Beautiful resort for our 15 yr anniv!
We just returned from 4 nights at Secrets for our 15 year anniversary. We loved the resort and would stay here again. What makes this resort extra special and sets it apart is the service provided by the staff. Everyone goes so far and above in kindness, friendliness, and hospitality. A few that stood out... JJ, Julio, Ligia, Franci. The staff just works so hard to ensure you have a great stay. We had a room in the 400s, which has amazing views. Yes, you do have the option to ride the shuttle around the property, but it is not a big deal at all and I would say do not let it dissuade you from coming here! In fact, think of it as a time to chat with other guests, enjoy some AC and ask your driver a question or two. The beach is mostly a black sand beach and very pretty. It's not the powder bright white sand but that didn't bug us at all - since we were expecting it and not planning to spend all of our time there. We would rather be active doing things than lying around. We tried all of the restaurants and most were very good. The only ones we didn't care for were Portofino (pants required for men, fyi!) and the Market Cafe (buffet). Those two weren't impressive, but since there were about 4 other places to eat, that was no problem at all. The drinks do seem watered down... even the wine, although I'm not sure how that is possible?! For white, they only have Savignon Blanc and Chardonnay to choose from, unless you want to pay out of pocket (not part of the all inclusive). Not a huge deal. We did not book anything thru the hotel... but that's b/c I mainly booked everything online before our trip. We did the catamaran snorkel cruise (highly recommend), an all day trip to Arenal for the rainforest, hanging bridges and La Fortuna waterfall, and surfing lessons in Tamarindo. I set up airport transfers through Costa Rica Best Trips (safe, on time, professional), and our volcano day thru Gerson at Outdoor Adventures CR. Highly recommend both of those!
Went to Secrets Papagayo for our honeymoon - it was fantastic!
- The hotel is a villa-style setup, with all the rooms scattered over the huge gated half-kilometer hotel grounds. A small fleet of vans (9-seater Toyota Hi-Aces) that circulates regularly gets you around quickly and easily - Beautiful beach front, sand seems to have come from volcanic material and is a super fine black powder. The resort sits inside Culebra Bay, which means the shore doesn't get open water currents and waves and are instead met by gentle waters. The two main areas were accessible through the beach during low-tide - Every single staff was friendly and incredibly helpful, all spoke English fluently and were teaching us a bit of Spanish whenever we asked! Preferred check-in made the process extra-VIP - The food was delicious - all the restaurants and bars served a great range of cuisines. Drinks were also spot-on, I recommend the Guaro Sour, which is made with sugar-cane alcohol! - The rooms themselves were spotless and very well-designed. Absolutely romantic ocean-facing views made us honeymooners very happy - The spa was pretty awesome, the team knew their anatomy and the setup really pampers guests Would highly recommend to any couples looking for a getaway in the middle of paradise!
Room : awesome Food: good Gym: not memorable Beach: Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain(time of the year) Very hilly but they have shuttles. There was construction going on at the time. Hope that helps 💃🏽🕺🏿
We're just enjoying our last evening here. The hotel grounds are lovely. The food has been top class. Housekeeping in the room has been hit and miss with us having to frequently request shower gel and towels as these hadn't been replaced. We also asked to move from a room in a very noisy location after the first night which the staff promptly arranged with no fuss at all. We chose the quiet pool location of Aqua for our days. The staff were fabulous with a very special mention for Luis and Victor behind the bar, and to the gorgeous Hannia in the restaurant. Hannia arranged a truly beautiful, special, romantic lunch for us today as we had come to Costa Rica to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It was so special so a huge thank you to her and the staff, and for looking after us so well every single day. We will miss you! A big-up too to JJ on the shuttle bus for his fun personality and for understanding our 'Spanglish '😄. Highly recommend this hotel. Finally, a huge thank you to the lovely Tania, our TUI rep who was wonderful, and went above and beyond for us.
Excellent Service, my room was awesome. Only complaint, I'm thinking the grounds, walk ways and decks should of been blown off daily. So messy we couldnt use deck, Lots of debrie walking up stairs. The staff was awesome.
