Hotel is pretending to be a first class hotel. It is located at a very nice location the receptionist gave a very good service but the hotel is trying to earn in a way it is not common today they charge extra for the wi-fi. Even though in Agoda site it appears as included

    NOT A 4 star

We reached home on Wednesday from The Occidental Grand Papagayo by Barceló This was our first time visiting this resort and my first impression was the scenery. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. We spend a week there and I must say the food wasn’t my favorite. There’s wasn’t much variety to choose from at all. They had a hot, salad, bread and desert station. The hot station consists of rice and bean, mixed or stew vegetables AKA Ratatouille, fried plantain, chicken in some sauce, fish in some sauce and nachos and this could be lunch or dinner just to give you some samples but majority of the time the food was very salty. They food stations just didn’t wow us at all. We had been to other resort and the variety you just couldn’t wait to see what they going to serve you next we really got excited but not here. Breakfast was the same for the whole week we were there not even a slice of bacon or sausage you couldn’t get. There’s wasn’t much activity for us to do at the pool they had activity for the beach like snorkeling and jet skiing. I was looking forward to doing some Zumba. We wanted to hear good music at least at the pool area just to hear signs of life around us but the resort was very dead especially at night. They didn’t have much entertainments for us to do especially when you’re so secluded. This first night we were here was a guitar player he was very good and the last night was a man who played the flute and saxophone he was an excellent entertainer. They also had this disco room that played music but was so loud we left after couple minutes. You can also tell at one time this resort was beautiful but the new management Barceló need to invested in the resort and bring it back to life. The concrete stairs have so many crack in them. We met a lovely couple from Canada and this was their second time at Occidental and they were telling us that the resort when downhill after Barceló took over they said the food was on point back them and you had more variety to choose from but that’s was then and this is now. Overall it wasn’t a terrible stay we had a good time venturing out on our own just walking and taking in the scenery and listening to all the animals around us. The beach need some upgrading there was too many rocks, no umbrella to sit under and no services to take your order for drinks at the beach. I wouldn’t say that this resort was a 4 star but more of a 3 star. The room was spacious and very clean. They need new white towels the ones they have were very dingy. Some of the staffs were friendly NOT all. Would we go back no but you will have to experience it for yourselves this was just our experience. Glad to be home.

    Lovely place!

We had an amazing time here! What we loved the most were all the activities that were included (especially snorkeling!). The views were unique. The food, drinks, and amenities were really good. Would definitely go back in the blink of an eye. Thank you!

    Simply average

First of all staff is absolutely great Friendly helpful and very courteous Restaurants bland and not at all good Choices limited and poorly prepared Salad and fruits are sometimes frozen to plate after being saved from previous day Food limited at times or not available to guest due to lack of quantity Snack bar is disgusting and a place to avoid Rooms are less than what I expected in an upgrade Bathrooms not air conditioned and are extremely hot and stuffy much like camping also in need of repair and upgrade Activities very limited and no real plan to entertain guest unlike other resorts I have stayed Really boring unless you like a guy playing a saxophone in the lobby Beach is a really long walk a steep hill back to hotel much like the entire property Overall I recommend excursions for entertainment and food This hotel has good beds and that is good because all you can enjoy here is sleep Bad food boring atmosphere and difficult hills to negotiate resort This is my last day and looking forward to leaving
