They must do better
I stayed at this resort 7 nights and my room was covered in ants and bugs that I have never seen before. They were in my bed, floor and walls. The rooms are not throughly cleaned as there was dust covering the floors and furniture fixtures. Also you have to maneuver around the hotel on vans and these little golf type carts. The drivers drive them extremely reckless and in fact someone fell out of one the week I was there. They need to drive with caution since the street is very steep and one could fall out. My other complaint is they ran out of things such as fries, alcohol, ketchup, etc. This is suppose to be a 5 star resort and it’s not quite there yet. There steak house was decent but even that presented issues with meat not being cooked throughly. Overall I was most happiest outside of my dusty bug infested room. Also the people, ,that work there try and sale you things and I had signed up and change my mind. Victor became extremely angry and ripped up the paper in my face and stormed off. I want to add that people are entitled to change their mind and shouldn’t feel ashamed of doing so. I won’t return to this hotel again in the future. The food is hit and miss and the workers aren’t happy workers, they seem to be there collecting a check. Also if you want food in your room via room service, they will let you know that the wait is 2 to 3 hours which seems quite stupid. There is many other things but I summed up how I feel and I wasn’t impressed at all.
Star class was amazing....I would definitely upgrade to star class if you plan on going to planet Hollywood. Your check-in is quicker, you get a PRIVATE Butler and you get red carpet service. Speaking of butlers, our Butler, Pablo was amazing. He took care of everything we needed the whole time without hesitation or delay. Plenty of workout classes, the gym was amazing.Food was good...not great...lots of variety. During rainy season there was still plenty of sunny times to enjoy. Some improvement....after the rain the floors get slippery. The $500 resort credits are basically useless. We never used one. This resort is about making money. Although it was all inclusive, the still had monetary upgrades for steak, red bull, fiji water or a simple Corona.
There was a group of us, 16 people, and we stayed a week at Planet Hollywood. We all had read reviews before going, good and bad. We had a great experience. Omar was our host for the week and he scheduled dinners , outings etc. He was wonderful!! If something wasnt right, he fixed it. He checked on us daily. We had 2 people with birthdays that week and he went out and bought balloons for our table on our last dinner and made it so fun. All the waiters and staff we encountered were absolutely amazing. Kevin is our favorite bartender, ask for him if you go! we would definitely go back!
free wifi, smoking areas assigned, thank you PH
First time my (teen) kids and I traveled to Costa Rica. It is a lot quieter than Cuba, DR,Mexico, Jamaica. It was a nice change. No one is bothering you to purchase things except for the concierge at your building, upon arrival. They will try to get you to attend a meeting(something like Time Share) and award you a free massage for your trouble. I opted out. Upon arriving at the hotel you get the "red carpet" treatment as if you were in Hollywood, greeted by staff who offer a towelette and a great purple refreshment and a welcome cheer/clap before you stop to take a picture in front of the PH wall. You will have to use the golf carts or vans a few times per day to get to and from lobby, breakfast, restaurants, pool, beach. The incline is staggering. Spa was just the most reinvigorating experience. Pools are great. No big struggles to get a drink at any of the bars or an umbrella over your chairs. Food is very good. Italian, Mexican, Steakhouse and Teppanyaki were all very good, better than mosts 5 star resorts I have been to. The Overtime Sports bar food was edible but overkill on fried options. Rooms were absolutely well appointed and well thought out. Room service is above average service. Do NOT get a room on the ground floor unless you do not mind insects in your room/shower. All rooms have a very good view of the ocean except ground floor rooms. No need to get up extra early for towels by the pool. They never ran out AND they really do take them away(occasionally) if they notice that the towels are used to save a chair. Entertainment team is really nice but never in your face in an annoying way. Geronimo, the head of entertainment team is nice, not overly pompous but I think this hotel needs a stronger person for that position. The evening entertainment was different....no cheesy Michael Jackson shows which I actually always enjoyed. 5/7 shows was very good, for all ages and walks of life and inclusive. Few shows were not great. Guys burger joint was just great for lunch. There was a bbq buffet everyday by the pool. The breakfast buffet had 3 omelette stations!!!! The cleaning ladies were virtually unnoticeable. Turn down service was not consistent(oh well). Excursions are amazing. If you book on your flight on your way down, they are cheaper and in CDN dollars. At the resort, they are in US dollars. If you're planning on ordering bottles, you can do so on the way down as well, again CDN dollars and they will be given to you about an hour from arrival on your return flight. We enjoyed this trip immensely. There was no pressure from anyone(except that one time from our concierge, upon arrival). Everything is very low key. No need to make reservations at any restaurant except the teppanyaki. Just note that the STAR guests get priority for all the 7:30 spots at every restaurant. Also, the dress code for the restaurants was much more relaxed than any other 5 star resort that I have ever been to, despite the write up in the hotel pamphlets. We loved the free wifi everywhere. Kayaking, free activity, so so peaceful and never a problem getting a kayak. Beach is exactly what you have heard, dark sand, but SOFT sand. Water is so comfortable and relaxing. We saw 6 monkeys in the trees one day only, down by the beach, few more on our ziplining excursion. A lot of families were at this resort.Pool games were unique an d not always geared toward the same age groups. The kids club looked amazing. No real disco for the 20/30 year olds, just a sports bar with karaoke and pool tables. At times we could hear our neighbours while getting ready in the bathroom area. Not a big deal. Not much to watch on TV so stay at the pool longer. Pool closes at 7pm as it gets dark at about 6pm. Mosquitos are not a huge problem but you might find your self scratching now and then. The weather was ok. Yes it did rain a few times, mainly overnight, but once or twice while we were at the pool....just wait it out, it's not for long.. It was overcast most of the week with the exception of 2 very sunny days. This did not bother us. Cabanas were very popular $169 for upto 6 pple. Gift shop is closed for a few hours here and there. There is a smoking area by the gift shop and one outside the lobby. THANK YOU PH.....i hate smoke.
Loved Planet Hollywood stay. We stayed for 4 nights and 5 days. - Daily activities - Foam pool party was a blast, Oscar night was nice, 80’s party was different and there was always something going on which is a plus - Spa: Our spa experience was very relaxing, reasonably priced and the spa was clean and serene. Staff was great. - Gym: We took classes with Carlota as much as we could. She has great positive energy and taught the yoga, Pilates and core flow classes. She worked parts on me that I didn’t know needed :) and each class was in a different location. The best was the set up under the trees with the breeze and facing the ocean. Water fitness with Jorge was great and fun too. The Pump Fitness team is super engaging. - Room: Ana cleaned our rooms daily. She was sweet and very thorough. No moist smell or feel in rooms. Very clean. Shower was amazing!! - Food: Only Ok... felt that sometimes it was overcooked or pre-cooked and heated up later. I like fresh food. Best experience was Hibachi with Kevin as chef and Guy’s burger joint.
