This is a good place. Food was above average, service great and the entertainment was excellent. First I read a lot of negative reviews about the beach, seaweed and seashells. The beach was nice and well groomed. There was seaweed (hello you are at the sea) they were very attentive and walkways cleaning the beach (Bravo to your beach crew) and we found seashells, nice ones. Not a lot of shells but we found some. Comparing to other all inclusive resorts the food was above average and the liquor top shelf. The pool was big and super clean. It is an older resort with some missing and loose tiles but there were guys repairing the entire time the pool was open. The major problem we had was the ac in the room. The room was nice e and super clean, the room never cooled off to a comfortable level for us and was very humid. We asked and they sent someone to fix it. We complained again and they gave us a fan which brought it to a tolerable level. Overall a good relaxing vacation.
Bad management and AWFUL food
We did not have a great stay here. We were with a party of 20 and most of the rooms were wrong. We were supposed to have two double beds, but when we got there, it was 1 king bed. Their solution was to roll in a roll away bed. This is supposed to be a luxury resort. They said they'd have a double room ready the next day. So we said we'd do that. But the next day, they hand us a piece of paper to sign saying they were downgrading us from a sea view room to a tropical view and we would not get reimbursed for the difference in price. They said we had no choice if we wanted a double room (which is what we booked in the first place!). What kind of place does this!? It's like a bait and switch scam. And the first night we were there, there was banging going on at 11pm when we were about to go to bed. We called the front desk 3 times and were told they were doing construction AT 11 o'clock AT NIGHT! Several other guests came out of their rooms to complain as well. It took them over 30 minutes to stop the construction. The food is disgusting. There are 5 restaurants here and only one is Mexican and was one of the only decent places. But it was only open for a short time during the day. Luckily it was the place that served food and drinks beach and poolside so we ordered food from there for lunch. The service on the beach was good, waiters very nice. But the buffet at Riviera is just gross. Breakfast here was passable, but definitely NOT luxury dining. When we tried to go to the italian place and the steak place, they said it would be a 30 minute wait. However there were tables at both places right near the entrance that were empty. We asked about those tables and they said they were reserved. But when we wanted reserve a table, they said we couldn't. I asked the hostess about this and she started fumbling her words until the manager ran over and told her to seat us. It's like they don't actually want you to eat the food! (maybe because they know it's gross). The Japanese place was pretty good. Other than the Mexican beach-side ceviche and taco bar, this was the only good-ish food they had. When we got into our new room, it wasn't great. The drawer in the bathroom was broken and clunked onto the floor when opened. They came to fix it but really just rigged it up. Tiles in the bathroom were broken. There was no hot water. I wanted to take a jacuzzi bath that they talk about all over their site, but after letting the water run for 5 minutes, it only got lukewarm. Who wants to take a lukewarm jacuzzi??? And the sliding glass door to our balcony would not lock, it was broken. So anyone could have come in through our balcony at any time. I was supposed to have the room by myself the last night as my roommate left one day before me. I called the week before to confirm and get the rate for one person. I was told $165 and I confirmed with her that it would just be me. When I went to transfer the room into my name the last day they tried to charge me $330! I showed them the confirmation that said $165 and she said "Oh the girl at reservation made a mistake, so you'll have to pay $330." Several of the people in my party walked by and were outraged at what they were trying to do. Finally the manager relented after an hour and said they'd give it to me for $190. I gave up and paid the higher rate. And they tried to make me feel like they were making a special exception for me when it was THEIR mistake! On my last day, I came in from the beach and the room was cleaned but there was a half drunk diet coke and a receipt for someone else's food sitting on my nightstand. This place has horrible management and the food is barely edible. The hotel itself needs a major makeover. If this is what all inclusive and luxury means to these people, then I will pass and never come back. Very disappointed in this place. Save your money and go somewhere else!
credit card skimming operation.
Hotels force you to go to Matis jewelry and tequila. Turns out the tequila factory check out girl has a card skimming operation going on. And I have all the receipts and paper work to prove it. Do not spend your money here as they will steal from you. And when you go to 5th Avenue you will see the same stuff for almost half the price. Secrets needs to do more to protect tourism especially at 18 pesos to a dollar right now.
My husband and I went on a vacation without our kids for the first time in a long time and this was the perfect spot! We’ve stayed at the Dreams resorts with our kids and loved them, so decided to stay at Secrets Capri. Our room was beautiful with a view of the ocean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We thought the food was actually much better than other inclusive resorts we’ve stayed at and there were a ton of options to choose from. Juan at the pool swim bar was also one of the best bartenders ever!!! He was always so sweet and accommodating- and had our favorite drinks ready right when he saw us coming. Julio and Eddie at the breakfast buffet were a ton of fun and great help in the morning! The entertainment team was also ALWAYS fun!! Hector, Geo, Bernice (I’m so sorry if I’m forgetting anyone) are probably the hardest working people I’ve ever seen. Always there right when the pool was open, and at the dance bar at night - they had an amazing attitude and were a great addition to the resort. This place will not disappoint. Whether you want to just relax or have a more exciting vacation - this is the place to go!!
Long Weekend Getaway
This is a tough one to rate, I'd probably go 3.5 if it was an option. The resort is small which is nice, but also means fewer restaurant options and only 1 pool. The pool is big enough though and never felt crowded. The best part of this resort are the people! The staff was absolutely outstanding. Pros: Staff is amazing. Small resort, easy to get around. Never felt crowded. Get to feed turtles every day!! Spa was pretty nice and they run some really nice specials Cons: Food was just okay, nothing outstanding but also nothing terrible Room was just okay, could use an update TVs are pretty bad - no real good channel offerings Pool needs some work, lots of loose/missing tiles As for seaweed, it really just depends on the day. We had pretty good luck during our stay, the last day was the worst, but even then lots of people were on the beach in the water. They do a really good job of keeping the beach clean.
