Walmart of resorts
There were severely mixed reviews and after staying there, we realized why. Those used to a lower quality think it’s great, while those used to a higher quality think it’s the Walmart of resorts. We got an amazingly cheap deal, saw the bad reviews, and decided it was worth it. I don’t have the time or desire to list out all of the issues and annoying things with the resort (like another reviewer said). A few of the most irritating things- most of the restaurants are not open most nights, the food is not good, you only get 2 beers in your room fridge each day (even though all inclusive), elevators are crazy slow, the rooms are not that clean (they’re decent, but the maids left their hair everywhere and the floors weren’t clean), the music at the activity pool is insanely loud- i mean triple the crazy loud that you normally hear at some resorts. There were quieter areas and enjoyable areas. Great place for kids- we have 2 very littles. Like I said- we got it really cheap. I would go back for the price we paid if we decide to do another cheap vacay, but be prepared for a Walmart experience. By the second half of the week and many drinks we were used to the problems and didn’t let them bother us too much.
Cyril, Marshalee,and Martin
We visited Sunscape and the staff made the whole trip....the resort was nice and plenty of things to do but Martin, Marshalee, and Cyril were the highlight! They provided top notch service and entertainment! They will be the reason we return to Jamaica!
Worse Vacation Ever!
Sunscape Splash Montego Bay is the worst Resort we have ever stayed in. The website said the Resort had which they Did Not! For example; fridges in our room left empty each day never filled with new drinks and one beer for the entire vacation. This Resort was suppom of the 3 was open for you to dine at each night. They ran out of ice for drinks and the food wasnt good at all. We were given one towel in our room to use for everyone in our room. When asked for more Beverages and towels we were given one extra. Jamaica is very beautiful and we will be back but this hotel is not anything like the rest of Jamaica. Please spend your money elsewhere as this is a very misleading Hotel. If you don't buy the timeshare they give you as little as possible...never again for this family.
Not as bad as the reviews say
It's really evident that a lot of people just like to complain. We just returned (last night) from a wedding with a family group of 22. First off the only negative people we ran into were 1-2 people at the front desk. When checking in we were given juice, that was really watered down, barely any flavor. My sister in-law was checking in at the guy was like "look at me" so she did then "look at the paper" right after kind brass. Our rooms were not immediately ready so our bags were placed in an area that we were told was safe and was told to go get some lunch. We tried the Barefoot Cafe - which was not great, the hamburger had a weird texture and tasted more like meat loaf, the hotdogs looks like blood sausage. We come back and my brothers bag was missing. The luggage guys looked at each other perplexed and started radioing people, then everyone was just standing around. They ended up finding the bag somewhere. Shortly after my brother's room was ready so we went and checked it out. Shortly after that they brought our keys to us in his room. The rooms are not bad, the bedding is really old, had them change the bedding a couple times due to old stains. The rooms would benefit from just new bedding throughout. The rooms were very clean, we had to ask for our mini fridge to be restocked but after that they were sure to keep them full. Our housekeeper who I wish I grabbed her name was the best, constantly checking in on us to make sure everything was ok, super friendly. Internet in the room is free like the lobby, its advertised as a charge but just shut your wifi off then back on if it asks for your credit card. Elevators - avoid them if you can, they are pretty slow and only two of them and they are both really small, we had a few incidents where they elevator would have an emergency door activate message that scared us. Samantha our waitress in the Gohan was amazing, super friendly and attentive, the food in the Gohan (Asian) was really good as well. The pool does close at 6pm which is really early, but the pools are extremely well maintained unlike others have commented and there were always plenty of towels to go around. The food was different from what we are used to, all the meat items were chopped like the jerk chicken was whole chicken they would shop so it was a game of "find the bones". They had food theme nights, great breakfast, desserts and pasta! Entertainment is your normal resort experience. We really enjoyed the drummers and magic show/circus they put on. The beach....I saw so many complaints about the seaweed and rocks, this is honestly THE best beach for snorkeling I have been too, the water is beautiful, it is shallow and has a lot of grass and rocks which requires watershoes but you see the most amazing things if you are snorkeling, we swam around the beach and walked out, yes walked out to the reef from the beach and saw more, tons of different fish of all size and colors, jelly fish, octopus, stingrays, crabs, hermit crabs, pufferfish, it was amazing, I would come back just to snorkel their beach. The beach chairs are in high need of replacement as well, they should add the palm shades further down as well. Lastly use Juta Taxi and ask for Ishmael - he was an amazing guy, walks with us when we went to the Hip Strip, showed us some great shops and protected us from people begging for money, can't say enough about him.
