Good accommodation close to everything.
We were part of a larger group in three rooms on different floors, and we all thought the hotel was perfect for our needs. The rooms were clean and tidy and well furnished. The bed was too soft for us, as we have found in American hotels but others may like it that way. It's an older hotel, but this was not a problem for us as it was clean. All of our rooms faced the sea, and although the direct view was blocked by other buildings (we were on the 23rd floor) we still had a good view of the surfers at the north end of Waikiki beach, as well as Diamond Head to the south. We never used the pool as it was in the shade most of the time, but why would you with a warm water beach a 5 min walk away? Room staff did a good job each day. There is an ABC (minimart) almost next door with food and booze. Parking was $25 per day, so we used Waikiki Banyan Parking over the road for $80/week. I would not hesitate to book here again if we ever return to Waikiki.
Upgraded room was a wonderful surprise!
My family stayed for 4 nights in a superior room. The first 2 nights in a standard Mountain View room. The next 2 nights in an upgraded ocean view room on the 35th floor. We were all very impressed with the beautiful view and more modern accommodations. The room was spacious and having the full size kitchen was a bonus. The staff was always very willing to accommodate our requests. I was a bit skeptical after reading previous reviews, but we were all delighted and pleased with our stay.
Disappointment from the start
Plenty of disappointment here: Pool change room facilities - very dirty showers and hand basins, hallway carpets old and stained, smell of dirty oven in room, lounge dirty and stained, fold out bed very old and sagging in middle. Large wet mark on carpet took two days for it to be fixed. Be careful of 'the amenities' fee.... this covers items normally included in the tariff or optional... daily newspaper / didn't want it, DVD hire, didn't want it, use of safe, wifi use, tea and coffee... never enough supplies for 3 people, couldn't find kettle and took 2 days for one to be delivered, not enough tea towels. Ok my fault for not checking but No on site restaurant facilities, no bar facilities, unable to have drinks around the pool. Tried to discuss these things with the hotel and met a brick wall.
Awesome place to stay
Wife and I flew in for our second trip to Honolulu and for the second time we stayed here. The place was even better then the first time. Spacious living room king size bed and full bathroom with an outstanding view on the 35th floor. Staff was wonderful an the price for parking was good. 5 minute walking distance to beach which we went to every single day the 8 days we stayed. ABC store close to hotel an the elevated seem to be fixed from the first time we stayed. Having a full kitchen was great as well. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
A central location – cosy / suited our needs
This hotel is in a good location. We had a great view out the window on the 20th floor of Diamond Head / and a glimpse of the beautiful beach. Only a short walk to the beach and main road (about 2 mins if that). Pink line bus route stop is just down the road (outside Ashton Beach Hotel), tour buses if no pick up from here are across the road at the Marriot (which has lights to cross). All in all a central location. There are lots of places to eat out at on the main road, we walked to the Cheesecake Factory & International Market Place. It’s a lovely, easy walk in the evenings. We walked around here all hours of the day and night. Yes, there are homeless about, but we felt safe among them. There is a lot of homeless, which surprised me at how many, but in saying that we did not come across many begging homeless. This hotel is in a safe location. The staff are all very helpful and friendly - from reception to housekeeping and the lovely young security guy. There is a minimart which is useful for those urgent purchases. Otherwise, ABC stores are everywhere or ig going to Ala Moana, Target has a great selection at good prices. We hired a car for a couple of days, and the parking charge of $25 per night is very reasonable. Has a small kitchen, and a decent sized fridge. We ate out each night, but this would be handily if you wanted to eat in. OK, so if you are looking for something modern and flash this place is not for you. It is tired and dated. The carpet is a bit yuk. However, it is roomy and was adequate for 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We just wanted a place to put our head down at night. It is clean and tidy. We had a 2-bedroom suite. One small room had the queen bed in it, the second room had 2 single beds, safe and TV (TV in here useless as no decent channels). The extra bed is the sofa bed. Pool is average, it is cold, shallow and smallish - but then again who needs a pool when a beautiful beach is metres away. TIPS: *There is an additional $25 a night charge, on the existing room rate. *Washing machine and drier is available at $1.50 each. *TV is terrible, nothing of interest at all. But they do provide free use of the DVD rental, so make use of it if you want to watch anything, this can only be used in the living area TV. *Use your feet and walk, walking is easy and pleasant. *Pink line bus leaves outside the Ashton Beach Hotel and is $2pp each way. We used to go to Ala Moana shopping centre & also Hard Rock café for dinner. This is double decker bus (not the trolley buses).
