I booked through
Vrbo and truly enjoyed our stay. Every part of Kona Reef was Ideal. No complaints at all, 10 day stay perfect vacation condo rental. I still question the before you leave clean up list. Strip sheets off bed? Put all used towels near washer? Rinse dishes and put in dishwasher? Extreme list do to the fact, one does pay a cleaning fee. Other then that question, this is a perfect spot on the Kona side.
Kona reef Condo F1 - Calling all cooks
My husband and I stayed in this condo for 1 week in October 2019. Entry door on parking side and spacious lanai on the ocean side. Good sized parking slots. Underground parking, if you prefer. This unit allows 2 vehicles to be parked. See white binder on writing desk for parking tags. This is a corner unit with windows on 2 walls (West & South) and the front entry on the Mountain side (East) wall. Locking Steel screen door at the entry allows for taking advantage of refreshing breezes. The entry door latches open, if desired, to prevent door from slamming closed. Bedroom, kitchen, LR have windows on south side, with wonderful breezes coming through in the mornings and evenings. The unit has AC. There is a gazebo seating area on the South side, designated as a smoking area. It is 50-60 feet away from the exterior wall of the unit. Noise/smoking smell was not a problem during our 1 week visit. We saw people sitting there in the morning, with coffee. No smokers though. The Lanai side is 1+ story up on the complex terraced lot and you will be delighted with the view of the pool, gardens and the Pacific Ocean. After leaving the airport, we shopped at Costco for food items only. We wanted to check the condo before buying condiments, oil, seasonings, gear. Previous guests leave condiments and seasonings which I did not feel uncomfortable using. Local shopping, Safeway, Walmart and KTA close by. If you are a foodie, visit KTA. Local produce, Mexican and Asian foods, great bakery and deli. Fresh made bentos at the deli counter. Mochi donuts in the Bakery area. Oh Heaven! We found a small soft side ice chest in the pantry, that we used to pack lunch for our hikes. TP, Paper towels, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, dish soap, shampoo and conditioner. Some of these items may have been left by previous guests and may not be in good supply when you arrive. I would recommend checking first, before buying. There is also lots of beach towels and cotton bath linens. Tiled and wood floors. Bring your inside house shoes for ‘no shoes please’ home. Please bring reef safe sunscreen. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of dishes for up to 8 people, cookware and bakeware, flatware, chopsticks, glassware, barware, electric hand mixer, stick type blender, and a set of good Cuisinart cutting knives with guards. Good electric range. DW, microwave. Coffeemaker, bean grinder, toaster, blender. 3 cup rice cooker, CrockPot. The appliances are in good working order. I baked sourdough and the oven works very well, preheats quickly. It was so nice to have that toaster for toasted sourdough. I like to cook and this kitchen is setup and equipped better than any kitchen we have visited. Good job! It was nice to be able to vacuum and sweep most days, including the lanai, after rain and wind. LG W/D to keep your laundry clean so you can pack light. Broom/dustpan, vacuum, iron, ironing board. 2 Beach chairs, body boards, pool noodles, snorkel stuff for two. Comfortable bed with all cotton linens, lots of pillows. Fold out sofa bed in the LR, leather recliner with electric recline mechanism. My Husband was so Happy! Nice furniture at poolside; loungers, tables with tilt umbrellas, chairs. Seating in sun and shade. Great Weber gas grills poolside, under the pavilion, kept spotless by grounds maintenance staff. Very short walk to village/town. Walk to town using road on ocean side street, to avoid walking up busier Ali’i Drive. The Host, Cindy, is very responsive to Qs, usually answering my messages within a minutes, 7 days a week. Look for the white “Welcome Home” binder on the writing desk, which gives you great information about the AC with remote app, WiFi access, Smart TV and remotes instructions, and other amenities provided for your use while staying in this lovely place. Accessibility-Though the shower has a curb, there is only a small 3” step down out to the lanai. Parking area has no curb, with same elevation walkways and a slightly tall threshold at the doorway. The complex has elevators from the underground parking to all floors and wide walkways, including upper levels. F1 Manager/Owner is very helpful 7 days a week. Some Airbnb accommodations, managed by a Property Management services are Monday-Friday, with weekend emergency service only. We will definitely seek out F1 on our next visit to Kailua-Kona.
Location, location, location
This was our first trip to Kona Reef Resort, and it was fabulous! Located within a short walk downtown, this Oceanside resort was perfect. We had a great view of the ocean to watch the Iron Man World Competition swimming event, and then walked to the front to watch the running. There happened to be several competitors and their families staying, as well which made for fun conversation. The condo was very well appointed including a washer and dryer. We like to cook and found it to be very easy with a kitchen full of cookware. The pool is right on the ocean making for beautiful sunsets each evening! We’d absolutely stay here, again. The staff was very helpful which topped off a great visit.
Nice apartment complex walking distance to Kailua
Small pool and jacuzzi with BBQ grills to use. Short walk to all the shops and restaurants. Fun tide pools on the beach, but not too easy to swim/snorkel at the property. The staff is only available 9 to 5, so very much like an apartment complex. I was trading in a high end week at Club Regina in Mexico (Cabo, Cancun, etc.), so this not at all at par with those resorts. We had a coffee spill that was left for us to clean up and deep cleaning of hidden areas was not done, but for the most part it was acceptable. I would expect this to be on the low end of cost. Since I traded a very high end week, I was disappointed.
Kona Reef Resort
We picked this place due to the fact that it was close to everything. We had a good ocean view and close to all the restaurants, bars, and local shops in Kailua . Fully equipped kitchen and had nice balcony to enjoy breakfast or a meal while watching the ocean waves . The only downside was that the air conditioning would go on and off at times. We stayed in unit B-14 which fortunately had air conditioning in both the bedroom and the living room . They did have electric fans as well to cool the place down as it did get hot and stuffy at night . The furniture is tropical themed which was a nice touch. The unit had beach chairs and body boards for those interested in surfing . The unit had a washer and dryer which came in handy . Don't overpack!
