Now Emerald Cancun - A work in progress
My wife and I traveled here in July for my birthday/honeymoon. We've been to Mexico before and stayed at really nice resorts so our expectations may have been a little high. Now Emerald is going through a transition which was evident by all of the work taking place at the resort. HOTEL:The exterior parts of the resort are really nice and well maintained. It's almost identical to the photos shown online. This is a not a brand new resort so there are some sections that show some aging such as the pool bar but overall everything is really nice. ROOM:The room we stayed in I believe was the preferred honeymoon suite. It's the room with the private plunge pool on patio. Upon our arrival, getting to our room was a challenge. The room is located on the bottom level and there is no elevator to take you there. You have to take the elevator down to the 2nd floor and then walk around to where the steps are to get to the bottom floor. It can definitely be a challenge for persons that need accessibility. My wife is also pregnant so it was unbecoming for her to have to walk up and down stairs for an entire week but we made the best of it. The hallways are completely tiled so you also want to be careful and watch for wet spots. As far as the room itself, it could use some updating to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Maybe a new coat of paint or something. Other than that it was nice a spacious. Our plunge pool was not working when we got there but was resolved with a simple call to the front desk. They sent someone to clean it out and quickly got it working. Unfortunately, we had some issues with the AC. There seemed to have been only 2 settings-OFF or FREEZING COLD. We kept ours off most of the time but then it started to leak so we ended up turning it back on. We did make the hotel aware and turning it back on is what they advised. The room is also very humid and moist feeling. The bed and bedding always seemed damp and your clothes never seem to completely dry. (ie. swimsuits) Maybe the hotel can install dehumidifiers in the future or something to help with that. There could also be some brighter lighting in the bathroom area but that's just a preference. FOOD: Not every one of the restaurants is open every night so we had to call or go up to the front desk to find out what is going to be open. They were supposed to give out daily schedules but they didn't. BREAKFAST:There is only one option for breakfast which was the Carnival buffet. This place was an absolute mess. No structure, food stations constantly empty, cold food, and the food was just nasty. Not very many options at all. Just avoid this place if you can. Order room service for breakfast. It's a lot better for some reason and you don't have to worry about a dress code. LUNCH:We went to the Carnival buffet for lunch one time after we returned from an excursion because we were starving and immediately regretted it. It was the same as how it was for breakfast. We ended up walking out and ordering room service which is pretty decent. We had lunch at The Mix once. The ceviche was pretty good if you're into that. We tried the sushi bar and after ordering and seeing the sushi, I didn't trust it. I took a few bites and was done. I felt bad but I am particular about eating raw fish. We ended up at the Barefoot grill twice. I stayed away from the burgers and ribs. I stuck with the mushroom quesadilla and chips and guac. My wife got the wings they didn't look fresh on the second visit so we trashed them. DINNER:We tried all of the restaurants and our favorites by far were Paramour and Spice. You can forget about all of the other ones and I didn't even dare step foot into the Carnival buffet for dinner. Paramour is down a long flight of stairs so it may pose some accessibility issues. Once inside it is very elegant in decor and the staff is very polite. There may be a wait time depending on the time you go and how may you have in your party. I ordered the veal and lamp chops and both were delicious. The veal chop is definitely a hefty size as most of the portions at the restaurants are very small. IF YOU HAVE A MEDIUM TO LARGE SIZED APPETITE, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ORDERING 2 OR 3 ENTREES. I repeat, IF YOU HAVE A MEDIUM TO LARGE SIZED APPETITE, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ORDERING 2 OR 3 ENTREES. Spice was also pretty good. I ordered the duck and the pad thai and my wife ordered the beef curry dish. The duck was okay and the pad thai was pretty good. Strangely, I really like my wife's beef curry dish. They view at Spice of the lagoon is beautiful at sunset but keep in mind that it is extremely hot as it is all glassed. Avoid Tamarindo at all costs. The restaurant is very unsightly and it was by far the worst mexican cuisine I had ever had. Nothing else to say about it. Cin Cin is on the smaller side but very nice and intimate. Unfortunately, the food just doesn't cut it. Small portions of I don't even know what we were served. Capers had to be the work experience of all. It took forever for us to be seated and once we finally got seated it took forever for us to be waited on and once we placed our order we literally waited 45min to an hour for our food. My wife even took a nap and the food still hadn't arrived. Once the food did arrive it was awful. My wife ordered ravioli and literally only got 2 pieces and they were green. I ordered pizza and the chicken parm. Somehow the pizza from room service was far better and the chicken parm was a fail. BEACH:The beach is incredible and very well maintained. There is a bit of a seaweed issue but we were still able to enjoy ourselves in beautiful water. Just move away from the patches of seaweed. It was actually kind of fun. STAFF:All of the staff was extremely polite. They go above and beyond at offering the best service and experience possible. They met our every concern and need with a smile and even checked back to make sure we were satisfied. Rafael from VIP services was incredible. Make sure you go see him when you are there. He took excellent care of us and made sure we were completely happy. Abraham, the preferred beach area team member became a friend. He greeted my wife and I everyday by name. He was diligent is making sure that we had everything and anything we needed. He would sit and talk with us and really tried to get to know us so he knew how to better serve us. He is definitely an asset the their team and we can't wait to get back to visit him.
Horrible experience at now emerald cancun
Hotel under repair, rooms were sloppy painted, air con did not work in some of the rooms we were in. Water completely out for a full day. Restaurants, French and Spice were good the other were disappointing. All of the hotel requires the walking up and down lots of stairs to access the pool beach area, elevators that were in service were questionable. This location is not for anyone with knee or hip problems or senior citizens. We are members of a vacation club through AMRESORTS and are extremely upset.
Kids Explorer Experience
My son and our family friend’s daughter had a great experience with the Kid’s Explorer staff and activities. The staff are awesome especially Alexa, Lore, Yaz and Sabi. They treat the kids so special that we feel so safe as parents to leave them under their watch. The activities are awesome as well. All are great moreso the Bungee Trampoline Jumping! We greatly recommend the staying at Now Emerald because of the staff and the great service 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Needs serious help and what is advertised on their website is not what you get
We went with an open mind. First - the staff is awesome. Very nice and helpful if they are allowed to be. Little things started out messed up. The coffee shop is advertised as being available 24/7. But they open sometime after 7am so no coffee if you are an early riser. Brought it up to management and the next day a coffee bar was setup to accommodate. That was great. Same with food service at the pool bar. Management arranged it for the next day but then after that one day - it was impossible to get food. The biggest issue was the lying about the dress codes for the restaurants. This is Mexico - IN JULY - and while the website clearly states that Bermuda shorts are acceptable in ALL RESTAURANTS with a nice shirt and shoes, the resort changed the rules daily. On Monday night, even the buffet was formal. Yet snot nosed bratty kids are running around in swim suits, but adults are forced to wear long pants. The problem is my husband doesn't wear them and he was turned down night after night trying to eat dinner because he was wearing nice Bermudas and a Tommy Bahama shirt. When we showed the management what the website says, they offered a pair of loner draw string pants. They were 2 sizes too small and 4 inches too short. He could not get them past his thighs. If you advertise a set of rules, you should honor them. It is strange that they refused to let people eat, but they were more than happy to let the children hang out in the adult pool every day. The food, what we could eat, was good. The staff was excellent, but they are simply not empowered. The resort is super dated and tired. Shower would not drain. The rooms have AC, no way to adjust it. Our room was a consistent 20c (67 degrees) We could not get enough blankets.
