    Best Holiday in Paradise!

    I recently returned from a fantastic week's holiday at Iberostar Dominicana with my three sisters. From 10 October to 17 October 2019. We experienced a friendly and professional welcome by the Staff on arrival and many special restaurants were booked for us instantly. Our luggage was seamlessly transferred to our Rooms; which were comfortable and fairly spacious. ( We had an electrical problem but this was quickly resolved by the Engineer on hand.) We were impressed by the friendly staff in the Dining Room on the first night and the Food was varied and tasty. The following day we looked round the beautiful facilities including the Pools , Bars and stunning beaches shared by both Hotels. Paradise! We met the very professional and talented Entertainment Team who made us feel very welcome and we joined the Party there and then! All the team involved all the Tourists interested in doing Activities. We joined in with the Dance Competition, the Beer Festival, Foam Party in the Pool, Beach night etc Such a great variety of Fun Activities... and some fantastic shows in the evening with Professional Dancers involved and some very elaborate choreography! We danced nightly before and after Dinner and then carried onto the very good Disco on the Premises till it closed some nights.. We would like to mention some very special people who made our holiday so special including Joni at the Bar by the Stage, the Entertainment Team including Panther, Eveline, Kool, Junior, Candy & some of the Professional Dancers we met and the very helpful Staff in Reception & the Dining Rooms, Staff at Pool Area and the lovely jolly Ladies that clean the Rooms! We had a brilliant time and we will be back!!

    Unforgettable stay - not in a good way

    We checked into Iberostar Dominicana on October 8th for a week. The grounds of this hotel is beautiful, well manicured lawns, beautiful flowers and fruit trees. Unfortunately that was where the love story ended. From the get go there were issues with the infrastructure which severely impacted our stay and our experience. We were a party of eleven staying in six hotel rooms. Each room experienced similar issues. My husband and I arrived in the night. The initial trip to our first room was partly in darkness as there was no lighting on a section of the floor. We reported it to the front desk and it was corrected. That was about the only thing corrected during the stay. There were severe plumbing issues. With every shower we experienced water backing up in the dated tubs. Water was a luxury that we did not always have. From temperature to pressure we experienced issues. One day we had to shower in absolutely cold water, there was no hot water coming through the taps. At another time we were bathing with drips of water, the water actually cut off while we were taking showers. Calls to the front desk went to deaf ears as there were no results, no one came to look or try to repair any of the water issues. The irony of this was, there was water running aplenty on the lawns every day. Water from the sink was falling under the sink to the ground. The sink was backing up and water was just oozing to the ground. We had to ensure our feet were in a wide stance so as not to get wet. The towels in the room have seen better years and at this point should have been retired. The texture of the floor towel should not be the same texture as the bath towel. Just saying. In one of the rooms we were sharing irons. A call was made to the front desk to let them know. Forty five minutes later - nothing. Crickets! In order to not keep the others waiting we were sharing an iron between two rooms. Our concerns were brought to the attention of the site manager, who apologized profusely. (We only got to meet her after the second day of complaining). Her resolution was to offer services, like spa and golf trips. While that was a good gesture, we were still going back to the same rooms with the same problems. She also had the audacity to ask us to sign away our right to complain if we accepted those services. We immediately refused. Katherine (site manager) presented us with the options of different rooms, which were a bit of an upgrade from the previous rooms. They looked better, over looked the beach, but it was the same old problems in the new rooms. A couple of times I went back to my room unexpectedly only to be startled by a technician sitting on the night table in the room trying to fix a phone that I did not call about, nor was I using. We were not advised that techs were going to be in the room. They were concerned about fixing a phone, but everyone was staying far away from the plumbing issues. Talk about screwed up priorities. This hotel has/had a lot of potential, but time has not been kind to it. Focus appears to be getting customers in. The infrastructure however will have the opposite effect. I cannot say I will be a returning customer. Dominicana needs to do what their sister hotel the Bavaro Hotel is doing, which is close the hotel down and do a full repair to the building. Spanish is the DR’s first language. I get and fully accept that, but I also feel that the people working in the hotel should have basic knowledge of English. I would not recommend staying here, but if you are, I suggest you get comfortable with charades as this is how you have to communicate at times. We had the opportunity to get reservations at the seafood restaurant. Don’t waste your time. It is beneath basic. I ordered the shrimp dish with sugar cane rum sauce. And that is exactly what I got 8 shrimps and some sauce. No sides, no rice, no veggies. Only the 8 shrimps. The salmon came with a dollop of mashed potato. We ended up having to go back to the buffet to have an actual dinner. The food in the buffet was basic at best, but way better than the so called speciality seafood restaurant. All was not lost, there were a couple of outstanding people who worked in the buffet and the prestige area on the beach. Margarito in the dining room is a consummate professional and provided outstanding service to our group of 11 every day at breakfast and dinner. We commend his amazing service. We also received excellent service from Alexander, Randi and Jose at the beach. The beach was amazing. If there was a way we could pitch a tent; we would have stayed on the beach for the entire stay. The pools at this resort are also very good. We purchased a tour from the hotel to Saona Island. Much ado about nothing. The beach was good. Nice calm waters. The natural pool was also amazing. Food was included in our tour package. Unfortunately the food was not good. Pasta that should have been cold was served at island temperature. We were warned by one of our group members not to eat it, unfortunately one of our members ate before the warning. He was ill from that night and is now under medical care. We made the best of our vacation and had fun. The only reason we chose this hotel was due to a few people from the group having a membership with them. We wanted to be together as a group; however the experience at the hotel was not a good one. Iberostar you can do better than that. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful island that I would recommend to anyone. Based on my experience at this hotel I cannot recommend the Iberostar Dominicana Hotel to anyone else. When you pay your hard earned money to go on a much needed vacation, you should expect value for your money. We didn’t get that here unfortunately.

