First ever trip advisor review... Me and my partner flew over with 8 guests because we were getting married here on the beach. We arrived and everything looked amazing, the reception staff were very friendly too. Our room was overlooking maintanance work so we requested a change, this was no problem at all, the new room was perfect with a nice view. Food was great. there have been a few reviews saying its just burger and chips but if you actually go to the restaurant and not the beach bar there is a massive selection. Pool Good size but you will never get a bed, people reserve them the night before sometimes! we noticed one day that a family of 4 had 4 beds reserved by the pool, 4 beds by the other pool and 4 beds by the beach at the same time... greedy! the wedding co ordinator was absolutely fantastic, her name was Reyna, I would like to thank her for making our day spectacular once the wedding day was over we had a nightmare with reception and room charges, it took 4 days of been told to come back to get it sorted, once we got to talk to the manager it was sorted within 1 hour so that you for that. Overall I would not do more than 7 nights here purely because of the sun beds and the way our last 4 days went. (if you use the water sports we found that the ones towards the end of the beach, before the Riu Yucatan were 15USD cheeper for the same thing)
Beautiful place for a FAMILY
My husband and I were here for 6 nights (Sunday to Saturday). The first thing we noticed was the beautiful garden in lobby. Check in was super easy for us and we got a room at 12:30pm which was amazing since check in isn’t until 3pm. The lobby is HOT however. It is not air conditioned. Our room had a ring sized bed. Room was clean and the bed was comfy. However the room was hot. It stayed between 26-30 degrees Celsius the entire time we were there. The safe was broken (we mentioned it TWICE to the front desk) and it wasn’t fixed the entire time of our stay. The hair dryer also broke the first night. The food was average and the buffet had many options. Our only complaints were about breakfast. It was ALWAYS cold. You have to make dinner reservations for the 5 speciality restaurants and they are hard to come by. The pool was nice and had good choice of music and entertainment for the kids. However people scope out pool chairs starting at 6am! Don’t expect to find an open one in the afternoon. The adult pool was nice with the bar but it was boring. Sometimes music was played. There was no other form of entertainment. The adult pool is also on the small side. The beach was beautiful but be prepared for LOTS of seaweed and again it’s a fight to find a beach chair in the afternoon. The shows were great fun and the staff was wonderful. We loved the wildlife. They were so much fun to watch everyday. I wish we would have brought extra clothes. NOTHING IS AIR CONDITIONED except your room (and ours wasn’t even that great). Overall it’s a beautiful place, well taken care of and you feel connected to the nature but it had a few disappointments
We arrived on the 14th of July tired from our trip, Checked in to the Tucan and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food shared between Quetzal and the Tucan everyday we ate like kings and queens at the restaurants under the Quetzal Banner. We got to meet the chef(Jorge)and he was Very happy with the hard working staff he manages. Bravo to all the hard working staff and the rooms and cleaning staff. A1 Terry
3rd time... sadly last time!!
We visited this resort for the 3rd time but unfortunately will be our last!! We emailed the resort 4 times to request our room which I know isnt guaranteed but we didnt get the room we asked...when we questioned reception later the room was available and we moved rooms! Prior to arrival all they were interested in was upselling!! Before as returning guests we had champagne fruit basket and t shirts....absolutely nothing this time!! I would describe this resort as star friends being burnt out and the staff being de motivated!! You still have great staff star friends Alex and Rodriguez and bar staff Michela and Agustin that absolutely made our holiday but in all honesty the resort needs closing and cleaning!! It needs repair and the food is absolutely shocking! Dinner is just rehashed lunch! I am so upset as this was an amazing resort but will not return!
excellent experience July 2019
beach: no seaweed problems. Beach cleaned up regularly by workers. Food: good quality and variety (especially ice cream, juices and marinated fish. Steak in a la carte restaurant was not the best but the stew soup excellent. Air conditioning was OK. We could not get lower then 25 Celsius in our room even though was set for 18 degrees. We like to sleep in cold but it was OK. Staff responded quickly to our requests. In order to have a place under umbrella on the beach one has to be there at 8 am at the latest to have a one. Entertainment good. We specially enjoyed Rodrigo and his team who organized "international games " at the pool. Good man with a lot of sense of humor. Nice live music at the lobby bars during evening. Staff courteous. Surroundings clean, a lot of different animals and lush "jungle" within hotel. Tucan and Quetzal share all the grounds.
