This resort is old and it appears they are simply slapping on a coat of paint instead of completely refurbishing the resort. When it rains water leaks everywhere. It’s dangerous! I enjoyed the Asian and Italian restaurants. Every dinner expect one took at minimum two hours from start to finish. My group of friends have been to the Cancun area a few times and paid around the same amount of money and this was by far the most out of date, low quality of food, unkept resort we have ever experienced. The staff tries but there is only so much you can do with a resort in this shape. The only positive about this resort is the staff, the beach, and the closeness to the airport. We loved every member or the entertainment and wait staff. They work very hard and without them this trip would have been even more miserable. If you’re having doubts don’t do it! Not even close to 5 star!
I have recently returned from a one week stay with friends at Now Emerald Cancún and can safely say I will not return. After visiting a number of all inclusive resorts in Mexico over the years I can confirm this hotel has a long way to go before it will be anywhere close to being ranked 5star. After reading the constant negative reviews before leaving, we approached our booking agent and requested to be allocated a new resort. Our agent firmly suggested that we should not be concerned and that it was just teething problems. They said they were confident in the Now brand. Nervously we decided to go ahead with our vacation at the Now Emerald Resort. Our understanding initially was that this was a Brand new resort. Thankfully we found out before arriving that it is in fact an old hotel undergoing refurbishment. One of the main issues is that this hotel is very old and frankly the refurbishment we witnessed was what looked like lots of patch work. One of our rooms flooded which resulted in some of us having to move to an alternative room. The new room had issues with the air conditioning unit dripping and the windows leaked when it rained. The bathrooms were awful, lots of grime and lime scale plus the water ran rust brown when we first turned on the shower. The building is leaking. There is water everywhere! Be careful! Food!...... The breakfast buffet is grubby and the food is not good. Lots of reheated or frozen food ( don’t touch the breakfast potatoes AWFUL) and regularly stations were low on supplies. Often we had to look for clean plates and silverware. On a positive note the made to order omelette/egg station was good but prepare yourself for a wait. Lunch by the main pool was average for most people, very few options. I don’t eat meat so the selection for me was poor. I ordered the fish on two separate occasions and both times it was undercooked and inedible. Sushi by the pool is good I would recommend that! Evening meals......yikes! Basically unless you arrive as the restaurants open their doors expect to have a long wait! Not just for a table but for your food after being seated. We knew even if we arrived as the doors opened that we would be sat for a minimum of 2hrs. The food in the evenings really is luck of the draw. The Asian restaurant is nice and the food was good but it is so hot in there! The Mexican restaurant was terrible, that night we sat for over 3 hrs and when the food finally came it was not good. Fish was watery and the meat eaters at the table complained their beef was really tough. One of our group didn’t even get their entree. The Italian food was good but the wait again was just silly. We kept hearing that the French restaurant was the best so we decided to save that for our last evening. It was ok but just ok. The food in summary was below average, by far the worst I have experienced at an all inclusive 5star resort. So now for the positive.... Every member of staff we interacted with was wonderful. Very hard working and professional, here is a list of the people we were really impressed by... Truly Lovely people!! The beach is beautiful We Loved being so close to the airport. Our understanding was that the hotel is currently running at around 30% occupancy. If this is true I have no idea how they will cope once they start booking more guests. This hotel needs an overhaul, if they continue at the current pace with their refurbishment it will be years before it can genuinely be labeled a 5star resort.
The hotel is 30 years old and very few repairs was done. The room feels and looks thirty years old, air conditioning does not work properly, on the second day of vacation, all the clothes feel wet and the room smelled of damp.Within 7 days of vacation I have been 5 times in the lobby with different complaints, very little has been done.We paid the same amount for a vacation in NOW Jade and NOW Emerald, but qualities of vacation in JADE 5 STARS, in Emerald 2 stars.
Michael at Reef Bar makes the whole trip worth it!
Great place to stay, food was amazing but the wait staff made it all worth it. Michael at the Reef Bar made sure all of our needs were met including one friends with type one diabetes making a customized low sugar cocktail just for her. He made each drink customized to our specific tastes. Wish we could put him on our suitcases and take him home!
Cancun trip 2019
This owner 12th year of going to Cancun and we have had great times there. This year we took 22 people which us and on check in the rooms are to be gotten at 3 pm. Well at 3:30 only 1 out of 10 rooms were ready and at 4:00 2 more were ready. By 4:30 or 5:00 the other rooms were ready. We got to the room and I found my Ocean view was of a Palm tree and no luggage. I went to the Front desk and found that 4 other rooms were wrong. After talking to the person in charge they got the rooms taken care of by upgrading us. But not to the next day. I can’t say that it was bad but I was the person that set everything up. But all of that we all had a great time. From Michael at the adult pool to Kailia Joigo James and Felipe the staff was great
