Not allowed in the Restaurant
Tonight I was denied service at the Italian restaurant on the resort because I was not wearing pants. I’m wearing a pair of pressed designer shorts, button down shirt and a pair of boat shoes. I’m not wearing cargo shorts or flip flops. I’m in my 40’s and attempting to have a romantic dinner with my wife. This is the worst policy I’ve ever seen upheld at a resort. It’s an all inclusive. There were people in the restaurant in jeans and t-shirts, but I can’t go in because I have shorts on. Beyond furious!!!! Worst service ever!!!!!!
Pros: basic room very modern/clean, food choices above average, good location for excursions (Cobá) to various ruins, friendly staff that works very hard, decent entertainment, grounds were beautiful, neat assortment of wildlife around grounds (non-threatening) Cons: attended presentation to offset cost of an excursion for vacation club which took much longer than promised and the three person approach (read car dealership experience) was NOT something worthwhile. Bad start to a vacation. Seaweed problem is awful. They work hard to remove but this isn’t a swimming beach and smell like sewage treatment plant while removing ( no smells during day/eve). Waited to be seated for over an hour last night when only #2 on list. They seated a party of three dozen over three chained tables (poor flow management). Overall... I would not return to stay here by choice. However, I would not complain if had to stay due to attending destination wedding, etc. May consider if great price compared to elsewhere. Tip: They are closing Temple to climbing next year forever (neat experience) so one should go if on their bucket list.
Amazing entertainment staff!
Ricky,Andrea,Gigi,Victor and Aranza were the best entertainment staff. I don’t know how they do it keeping their energy so high. They were all ways around if you wanted to talk to them and I know my mum and dad enjoyed talking to them. Overall the resort was amazing and staff were around when you need them. If I had the chance I would definitely go back again!
A wonderful experience
My children asked to return to this resort before we even left. We arrived 2 days before our original reservation. After a shaky start (due to a mistake at the last resort, not Dreams Tulum), the people who work at this resort worked tirelessly to make sure we had an amazing trip; specifically, Luis Gonzalez in the UVC, Mario Juarez the concierge butler at the Preferred Club Beach, Restaurant managers Raul Balam and Rafael Pat, Claudia Xool the hostess, and Uriel and Talicia in the Preferred Club. All of these people were never endingly nice and accommodating; they went above and beyond at every turn to make sure everything was amazing at every turn. Our initial room was nice, clean and modern. Our second room was authentic and gorgeous. The preferred club beach was kept clean, the beds, chairs and palapas constantly serviced with a smile and super comfortable. We snorkeled, swam, walked to a cenote, explored and enjoyed everyone and everything. The pools were easy to find a seat at, kept clean, and provided a great place to take a dip. The food and service at the restaurants was exceptional. The resort was well laid out, with stunning grounds and views, and it was fun to wander around in the gardens and between the buildings. There was a great mix of activities for both kids and adults to the point that we were all tired at the end of the day but looking forward to the next. The kids club was clean, nice and fun. The one issue we had while we were there were the towels. We never seemed to get fresh towels and getting new ones took a while. Although the resort appears to be one of the older ones, the feelings you get from the people there and the experience made it one of our favorites.
Overall enjoyable holiday, but would not visit again
We vacationed at Dreams Tulum from August 3rd to August 10th. My husband and I are relatively new UVC members. This resort is nice, though not nearly as nice as our home resort (Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay, Jamaica). The beach is nice but was plagued with seaweed and the water is full of large rocks which makes it difficult to navigate. The good: • The fire show was terrific. • Edgar at Porto Via restaurant was very entertaining and made us laugh. • Daniel at the World Café was very helpful to us in dealing with our daughter’s allergy. He walked us through the buffet to identify what was safe/not and he offered to have the kitchen make items on request for our daughter. • (Super) Mario, the concierge at the Preferred Beach provided excellent service with a smile. • Andrea from the entertainment team is wonderful. The not so good: • We had a swim out room. There were no beach towels when we arrived. We had to call down to get them delivered. • The room was not prepared with towels, robes, slippers, glasses etc. for all four us when we arrived. Every day the cleaning staff would remove towels/robes (even if we left them hanging to indicate we didn’t need them laundered) and they would not replace the towels, so we had to call down to get new items delivered. The cleaning staff removed glasses but didn’t replace them. We had to call down to get them delivered. • Halfway through the week the operator started referring to us by another family’s name. Not ok, especially when you are a member and a preferred guest. • The food was not nearly as good as at Secrets. Overall we had an enjoyable holiday, but I would not visit this particular resort again.