    Horrible Experience

    Booked this hotel with family and friends and visited from October 8th to October 15th 2019. Booked double panoramic rooms and on arrival were told we were upgraded to junior suites. There were 11 of us visiting in the group and 6 of which were members\beneficiaries of the Iberostar club, Three of our "junior suites" were located in on the 3rd floor and were quite dated and run down. I occupied room 6312 which there were several infrastructural issues such as water backing up around your ankles when having a shower. When this was reported to the front desk, they almost acted as if this was a new or never reported problem. Only to realize that this problem was occurring in several other rooms. Towel racks were loose and not secured properly to the counter and there were tiles lifting from the walls close to ceiling. Also, the robes that were supposed to be an amenity provided to members were overused, rough and washed out. The towels too were weathered and rough feeling. Not to mention the rotted fruit in the fruit platter that were part of the welcome package for returning members. ( I have many pictures of all I have described to prove my claim). During my second shower, this issues were still not dealt with and the problem only got worst. Well they sent a replacement fruit platter which in my opinion could never compensate for the issues being experienced with the drainage problem. Again the front desk was made aware and by this time the problems in the rooms continued to get even worst. Not just for my room but others in our group as well. By this time, the water pressure was either low or didn't flow at all. We then met with the management at the prestige lounge. This is certainly not what the Iberostar experience promised. The meeting was escalated to three of the hotel's hierarchy and we were able to voice our concerns about the various structural issues that NO patron should have to deal with whilst on vacation. Especially when there are SO many negative publicity plaguing the Dominican Republic. After much discussion , the manager Christine moved us to other rooms,but the problems just didn't stop. Water pressure continued to be a major issue in that in the middle of having a shower the water would just stop. One member of the group was informed by the front desk that "there is a shower located close to the lobby and you can come down and have a shower". Unacceptable! We were moved from Room 6312 to room 5248. The room was a little bit of an "upgrade" but just couldn't wait for this nightmare to be over with. There were roaches in room 5246; Another member of our group was located in Room 5247. The sink in this room was leaking water onto the floor for the entire duration of the trip. And how could one not notice the huge rodent who made a grand appearance in the lobby area one evening. We were only able to book the sea food restaurant as much of our time was spent attempting to sort through the issues we were having with our rooms etc. The food at the sea food restaurant was a bust. 8 shrimp on a huge platter was served as the main course and everything else was lack luster. The staff seemed quite uninterested in making this an enjoyable experience for not just our group but for others at the restaurant as well. We left and went to the buffet where there was a wider variety of food. Positives for this resort was the staff. Staff work extremely hard to keep the grounds clean. Margarito our waiter in the buffet attended to us and ensured our table was ready once we arranged our dinner time with him beforehand. Randy and Jose in the prestige area on the beach were pleasant and ensured we were taken care of when ever we were at the prestige area. Jonathan in the prestige lounge was also very helpful. And unforgettable trip in the most negative of ways. Sad to say, this is not the vacation experience we were hoping for

