    Great experience!

This was a beautiful resort and all of the employees went above and beyond to make it a great vacation! This was a family vacation with 2 young kids and everyone was so great with them! If we go back to the DR, I would stay here again.

    Great value for the price

Rooms and common areas were clean, decent selection of food & alcohol, and several activities through the day to keep kids and people occupied in the resort. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very family friendly.

    Honeymoon in heaven

Prior to our visit we read many reviews about Iberostar Dominicana All Inclusive Resort. But all of those reviews left a lot of unanswered questions and lacked details I believe most travelers would want to know. So I’m going to try to touch on everything I can about this wonderful vacation get away. Upon our arrival we were greeted by or concierge Allen. He asked if this was our first time visiting the resort. I said, “No,this was my second time visiting.”, he said, “Welcome back family!”, and hugged me with a hug that made me feel as if he actually missed me. He also hugged my beautiful new wife and welcomed her to Iberostar Resorts. He assisted us with checking in and invited us to his desk where he helped us make all of our dinner reservations for the week. He also explained how to access the WiFi . Here’s the deal folks, the WiFi is free, pretty fast and doesn’t require a password to use. Simply search available networks and select Iberostar. You can then use Youtube and Netflix just like back home. Because the network is unsecured I wouldn’t advise shopping online or WebBanking. Visitor Tip #1: Upon check in request a DO NOT DISTURB sign because they’re not always in the room and your grab your Towel Cards that will be needed to get a towel at the pool. The impeccable grounds of this Iberostar Resort are huge, so to save us a long walk to our room Allen had us driven to our building in a large golf cart equipped with luggage racks. This was very nice because in June the Dominican Republic is hot !!!We took the elevator to the top floor and were at our room. Let’s discuss the room. Our Travel Agent advised Iberostar we we’re visiting because we were on honeymoon. The Travel Agent said typically the resort will try to do little things to make it special when they’re aware you’re on honeymoon. With this being said, I’d say initially they failed, big time!!! The room showed evident signs of aging such as light fixtures dangling from the ceiling and to make matters worse the tub was dirty (I.E. soap scum, hair and chipped enamel *see attached photos). The air conditioning in the room was basically non existent. My wife and I did not request a room change because we were to tired from traveling to walk across the resort to the check in desk. So we saved our complaints for the following day. I desperately needed a shower the next morning because I was sweating all night due to the weak AC system. So I rinsed off in our filthy shower to get some relief. Upon exiting the shower I noticed a clear shiny object roughly one inch from where I placed my foot down to dry off. After closer examination I discovered that the shiny clear object was a large shard of broken glass ( *see photo, glass shard is circled in red). It was a miracle I didn’t step on it! I don’t know how I didn’t step on it the night before when I showered before bed. Had either me or my wife stepped on that glass the honeymoon would have been over! Actual drinking glasses are in all the bathrooms to hold the provided bottled drinking water you’ll need for brushing your teeth etc.,because you can’t drink the tap water. I’m assuming the previous guest broke the drinking glass and house keeping failed to clean it up... like the hair in our tub. Visitor Tip #2: Pack a small travel fan in your luggage and first aid kit. You’ll be happy to know all electrical plugs from the United States are compatible with the outlets in the rooms at Iberostar Resorts (*See photos) After having breakfast we met with Allen and I expressed my disappointment with our room and the safety issue regarding the broken glass. I showed him the photos and he offered to switch our room...at 3:00pm. I don’t wear a watch on vacation and I didn’t feel like returning later in the day. My biggest issue second to the broken glass was the AC not working well. My wife informed me that this was the biggest complaint on this website about the resort, so switching rooms probably wouldn’t resolve this particular issue. So we stayed in our original room. Allen used my issues with the room to pitch the Iberostar Club Membership. He said if we attended a special breakfast we could learn how to join the club so we could get the top amenities and better rates on future trips. Basically saying because we used a Travel Agent and weren’t club members that was the reason our room was awful. Thankfully before attending this breakfast I did some research and learned its a SCAM! Don’t waste 2 hours of your vacation attending. The 25 minute massage they give you for sitting through their B.S. breakfast can’t be worth it. Iberostar did eventually redeem themselves. Allen must have spoken to the cleaning staff after I met with him because they did improve with cleaning of our room going forward( *see attached photos of some of the beautiful flower work our maid did through the week). So how does a Resort with the room complaints I had get a rating of 4. Here’s how, Iberostar does everything else to the highest level. The grounds were perfectly manicured and beautiful! The food was fresh and delicious! The drinks were refreshing! There was fresh water dispensers in all of the bars and restaurants. The dispenser must have filters that make the water safe to drink because you can’t drink from any of the sink faucets without getting sick. The staff was helpful and friendly. The pools were the cleanest I’ve ever seen anywhere! The fact is you don’t spend a lot of time in your room anyway with so much to do at this resort, so I can’t let the room issues impact my overall review. I will return again, hopefully soon. I hope everyone who reads this benefits. Safe travels and happy trails! - Joe

