Great location and service
We spent two days and booked an ocean view room with longboard club access. The view is excellent from our balcony and the King room was a nice size. The bathroom in single person only size but modern and clean. The Longboard club offers a very nice breakfast and afternoon food and drink service. It also provides indoor and outdoor seating near the pool area. This area and the pool are on the 5 th floor but are nicely landscaped and lots of comfortable seating. The beech is across the street and was very nice with a break water area for swimming and enjoying the water. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Great Hotel, over hyped
First of all this hotel is way too pricey for what it is, its good location, very cute inside but the rooms are by far the smallest I've ever seen. Very disappointed with the room, the view was good ,we had ocean view ( which is a partial view )we wanted to upgrade to ocean front but they were all booked for the time we stayed at (12/27-01/9), breakfast at Lychee was just sad, not the best buffet I've eaten. when we checked in the resort fee we had to pay and that was $670 so that was a surprise ( way too much) mind you our package cost us $8600 to stay here w/flights, they have this long board club package which i was at first interested before coming here but my Costco travel said it would be additional 4K, which i said no thanks, and after seeing what it is i'm glad we didn't get sunked in, i think it would've been waste of money for sure. the pools are not heated ( not sure why they claim it is) it was extremely cold for us, The marimoto asian restaurant is very good, we dined there twice. Pros: Location, cute inside the lobby, asian restaurant Cons: resort fees, small rooms, cold pool, over priced. Places a must to eat at while in Oahu : Herringbone, Basalt, Hula Grill, Marimoto Asian, Pf Changs, Tiki Grill, Deck.
For the $$$ you'll spend here, you can do better
Overall, this hotel left a negative impression on me, but I'll start with the positives. Positives: 1) Great location. 2) Once we were there, most of the staff were very friendly (even if not necessarily competent). 3) Nice lobby (cool aquarium in the lobby bar). Negatives: 1) Very small rooms with popcorn ceilings. 2) Sliding glass door to balcony rattled loudly for the entire week we were there from the wind. 3) Partial-ocean view required standing on the balcony with your head over the railing. 4) Not sure why the word "Resort" is used in the name. There are 2 small unheated swimming pools with a small hot tub between them. The hot tub was so crowded that there must be more skin cells in there than water. As far as I can tell that's all you get for your $50/day resort fee. I guess you get access to the gym too, but every hotel I've ever been to has a gym. 5) The gym is a separate business and not run by the hotel. I learned that this means the hotel will not do anything if there is something wrong with the gym. The equipment in the gym is very nice, but there are a number of minor issues (towels not always stocked, routinely out of wipes to clean equipment, etc.). The big issue I had with the gym was that we made a reservation for the tennis courts. We arrived to the gym at the time of our reservation and had to wait 40 minutes for somebody to show up to give us the code to get onto the courts. Then the person was totally unprofessional and unapologetic and then loudly talked to the other person working at the gym about my attitude. 6) We were a group of 9 people in 4 rooms. One of our rooms needed to have a day added at the beginning of the reservation. For some reason, we couldn't pay over the phone and we needed to fax (fax in 2020?!?!) in the credit card info. Well, the fax line was always busy so we couldn't fax it. So, we were told to call accounting. Accounting never answered their phones and didn't return any of our messages. Finally was able to talk to a manager who put a note in the reservation. Then when our family arrived from China, they were told they could stay the night (after they paid with cash) but that their reservation would be canceled the next morning without our credit card (we were arriving the next afternoon). It was a total disaster and totally unnecessary. Overall, you can do much better for your money. Unfortunately, we booked our trip very late and our choices were limited. This is definitely not a five-star resort, despite the five-start resort price tag. You can do better.
Great makeover - excellent service
We had never visited this hotel but it was recommended based on renovations completed in 2018. It is simply excellent all around. The rooms are nicely appointed and the pool deck is very clean and attractive. Hot tub was a big hit. But even more important for me was the complete gym. Rarely do you get a full bench let alone bench press, squat rack and full set of free weights. I was able to replicate my entire workout here. Club lounge featured different cheeses every night. Mmmm.... And the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. LOVED IT!
Beautiful but not the best service
The hotel is nice and in a great location. However, when we got there the girl who checked us in said they overbooked and our room type (king, partial ocean view) wasn't available. Instead of offering my girlfriend and I something better she said we would be given a room with two queen beds. I stared at her in disbelief after traveling 5,500 miles to get there. She then talked to a manager and offered us a "free upgrade" to an ocean view room with a king, instead of a partial ocean view. This room was all the way at the end of the hall away from the ocean. I'm not sure how much more "partial" it could get. Looking out from the bed was another hotel across the street - it's exactly what we paid for. I don't see how that's an upgrade, but maybe it is. Either way, that decision should have been made without trying to get us to downgrade after traveling all that way and paying all that money!!! That should be something that NEVER happens. Never. I'm still giving the hotel 3 stars - I want to click 2 but I'm too nice - because it's a great location, other staff were friendly and the gym was really nice.
