Relatively nice atmosphere and staff.
it was overall a good experience staying here. My only concern was the frequency of the room cleaning and the quality of the food at the buffet restaurants. Otherwise I enjoyed the benefits the privilege club offers and the access to the whole property and especially the lounge area, very relaxing.
Worst resort experience
I’ve never been so anxious to write a review, due to my horrible experience I must share with all so you don’t go with high expectations like I did! During the time of reservation I had a room request since I was traveling with family (20+ ppl), I was told to contact the hotel closer to my arrival and remind them of my request, I called and was told to email my request, I emailed them 2x like directed and never received a response. At check in my request was not granted which was very upsetting. Eventually after checking in which took an 1hr because we went back and forth across the lobby because my check in area was in a disorganized room for loyalty members and they couldn’t find our packet. They were finally able to accommodate my request after begging and noting how important it was. On the way to our room, we walked through a hallway that reeked due to them having carpet and it was disgusting. When brought to the room I was furious of how how hot the room was and it did not resemble the pictures! I complained to front desk about the heat especially for my children (2yrs & 4mo) who slept uncomfortably every night of our stay, engineering didn’t care nor did front desk since I always had to follow up. The ceiling of my bathroom was also leaking and front desk also didn’t seem to care, especially after sharing that my daughter and I almost slipped from the puddle it caused. My balcony was super small couldn’t fit 3 ppl comfortably. The customer service here SUCKS! The employees and management here must have been random selections because they know NOTHING about hospitality. You have to request simple things more than 20x for them to try and make an effort on assisting. I made dinner reservations for their steakhouse through concierge, the concierge confirmed that my family and I would be able to dine together. The steakhouse told us different when we all arrived, the manager was super rude, disrespectful and unaccommodating to my family and I. We were told we could not all sit together due to limited staff or something like that. But guess what? They sat us close to Each other and had the same person serve both tables! When they could’ve just placed our tables together! Dumb if you ask me. I definitely will not return to this place, majority of the staff is rude, they’d rather communicate to one another and use their cell phones rather than help a guest which is what they’re supposed to do. Aside from the subpar service, the food is good, the pools, kids water park and entertainment was good.
Good but not 5 star
Just got back today from our holiday to this amazing part of the world and as a country from what we saw it is a really lovely place and don’t be afraid to book your excursions yourself. We saved quite a lot on some just by doing it ourselves through taxis and paying at the gate. Most taxi drivers are also more than willing to help out and try and get you better deals they also do not take you to anywhere that is dangerous. Room: Big rooms and air con in our room worked perfectly, shower was not very good in one of the three rooms we had but they fixed it within 24hrs so no complaint there. Hotel: clean and tidy always lots of people milling about keeping the place looking nice. Restaurants: Booked 3 of the 4 on the Grand side and food was ok in the steak house and not bad in the Italian but the highlight was the Japanese show table, food was amazing especially the main course cooked in front of you. Buffet was as expected with themed nights that seemed to have the same food most nights just with different sauces. Staff: Now this is interesting as there are some that were really happy but most seemed to think that you were just in the way and it was a pain to have to serve you, especially in the bars in the evenings. As I am English we as always wait our turn but it did seem like they would serve the Americans and Jamaicans first or they just pushed in but then they did tip more than us so I sort of see why we were relegated back behind them. Entertainment: if you love reggae blasting out 12 hours a day then you are in for a real treat. That’s pretty much all they played everyday and night. I had expected to hear this but in all other hotels we have stayed in all over the world the music is catered towards a mixture of local and various other types. I like reggae but all day every day was a little to much. Over all a good holiday but the hotel does need updating, on first arrival the hotel looks amazing but as you settle in over the two weeks you do start to notice the issues around the hotel. Also there is building works in the lobby and by the gym at the moment so we had air hammers going most days which was ok but as the lobby is the only place for free WiFi it was rather noisy if you wanted to FaceTime our grandchildren. One real issue we had was on the second beach party night we were watching the show and the entertainment team got some people up to play a game for a chance to win a holiday at the resort and to our amazement a Jamaican won it with quite a lot of coaching from the entertainment team. Now call me cynical but that all seemed a bit fixed to me. Would I go back, probably not but it was a great holiday overall.
Mosquitoes in room and Bad Customer Service
Let me start by saying this is the second time I stay at a Bahia Principe resort. First time was in Punta Cana and amazing. So when I saw they had one in Jamaica I trusted the name and went. Bad decision!! I’ve never written a bad review of any vacation I’ve gone to and I go on a lot of vacations. I’m so mad this time, that I’m still here and wanted to write a review already. I was very happy when I first walked in. Beautiful looking hotel. And when I saw my room, I loved it, especially the huge balcony. But then the mosquitoes started. I understand mosquitoes, I live in Florida but in this case it was out of control and inside our room. We spent the first night killing mosquitoes and woke up with bites everywhere. They offered to spray our room, which worked for a little and then the next day started again. I tried to get a room change and they were hesitant about it so I told them I’m willing to stay in the room if they spray it twice a day, that never happened! Next day I spent all day calling trying to get it sprayed for them to tell me at the end of the day they had run out of bug spray. So we finally requested a room change..with 3 nights left only. Room change seemed great at first. It happened quick and the room was clean and best of all no mosquitoes. But they only had enough space for me and my husband not for my girls. So they told me no worries, they will send up two beds. I stopped by the lobby on my way to dinner to ask about the beds and their response “they’re up there now delivering your beds”. Great, had dinner, went to a show, had a great night. Get back to our room and no beds! Called over and over again and when they would pick up they would give me some excuse, other times they would not pick up or would hang up before I can talk. At this point it’s 11pm, my girls are falling asleep and no beds still. This has been the common customer service all week. No one cares. They’re always running out of stuff and any request you make takes forever to make it happen. We asked for band aids one of the days and they had “run out”. They made us go to a store to buy at 50 cents for ONE band aid! I strongly suggest you don’t stay here. We have spent too much time frustrated at a time that we should be relaxing and having a good time.
Having just got back from a 2 week break at runaway bay got to say I’m not disappointed with any of it. On arrival at the hotel checking in was easy and taken up to room very impressed with the size and all you will need being in there including a mini bar which is kept well stocked. The restaurants are all first class and can’t say I actually had any meal which was disappointing and the japenies being the best .The swimming pools are very clean well maintained the beach is paradise. The bars are the only grip the drinks being served in plastic glasses which killed the beer and decided to buy a cool flask which was a rip off so take your own with you and the staff seem to need tipping so your not kept waiting to be served .A must do is a trip to Dunn’s river waterfalls and Bob Marley tour which I found to be very interesting and worth every penny as to evening entertainment it’s a bit all over the place and finished to early and ended up having early nights all the holiday