Iberostar Dominicana my new happy place

My husband, my three children and I travelled to the Iberostar Dominicana at the end of May, and I have to say it wasnt without hesitation after seeing some of the reviews on here. My fears were further exacerbated as I was bringing my son who has severe food allergies. However what we discovered in the Iberostar Dominicana was nothing short of paradise. It was an ideal place for our needs. Rooms We had a family room, and although there were 5 of us in there, it was spacious enough to not get under each others feet. Our refrigerator was restocked everyday with beers, coke and I was thrilled that it also included coke zero. My only criticism was that the quality in housekeeping deteriorated towards the latter end of our stay, with the bathroom not cleaned and dirty face cloths left, but it did not at all affect our love for the place. Pool Obviously it has been well documented that there were issues with the pool, and we were fortunate as we arrived the week it had reopened. However, there was still building works going on surrounding the pool, and yes it was a tad noisy but the noise from the kids playing or music around the pool drowned that out so it was not a problem. There were a few problems with the filtration on the pool during our stay but the staff worked tirelessly to fix it. It was a beautiful pool, and my children spent most of their holiday in there. Beach What can I say other than WOW, it is amazing. I'm not one for swimming in the sea, but the waters are crystal clear and I shocked myself by actually going in every day. There is issues with seaweed as mentioned in other reviews but you can avoid it due to the clarity of the water. Food The complex has many many restaurants, and the resort caters for that many different nationalities that pleasing everyone would be near to impossible. We out of choice only ate at one speciality restaurant and that was the steakhouse, the rib eye was very very tasty, my husband and my son chose the sirloin and didn't enjoy it quite as much. But, due to my sons allergies, and the fact that eating in restaurants with 3 children under 10 is in no way relaxing we opted for the buffets. And we were never spoilt for choice, and my son was able to eat safely with advice from the chef over what was safe (although he did stick to chips/fries and meats). But it was unanimous that our favourite buffet was the lunchtime one by the pool, so much choice from seafood to pizzas, burgers and hotdogs. And the chefs outside cooking paella, or stews or just bbq meats and veg. And the kids favourite was the ice cream. Drinks Drinky drinky lady around the pool, I'd love to see her step count as she never never stopped. My husband and I are not cocktail drinkers as such, so we stuck to what we knew later and wine. But the children did enjoy the alcohol free cocktails. There is of course a drinks menu and it is extensive. Entertainment There are shows every evening, however I'd like to offer some constructive feedback here that these need to be advertised more extensively, perhaps outside the restaurants as we had no idea what was on. And on the two occasions that we did know it was because members of the entertainment team had approached us by the pool. Kids Club My children were so excited to attend the kids club, however their first experience didn't go down so well as they were the only English speaking g kids, and I think the staff that day struggled with that with my daughter (who is very placid and friendly) stating she had been shouted at. HOWEVER, and that is a big however they did go back and it was different staff and they absolutely loved it, I cannot fault them at all. Even completing a full days activities to raise awareness for World Oceans Day. They also were involved in a few shows, and enjoyed a slumber party. After a rocky start with the kids club my kids were upset to leave. Staff One of my concerns when reading through the reviews prior to our visit was were people had spoken about rude staff. I have to say I never encountered any rudeness at all from any staff. I said hola to everyone I met including the builders/gardeners/maintenance staff and I was always greeted pleasantly by them back. My only gripe was that some of the entertainments team would ask if we spoke spanish when we replied no they'd smile and walk away. But that's as much about my own abilities as theres as my Spanish doesn't stretch further than hello, goodbye and please. I do have to single out one member of staff for his excellence during our stay and that is Anthony the concierge, he was so helpful when discussing my sons allergies and signposting us to the correct persons. Then our departure bus didn't arrive when it was expected and he called the company and sorted it for us, this guy definitely deserves a promotion. I always think the measure if a good holiday is whether you'd return. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy some amazing holidays at some amazing resorts, however this is the first time I've been sat on a sun lounger trying g to book my next stay. Yes, the Iberostar is not everyone's cup of tea, but its certainly my families.

    Disappointing

I will start by saying we are currently at the Iberostar Dominicana, and we are traveling with our adult children... my husband and I visit the Dominican twice a year, once with our kids and once without... this our first time at the Iberostar. Overall the resort is very nice but very dated... I will give a huge kudos to Ray who has taken wonderful care of us at breakfast and dinner in the buffet. Here is one of my biggest problems currently, they have a towel system where you turn one in and get a new one or a card for the next day... it’s annoying but tolerable, what is NOT acceptable is that I just went to trade in 4 of our 5 towels and the kid in the towel hut called me a liar and embarrassed me in front of other guests saying I only had 2 not 4... I had to argue with him to get the other 2 because you are liable for them upon checkout... he did the same to my husband yesterday... sad to say this might be a deal breaker for us... we will not pay good money to be insulted... shame on corporate... penny wise dollar foolish, all over a towel. We are only on our 3rd day so hopefully things will get better... I’ll update after the trip.