    Enjoyable experience with family!

    First time at this resort and I must say we all had an enjoyable stay. Check in was quick. The building is 4 story with an elevator and stairs nicely lit. Rooms - We had the standard room facing the garden area which was good enough for us. Very clean and comfortable but a little out dated. The air con worked well but was noisy. Mini bar was stocked with 2 beers, Coca Cola products and 4 bottled waters. You have towels, ironing board and safety box included. Wifi was spotty in the room area. Food - The buffet was very good with a lot of variety and choice. My only issue would be that the food was not hot enough as it was sitting out and tend to be cold. Also the flies and birds flying into then dining area. They should put some netting up like the Iberostar in Mexico so the birds don’t fly at you. The a la carts was okay but the buffet offered more. Beach - Very well taken care of with plenty is sun loungers available. You can stroll in by 11am and still get a seat. Washrooms at the beach were very clean and maintained. Pool area - Very clean and plenty of sun loungers. No swim up bar but a small bar pool side and inside the beach buffet area. Grounds - Extremely well taken care of. Entertainment - They have a casino by the front desk area and a couple of small stores to buy gifts, cigars, rum and Larimar. Entertainment staff always worked hard to ensure you have a great time. All the shows tend to start at 9:30pm. Bring your mosquito spray at night as you get bitten sitting there. Staff - Very helpful and nice. Excellent service at the bar, lobby and buffet. Staff mainly spoke Spanish and understood little English which was good enough. Cons - Only annoying thing was promoters/time share people that try to get you to go to their meetings and sell “VIP Club members” or “Resort Credits”. So just be aware and say “NO”. If you purchased an all-inclusive package, you don’t need to spend more money or waste time listening to scammers. Overall, a wonderful resort for family and friends to stay at. Not too large to walk around.

    Nice

    Arrived and greeted and given a map and went to our room with the bell boy Room was very clean, however fixture and fittings in the bathroom hanging off, looking very dated and needs a face lift,mini bar was full of water, soft drinks and a couple of beers a nice touch. Pool area was always clean but a few holes in the tiles around the pool area. Plenty of sun loungers available although a lot of people were placing towels on them from early in the day and not returning to them until late afternoon if returning at all. Food was nice plenty of choice sometimes cold though, waiters/waitresses were very helpful and always willing to help, The themed restaurants have to be booked and is a dress code for the French restaurant, the only one we really enjoyed was the American one. The Fish restaurant was awful very unprofessional and unorganised and not exactly a “fish” restaurant only salmon and shrimp offered but still nice food! The entertainment was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I have to mention how lovely Mr Kool was, he was so polite and every day made a real effort to talk to us and even persuaded us to play bingo. The one negative thing I would say is they do try and get you to go to a meeting about the “VIP club” they offer with the chance of cheap return holidays and flights with iberostar, but we stood our ground and never went as we had searched prior and knew what it was, they say it’s an hour and half but a couple did go and were there for 5 hours, so just be aware they do try and push this as they get about $40 for you going.
