Best Secrets We’ve Tried
A group of 4 of us stayed for the week of 9/7, returning home yesterday, and we’re already looking to go back soon. We’ve been to many different resorts and this was our 4th stay at Secrets and by far the best stay we’ve experienced. You hear the saying “it’s a pleasure” often but this time we truly felt it’s meaning. The staff is absolutely incredible - from housekeeping, to entertainment, to the group at the beach - we were made to feel like we were the most important people on the grounds. I have to call out a few people (and there are many names I don’t remember that should go on this list so forgive me) but Roger, the beach concierge...I wanted to pack him up and take him home! He was incredibly kind and couldn’t do enough for us. Rog buddy, we miss you and thank you and hope your foot gets better soon. You’re the best! Bernice...you made us laugh for an entire week. You’re adorable! Erick in food service...your outstanding service was much appreciated and we thank you. And to the girls who served us on the beach and kept our glasses full before we even asked...our vacation was so relaxing thanks to your services. Everyone we spoke to in the past said Secrets Maroma was the place to be, and it was super nice, but it doesn’t rank as #1 for us. This place had the best in food, service, comfort, entertainment, and overall luxury and we will go back. Thanks to all who made this vacation the best one we’ve had. Looking forward to another one soon!
Top Notch Resort!
Our first all-inclusive resort stay and it did not disappoint. It’s a little bit “out of town” but the resort has plenty of activities to take part in. The entertainment staff coordinates cigar rolling classes, volleyball games, pool games/dances, cooking classes, tequila tasting, corn hole games, various Mayan ceremonies, and Spanish speaking classes to name a few. There are also nightly entertainment events such as magic shows, concerts, movies, etc. The daily schedule of events can be viewed on the in room “smart tablet” or on the AMS Resorts app if you download it to your phone. We stayed 6 nights (5 full days) and never left the resort once. Of course, you can schedule day trips with the representatives in the main lobby if you so choose. The majority of our time was spent on the beach. Thankfully, the Wi-Fi is great and reaches all the way to the beach. In fact, I was able to live stream a radio transmission of an NFL game on an iPhone while lying under a palapa on the beach. Regarding the beach, the palapas with comfy mattresses are reserved for “Preferred Guests” only. However, you should get up early to get one. It’s also acceptable to leave a few inexpensive belongings on the bed to save the space while you go get some breakfast and/or lunch. The remainder of the beach has a plethora of umbrellas and loungers if you are not willing to spend the extra to be a “Preferred Guest”. We booked through Costco.com and we were offered the “Preferred Club” rate with an ocean view room for an additional $140 for the entire stay. I’m sure this price varies but it was worth every penny in my opinion. It also made the check-in and check-out very quick and easy since we were given preference. Additionally, there is also a Preferred lounge that has snacks and drinks throughout the day. Final note on the beach…the sargassum (sea weed) was not an issue at all while we were there during the first week of Sept. Sure, there was a little on the beach and on windy days it floated in a little heavier, but we never found it to be a distraction. The resort does a good job of keeping the beach clean and the water was still beautiful. The breakfast and lunch buffets are good. Enrique did an outstanding job of taking care of us. The restaurants are also very good for dinner (pay attention to the dress code for each). The dinner show at the Himitsu (Pan-Asian) restaurant is definitely worth the time. However, you must have a reservation…ask the staff when and where to make the reservation as seating is very limited. In our case, the line to make the reservation began forming 45-minutes early. Also, keep in mind each restaurant closes for one or two nights each week, so be sure to ask the front desk so you can plan appropriately and not miss out on a restaurant you wanted to visit. As I said, we spent every day relaxing at the beach (by choice). We would like to thank Martha, Joanna, and Dianna for their exceptional hospitality in the Preferred Club area. We always had a place to relax and a drink in our hand…those three ladies truly made our relaxing vacation absolutely perfect!! They worked their tails off and always had a smile on their face!! One final note…although it is an all-inclusive resort and tipping is unnecessary, I believe a little tip goes along way. I firmly believe the service would be excellent without tipping, but everyone works so hard I think they deserve it. To make it easy, we carried a handful of dollar bills to make the tipping easy. We’ll be back…thanks Secrets!
We went to this restaurant two times during our visit and the food was excellent! Ribeye was about 16 oz. and the garlic sauce was delicious. The spinach bread and the octopus appetizers were amazing. Our servers were Erik one night and ethelhumberto another night, both were excellent and extremely helpful and friendly! Highly recommend this restaurant.
VIP Bar and Special Cocktail Inventor
The entire resort was lovely to say the least but Isias was so attentive, happy and accommodating for our evening cocktails. My husband Steve and I were asked what we liked and he made original cocktails to suit. All were fantastic!!! Thank you. 😁 We were disappointed only for the fact that we were unwell on our last evening so unable to have a farewell drink.
Oceana restaurant is amazing
A stunning setting with direct views across the beach and to the ocean. It’s relaxed but service is extremely attentive. Our main waitress was Thania and she looked after us with care and attention. We always received a friendly welcome, amazing food and a cheery goodbye. The manager, Cristal was always there to make sure we were happy. Of all the dining facilities available to us we chose Oceana way more than any of the others because of the staff first and also the food. A real treat.
