We booked our trip through Michael McHugh with Dream Makers Vacation Services and we couldn't be happier with how smoothly everything went on our trip. The resort has everything we needed for our perfect wedding day. Annalisa, Simone and Nekeisha provided us with many different options. Every detail was considered and covered before we even left home for the trip. Our travel agent arraigned a private transfer with Havian of Reggae Tours for the short 30 minute ride to the resort from the airport. We were greeted warmly by the hotel staff and Shanelle walked us through the final details for the wedding. While the beach was short, we still found plenty of room to relax and enjoy the water and the sun. We never had to go long without something to eat or drink. Jared took us out for a sail while we were on the resort and the small reef off the beach was an easy swim to see some tropical fish if you bring your own snorkel and mask. The restaurants each had delicious food and attentive staff. We went on an excursion through Reggae Tours to Braco Stable for some horseback riding. The guides were informative, friendly and fun. Our entire experience at this resort was positive. My Wife and I will definitely return.
Everything would've been perfect if it weren't for Stella
I went to the Secrets St. James property with my husband to celebrate our 5 years anniversary. While we were there we met and befriended the entertainer named Stella. I really liked her, but then I realized that she and my husband were a little bit too close. They would full on flirt with each other right in front of me. I told her to leave my man alone and she denied everything and I saw pretty explicit messages being exchanged between them in my husband's cellphone . she even sent him explicit pictures. He even left me to go see her at a party spot called peir 1. So my whole week was a disaster that's to that wh×$re. DO NOT TRUST THESE GIRLS AROUND YOUR HUSBANDS OR BOYFRIENDS
Not up to Secrets standards :(
We picked this resort for our Honeymoon and were overall disappointed. Pros: Hotel is gorgeous and huge property, great location from the airport, lots of watersports included, beach is nice and clean, lots of dining options, night entertainment is fun and high quality. Cons: *Very poor service (with few exceptions): - Check in was very slow -we arrived around noon, dropped our bags as our room was not ready and went for lunch, came back at 3 and were not given our room until 4, lots of different people asked our last name and then wouldn’t come back to check on us, we booked an Ocean Front King and asked upon check in how much it would cost to upgrade to Preferred and all we could get was: "I'm not sure" (then wouldn’t even bother looking or asking someone else) - We had a particular situation that really bothered us: Our first morning, we realized our coffee maker was not working, so I tried to call front desk, only to realize the phone didn't work either, after stopping at Coco Cafe, we went to the lobby to report our issues to the concierge, phone was fixed but coffee maker didn’t work the entire week we were there, even when we reported it daily (sometimes more than once), that's somehow disappointing as it is a very simple issue to fix. -Watersports staff (the ones that are in the office) are rude, and do not provide accurate information, they would hardly answer simple Yes / No questions and would even give nasty looks! Watersports guys at the beach are awesome though! * Another significant problem we found is that apparently the Buffet was being refurbished while we were there, so we were moved to Bordeaux for breakfast where there was a little "kind of" buffet set up, with very few options resulting in us having an omelet (with the same ingredients) for 7 days in a row, not to mention huge lines since that restaurant is not prepared for Buffet style (over 20 minutes at the omelet station, other options were basically pancakes and waffles). * In our personal opinion, food is not great either, there is very poor variety when it comes to fruit and vegetables (although you are in the Caribbean!), seafood is a joke, specially the Surf and Turf at Oceana that offers an overcooked steak with literally 2 tiny shrimp on top, once again, for being in an island, we expected a lot more seafood (and A LOT less chicken and pork) . Our favorite restaurants were Bordeaux and Portofino. * At other properties, top shelf drinks are available even at pool bars, which sadly was not the case at SSJ or SWO, not even at the Lobby bar or restaurants, only offered at the Piano Bar (which is only open in the evening)... This was another bummer for us, as drinks really justified us paying extra for staying at Secrets. ->Being such a special occasion for us, we really thought we would be pampered, and sadly it was not the case, instead we had to deal with some nasty people and take dirty looks more than once... Hubby and I are really nice and polite people who would always say please and thank you to everyone and even gave generous tips hoping service would improve! Speaking of Honeymoon, never got our breakfast in room as part of the newlywed package, or sparkling wine and those cool things advertised, only got turn down service twice while we were there. Wouldn’t recommend this resort, hopefully service is improved in the near future, which would make a huge difference (we could have overlooked at some issues if staff attitude had been different).
Wonderful, relaxing vacay
We booked Secrets St James to celebrate my 50th bday Oct 6th-10th & so glad we did! Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and immediately given cool towels to wipe off with and a cool Rum Punch to drink! They never let you have an empty glass. The lobby was elegant and check in was swift. We chatted with the lovely concierge Soshanna, who told us all about the resort & the excursions available. She did offer coupons for spa services, excursions and romantic dinner packages in exchange for meeting at breakfast but she respected our plans to not have an itinerary. The resort is beautiful and grounds well maintained. We had an ocean view Jr Suite (3326) & the view was amazing! We were also right above the pool so were able to hear the music during the day and laugh at the guests playing the poolside games! Lol The weather was perfect everyday and we relaxed on the beach with cool drinks and delicious jerk chicken daily from the guy that comes around with a cart. You can smell that yummy aroma while he's rolling up the beach! The beach service was a little slow but my husband had no problem walking 10 steps to the bar for Alvin, the best bartender on the resort, to hook us up with Bob Marley's & anything else we wanted! We went out on the kayaks and I pulled my phone out of the waterproof case to wipe it off & of course I dropped it in the ocean😪 We just chalked it up as a loss and paddled back in. We told the guys at the station what happened and they said, "No worries Princess, you're in Jamaica. Everything irie!" They took their shirts, put on snorkel gear and came back 20 min later...with my phone! I knew then that Secrets St James was special and this would be the best birthday & vacation EVER! Our room was nice, spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the turn down service was great. We loved the option of being able to turn on the privacy light so we didn't have to be disturbed. Ordering room service from the tablet was a breeze and service was prompt...even at 3am! The food at all of the restaurants was tasty, especially the breakfast. We were greeted with mimosas every morning. We enjoyed the shrimp burgers at the Seaside Grill on the beach as our go to snack during the day. We enjoyed the resort so much that we only did a shopping excursion to buy souvenirs and it was an eye opening experience. We went to several flea markets and met many locals. The nightclub was pretty live and the DJ was good. We ventured over to Breathless also and hung out at the Hard Rock Cafe. They had a live DJ and the crowd was live. There was something to do every night and even if you didn't, relaxing in the room or on the balcony was nice. We are already making plans to go back and will stay longer and definitely stay at Secrets again!
This resort was absolutely amazing. Staff was friendly. If you go visit definitely ask for SWEETNESS. She is definitely a sweetheart that knows a lot about the island. I will definitely be back and secrets is the only place I will stay.
