our rooms and making reservations at the restaurants. We did have a major issue with the staff. The majority of them were miserable and rude. Especially the women. This was my second time to Jamaica and it will be my last. The attitude we received in Negril has turned me off forever. I don't really like all inclusives to begin with. I booked this trip because I wanted to relax after all the wedding planning. This resort did not provide the honeymoon we were hoping for. Perhaps the staff was having a bad week. Perhaps they're just miserable all the time. I won't spend thousands of my hard earned dollars again to find out.
