    Just Okay

Just back from four days/three nights at Secrets. The trip from Manuel Antonio was much longer tha expected due to construction and traffic delays, so seven hour trip, which got us there at five. Reception area was very nice with pleasant greetings. They took us to our room, which turned out to be horrible (463). Very small, view of electrical boxes, horrible sewage odor on the patio, water stains on the ceiling and a very large spider greeted us. I called to change rooms and was told none were available. I messged my travel agent, with pics, who immediately contacted her rep for the resort. Within twenty minuts the manager called to say a nicer room had miraculously opened up. It was nicer. Overall the service was excellent, the food mediocre to bad, with a couple of good dishes. The place is frayed around the edges everywhere except reception. Worn out and moldy furniture, broken roof tiles, stuffing coming out of cusions, broken items in rooms (from other guests) and just poor upkeep throughout the place. The pools were okay, but there were nowhere near enough chairs for all of the guests, so people constnatly circled, waiting for someone to give up the chairs. It is completely isolated from anything, so a long, expensive taxi ride is necessary , if you want shopping, activities or alternative restaurants. Overall, I can not recommend Secrets. There are too many nicer places to stay in Costa Rica.

    Great Resort

We stayed at Secrets Papagayo from January 4-10. It was a great resort! The resort is very spread out-plan on doing lots of hill walking to get to where you want to go! We enjoyed the walking, but if you don’t want to walk, shuttles were always available in a matter of 1-2 minutes. The staff was incredible! Carlos was amazing- he did tons of activities by the pool and had such a fun personality. Alexis and Elmer in the preferred lounge bar were awesome! They were very personable and funny- and made great extra dirty martinis! Jeffery was our bartender a couple nights at the pool area bar. He made the most unique drinks and they were always delicious! We loved the villa style resort VS staying in hotel looking building. Our view was great and it definitely felt very private. Very few vendors on the beach and they were not bothersome at all. We did a jet skiing tour that the entertainment crew by the beach set up for us. Recommend only doing it if you feel very confident on a jet ski, the water was pretty rough on the day we did it and it was a lot harder than we expected. Nightlife was good. Always some type of show or music at the sugar reef until about 1am. Bartenders Jose and Gary were fun at that bar as well. A couple downfalls of the resort: Breakfast service at Aqua was not great. We are there two mornings and it was very slow and wait staff forgot items on our order. Lunch and dinner service was great though. As a group of 12, we had a hard time sitting together for dinner. We have stayed at a secrets before and this was also an issue, so we weren’t really surprised. Any girl in our group that wore a white swimsuit throughout the week had her suit turn yellow from the pool. All of us had yellow spots on our white suits from the main pool. You could definitely tell the main pool was dirtier looking than the pool by the spa.

    Wonderful Honeymoon at Secrets Papagayo

My wife and I had a wonderful honeymoon experience at Secrets and would highly recommend. The property was stunning, and did a wonderful job of integrating into the natural scenery, rather than just a concrete structure on the beach. We frequently saw wild iguanas, birds, crabs and other wildlife that made us feel like we were still out in the wild. The most fun we had was walking along the beach outside of the property limits (each direction), where we found private beaches that were miles long and completely remote. We couldn't believe how non-crowded the resort felt, and this really improved our experience as you feel like you are getting one-on-one service. The room was fine and spacious with a wonderful bathroom. Although we rarely used it, there is a nice TV with access to US channels if that is important to you. The staff was extremely fun, friendly and courteous, and not once did we feel pressured to tip or participate in something. At other resorts, you are constantly bothered to participate in excursions or buy souvenirs, and we did not experience that at all during our time. They respect your privacy and relaxation. While there were a couple small misunderstandings with the staff, when we approached them, they made sure to promptly resolve everything and we were very pleased. We were conveniently there during New Years, and couldn't believe how amazing the Circus themed dinner, show and party were. Secrets really went through all the stops. We purchased the Love Unlimited Package (200$) and we felt this was really worth it as it offered an hour long couples massage, breakfast in bed, and daily amenities left in our room like a bottle of champagne or a piece of cake. These personal touches were wonderful and really improved our experience. Overall, this was easily the best trip we had been on, and would highly recommend it to couples or families looking to relax at a resort while also appreciating the wonderful scenery and weather that Costa Rica has to offer! Necessary Shoutouts to employees who made our experience top notch: Javier at the bar/pool was unbelievable. After day 1 he felt like our best friend and each day surprised us with a fun/sweet gesture. Can't speak more highly about him. Luis and Henry at the bar were patient and served up the best custom drinks. Also very fun! Diego was a top notch server and took great care of us on our New Year's Dinner. The Entertainment Team (Andrey) helped keep afternoons fun and weren't too pus
