Excellent hotel experience
Great family hotel. Wonderful staff. The location is outstanding. Very good value. The only negative reviews noted a somewhat "dated" interior, which although true, in no way detracted from the many outstanding features of this hotel and their friendly staff, wonderful grounds and outstanding beach. A very short walk from the hotel along the beach to Whaler's Village for shopping and night life was a real treat.
Watch what wing they put you in.
Make sure you get the room you paid for, they'll try to put you in a lesser room. Not all wings have elevators, which is unacceptable for the price you pay. Lugging bags up and down three floors is not acceptable.
Watch your items you bring
If you bring your shampoos and soap Please watch to make sure cleaning People have not taken any of your usable items. After this experience I locked everything I brought with us in My hard case luggage every day.
Home away from home
Always a great stay here, I am a regular and love This hotel for its aloha spirit and consistency. It’s a bargain for all you get and the people are always kind and helpful. It’s not fancy but it feels like home. It’s special and I love the cultural activities and the location.
Great Hawaiian aspects but poor hotel
The best part of the hotel is that it is on the beach and it provides a mini Hawaiian show with singing and Hulu dancing at night. The staff was very nice and thoughtful. Everyone had a smile on their face and seemed to genuinely care about the guests. The problem I had was with our room. It was not what I was expecting when I booked. It is super aged and had bugs in the bathroom. They left a note about bugs if you had food in the room but that doesn't really excuse the problem. They mentioned ants but I had beetles and other types of bugs in the shower and sinks. The AC doesn't have a temperature setting, it's too old, it just had a bar you could move. I had it on as low as it could go, fan on max, and I still had to sleep with only a sheet on at night. We constantly couldn't connect to the wifi. It kept giving us connection errors when trying to enter our room code. Their instructions were to call Spectrum if you had wifi problems... Yes, we are supposed to call their provider and not the hotel for problems with their wifi. The only flights back to the mainland were overnight and didn't leave till late in the night. My wife was 7 months pregnant and so we inquired about late checkout. Any time after 11am costs $99 dollars. It doesn't matter if you want to stay an hour or till 6pm. No exceptions could be made. That really put a sour note on the end of the trip. Even an hour or two would have been helpful but that is their policy.
