One of Our Family's Best Vacations
The staff was very friendly right from our arrival. No staff member failed to say "hello" or greet us with a smile and a nod when passing by us - even those who were on their way to report for duty. The meals all tasted great. We tried the Portofino (Italian menu), Gohan (Asian), & Seaside Grill. All 3 had a nice ambience & tasty dishes. It was nice to not have to reserve dinner at these restaurants in advance. The pool temperature was perfect and the beanbag toss game was a lot of fun. Everything about our stay was enjoyable.
Maybe 5 star for kids, at best 3 start for adults
We were staying at the adjacent , Sunscape Cove so this review does not include accommodations. Our 8yo had a blast at the Splash stuff, and his parents enjoyed themselves overall However, there are too many problems to ignore. Children of all ages had fun in the pool playing volleyball and at the water slides & lazy river. There are free kayaks & snorkeling. The miniature golf course is a nice touch. A Segway tour & other boat rides are available for a fee. The beach always had chairs & often umbrellas available, the water is clear and with sizeable sandy patches about seagrass (which never bothers me anyway). The entertainment staff is the highlight of the staff. Evening shows were hit or miss. We were not bored & stayed out of the room almost all day. That said, the pool closed about 6:30pm, well before dark. Parts of the beach are stony, and jellyfish can be present. And beach towels are a rare commodity! They were *constantly* out every time of day, leading to guests hoarding their used towels. The buffet food was actually good. Much of it is authentically Jamaican, like curried goat and stew peas & rice. My Jamaican-born wife and lifelong Jamaican mother-in-law both were pleased. Non-Jamaican options were mostly good, some great. That said, service was almost non-existent. *Every time* we had to flag someone to set our table or bring drinks. Still took a while for service. Plates were constantly in short supply, we probably used dessert plates for most meals. The Barefoot Grill (where bare feet weren't allowed :/ ) had decent burgers and jerk chicken although some weird rules about not taking food out. We tried no other Splash restaurant since they were frequently closed. With occasional bright spots, the staff was... polite but indifferent. Few were rude, that said few went to any lengths to be helpful or welcoming. And those that did were typically expecting a tip, often asking for directly. We are used to this and have no trouble tipping or declining as we see fit. However, this can be off-putting especially at an all-inclusive. UVC members certainly are better off using their membership & money at other affiliated resorts. For non members, only consider this option if you have active kids and see deep discounts. Just remember that you get what you pay for and sometimes not even that...
The Resort was Old, Fairly Clean. Personnel at the front desk were far from Pleasant. Our Upgraded room for three (2 adults 1 child) consisted of 2 full Beds ? Asked for a larger room, This is all they could offer. Ask for a cot, that took over 5 hours to get. ONE towel in room ! Housekeeping explained it was all they had. Next day we got 2, No face cloth's. The Buffet was poor at best. There Italian Restaurant was ok, waiters were very nice, only wish they could train rest of staff. 2nd Night toilet was backing up all over the place, went to call front desk but there room phones didnt work, took elevator down stairs which those elevators are another chapter, reported my issue to front desk. THREE hours later still no toilet ? When I came back down again I insisted they move my room which they hemmed and bitched about but got that done.... New Room No Towels, Went to Pool, Guess what, No POOL Towels. The Place operates on a zero Budget ! So The Elevators ! 10 Floors 2 elevators. Dont expect to get up or down without waiting 10 minutes or more. Hotel is Old, Staff is Miserable, Pool is pasted together, tiles are falling out, Do yourself a favor and request a different resort ! I am a member of Unlimited Vacations, came to Jamaica for there water park, That was closed and broken, Was Told I shouldn't have expected much for the price ? NEVER asked for a discount resort, asked for a nice Place for Kids ! This is not it.......
Would NEVER go back
First off this was not an inexpensive trip by any means. The rooms were ok but the "cleaning" staff did minimal at best every day. despite being tipped well the beds were made but that was it. My son had dropped a cookie on the floor the first day, and while I tried to get as much up as I could on my own, it was clear the floors were never cleaned for the whole week we were there. There were never enough bath towels in the room. We had four guests in the room and each day it would either be restocked with two or maybe three towels, and if you called the front desk be prepared to wait a good 4-6 hours for towels to be delivered. The staff was not accommodating at all (minus maybe one or two people at best) We were often given the answer as "no" to all of our questions with no follow up answer to anything. Forget about getting a pool towel. I went to the desk where you pick them up maybe 5 times a day only to be told each time not one was available. Fast forward to my son being hungry and told he could not enter the cafe because he was too wet (Well then sunscape offer a person a towel and they won't be) We went with mulitple families and one family had to get dressed the first night with flashlights because there were no lightbulbs in their lamps and again the front desk did nothing until the next day. No choices on food. There is the buffet which is decent, the barefoot grille which literally only had a hamburger, fries or nachos everyday. Then they would alternate between the Italian restaurant being open and the Asian Fusion place. Both restaurants were fair at best. Not to mention that on our first day there we saw them bringing in food from off site in garbage bags and dumping it into the buffet trays. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I also wrote to the company to discuss the concerns I had and the issues we had on our trip and was never given the courtesy of a response.
Sunscape Montego Bay
I enjoyed my stay at this resort. The people were friendly and accommodating. The staff in the dinning rooms were amazing! They displayed the highest customer services output that I have ever encountered. Thank you!
