Disappointing. Bad Service!
I visited Breathless Riviera Cancun recently with my boyfriend and a couple of friends and have to say that, sadly, I was disappointed. To put my opinion into perspective, I travel to Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Riviera about 2-3 times a year (every year for the past 8 years). We’ve stayed at many resorts in the area, specifically AM Resorts, and the experience here just left a bad taste in my mouth. The hotel itself is beautiful but very remote/not close to anything. They’ve done a great job at separating the party and relaxing areas, but the service is what left a lot to be desired (and let’s be honest, that mostly why you would go to a resort). The first incident was during check-in – the staff, specifically Itzel, was extremely condescending and borderline rude as we requested a higher floor simply because my boyfriend and I are light sleepers (A REQUEST WE MADE AT THE TIME OF BOOKING). She said she would, and then had us run around and come back at different times, and at one point had us sitting there in the lobby for 30 mins without saying anything about the room, just waiting. Not really how you want to start your vacation. After close to two hours wasted, we finally got the manager involved and got a room (but then we had to come back the next day to switch rooms and repeated the whole ordeal). Then another night, we tried to go to the French restaurant, everyone in our group was well dressed with polo shirts and jeans (at the beach, keep in mind), but one of the guys lost one of his bags at the airport and only had flip flops. The host refused to let us in saying there was a strict dress code, even though we could clearly see through the glass that there were people inside the restaurant with t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. We asked to speak to a manager and this guy comes out, almost thumping his chest and being rude to us. He yelled and even flipped us off. We of course requested to speak to a higher manager, who came and was apologetic but didn’t really do anything. It just really ruined the whole experience. As I mentioned before, we’ve been to several of their resorts – Secrets in Cancun, Secrets Maroma, Zoetry, Breathless in Dominican Republic – as well as many resorts in the area – Le Blanc, Live Acqua, Riu Palace, among others - and this is the first time we were treated this way. So we contacted the hotel’s general manager as we thought they were probably not aware of how their staff was handling things at the hotel, but turns out bad management and service comes from the top. The general manager took days and follow ups to (have his assistant) reply to our email, and we felt like we were pretty much dismissed. So as a regular traveler to Cancun and vicinity, I can say…there are definitely much much better hotels in the area.
Best resort for entertainment
Got home 2 days ago and still recovering from all the Mango Tangos (yum!). So much fun! Pros: Entertainment staff and activities. Dancers come out to the the Party Pool every half hour or so in tiny swimsuits to pump up the crowd. The party side has the foam bubble party, DJ, musicians, acrobats, and random, unique characters like some dude on stilts or the glow ball guy that just show up. Oh yes, and the sexy sax player. Wow. There were mermaids, hot girls pouring champagne into my mouth, etc. If you want to hear each other talk instead, you go to the middle pool. Aerobics, sand and water volleyball, and dancing at the beach bar goes on, but it's more chill. The third pool is the XHale quiet/napping side which is great for the day 4 hangover. Other pros: stand up/walk around hot tub, After Dark club where we watched the fight on the big screen and danced, neon dance party in the square until 3am. (I felt bad for the people who had rooms over that square. Maybe they sleep during the day?) Lots of after hours activity. Best Pro: Miguel, part of the entertainment crew. High energy, funny, and always going. He made sure everyone was having a great time when he led water aerobics or zumba or when he was just dancing with us in the pool during the foam party. He remembers everyone's name. He seemed like he was part of our group partying with us all week. Loved that guy. He should get a raise. If I have to come up with cons: kind of strict with the no cigar policy and noise level on the quiet side, but I can see why I guess. There was always staff walking around making sure our sliding glass door was closed and that we didn't leave speakers on the porch. I know it's for cleanliness and safety, but I felt more monitored here than other places. Good or bad depending on how you look at it. One thing that was annoying was that there were certain guest levels for access to different areas. XHale was private but instead of having a bracelet or something, the manager went around with a clip board and checked everyone to see if they were allowed. Kinda uncomfortable when someone got the boot in the middle of a nap. Also if you book your group with a central booking number, they don't have great communication with the actual hotel. We're still working stuff out with a certain group promotion we didn't receive. I would say it was an all around great vacation with top notch, friendly staff. Enough partying if you wanted it, plenty of beautiful spots to chill, food was decent, The coffee shop was excellent, gym was great, VIP lounge had fabulous ceviche and desserts. I would go again.
Very good place
In overall breathless riviera cancun is a really good place to stay, luxury comfortable, if you want party, relaxing or just to pass by is awesome. The only thing I found is seafood, in every restaurant is not very well made, tha last night I had intoxication with shrimps from italian restaurant, rare for a hotel that is on the beach but for everything else all was good.
For Senior Citizens Only
The room was beautiful, the customer service was great. I was in a room with great view. The only complaint was that the Pools closed at 6pm, which is too early and not enough entertainment. The best restaurant was the Hibachi (can't remember the actual name), but you can only make reservations after 3pm for them to then tell you that it was closed on Sundays. This was the only day we could go since the other days were booked. The Spoon Buffet Restaurant had a large variety of food but the food was never hot only luke warm, the staff heated our food up. Overall the service was very great, I would go again with my old grandparents, not for middle age, unless you want to go to sleep early, absolutely not for partying.
really awesome resort!
We were a family of 7 who stayed at Breathless and we loved our experience:) We had a great time! There's something for everyone! Our rooms were really nice, food is great:) Staff is really nice. The only problem is at the French (Coquette) and Italian restaurant (Spumante). It takes FOREVER to get a table at these 2 restaurants. But once we were finally in, we understood why! Service is horrible. The waiters are really nice but we got our food in the wrong order, some of our plates never showed, and we got some stuff we did not order!! Maybe they need new management in those 2 restaurants because they are very confused. But I would still go back in a heartbeat I also met the greatest CONCIERGE ever! ITZA, she was so incredebly nice and she helped us make our stay perfect!
