This is not a four star resort!!
I will be brief because most people don’t want to read a lengthy review. 1. You don’t get what you pay for at Dreams. It is very overpriced. 2. AC in the rooms is horrible. The AC system is old & out-dated. 3. Knats & bugs in the room. 4. Lots of noise at night regardless of the room location. 5. Vendors are allowed on the property & always trying to sell something. I thought all-inclusive meant “leave me alone so i can rest my mind & my body.”. Dreams gives it a new definition. 6. Avoid eating in the World Cafe Buffet restaurant. The restaurant is hot & the food has no flavor. 7. Bartenders are nice but they don’t know how to mix drinks. Avoid the mixed drinks. 8. The big band of seaweed arriving from the east is horrible. It stinks & no one can enjoy the beach. The one positive is the staff, especially Gigi & her staff who are in charge of entertaining the audience at night. They do a great job!!
Overall I'd rate the resort an OK, it depends on one's expectations and the price point you're able to book. We got a deal at less than half the rack rate, so this helped. Was here for a wedding, so had lower expectations. Food was very hit or miss and definitely not gourmet, I'd compare it to a highway Holiday Inn. Drinks were good for an all-inclusive and did include some mid-shelf liquors. The grounds were nice, tastefully landscaped. Lobby was lovely, expect for the furniture which was tattered and stained. The room was fine, fairly quiet and decently clean, but did smell musty. We never had enough towels, given 1-2 a day. The quality of linens was very poor; stained, frayed edges of towels, bedding stained. Beach was more like an open dump than a usable shoreline. I understand the difficulty with seaweed and agricultural chemicals from Africa causing a bloom, but the resort had only one person cleaning it. The stench was horrific and was a three feet high mound along the shore in places. Pools were comparable to a municipal or YMCA public pool in the summer. Uncontrollable children were everywhere, screaming, running by the pool and being awful. Resort led these strange very loud dancing sessions for the kids for hours every afternoon, with very inappropriate music for 6 year-olds. I came here to relax and this was not possible by the beach or pools. There was no enforced Adults-Only area, the herds of kids were everywhere and even the in the nightclub after midnight, the staff did nothing even after requests to make them leave. I'd not return to this resort. Good if you have lots of kids and low expectations for food/service. In future I'd go to an adults-only resort.
We stayed here for our first time to Mexico and went for the all inclusive option. The staff are friendly, plenty of activities on everyday and night at the resort, the food is pretty good in all of the restaurants, no mosquitoes and a great kids area. The grounds are exceptionally well kept, the staff do a great job. Rain or shine they are always out cleaning. Now the negatives - and they are pretty small but it’s worth saying why it’s not 5 star in my opinion. You won’t get in the sea due to the seaweed (it smells) which, granted, the resort can’t help and they do clean the beach everyday - obv they can’t clean the ocean though. The beach is useable at least. Parts of the hotel could be improved - ie bathroom fittings, low water pressure, kinda noisy buildings through the night you can hear neighbours doors opening etc. Tv was old, channels poor. Also, and I may have misread the website, but the kids area is only good for kids 3 and up, we have a 2 year old, so the cool slides they have on the website we couldn’t use and parents aren’t allowed to go into the kids area we were told. The check in process could be improved, we went for preferred guest but took us days to figure out exactly what that meant. We were shocked at the wildlife around the hotel, however they are harmless but it would have been nice to be explained these things at check in. They have a preferred lounge which is great, but it’s a separate key card to carry around - surely in today’s era your room key could also access that room as it’s a pain to carry two cards around all day. Finally the sun loungers around the pool are pretty basic, and could be better. Otherwise it was a really good stay, very friendly and helpful staff. We would def come back in the future.
Beautiful Resort for our family's "2019 Excellent Adventure"
This was our family's 11th "Excellent Adventure", and our first to Tulum. We've been to several all-inclusive resorts in Mexico as well as properties in Belize, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Roatan. Dreams Tulum is a very well managed resort with excellent activities and restaurants, and has traveler friendly features like adult-only areas, "no reservations required" specialty restaurants, and a separate "activities" pool. The staff provided us excellent service in all areas of the resort. A special "Thank you" to Alma in the Seaside Grill is much deserved! While the resort did everything possible to remove it, the area was experiencing large amounts of seaweed washing onto the beach, making it virtually unusable. It's unfair to hold the property responsible for this weather related condition, but it's also impossible to thoroughly enjoy a beach vacation when you can't use the beach. Two other points to consider when choosing Dreams Tulum: It is 1 1/2 hours by bus/van from the Cancun airport. There are many, many other resorts much closer unless you are interested in the Tulum ruins. Unfortunately, no one in my family was. Secondly, the property is isolated on the coast, so walking to nearby shopping, beach bars, or restaurants isn't an option. Everyone on "Excellent Adventure 2019" said it was "one of the best". But then they say that every year .....
Honest experience - UK Couple
Dreams Tulum Resort has to be one of the most disappointing holidays I have been on. Me and my partner are from the Uk and we have spend a lot of money coming to Mexico for ten nights. When we arrived we was treated very well with a “Welcome home” and a glass of champagne, and we at this point thought “here we go, I cannot wait to relax” From here we have found the food average, the staff average, adults entertainment average, drinks average and cleanliness average. I do not want to put anybody off staying here as there are a few good moments we have had, but our experience here has been nothing but a disappointment. We have purchased a Junior suit room and we have had the following issues Keycard not working: We have had the problem of our key card not working around 8/9 times. When we call the reception all we got was ok we’re fix it and nothing would get sorted. Not even anybody showing up at first! We went to the reception and again nothing sorted. This at one point stopped us leaving our room for three hours as we knew we could not get back in! We asked our room to be changed and ask to speak to manager and all of a sudden, you guessed it... sorted. House keeping: we went two days without a change of towels. In fact we had no towels full stop. Mini bar gets changed when they feel like it and room is NEVER cleaned. Room service: Do not order the breakfast to your room as it is cold NO WATER: We also went three hours with no running water just as we wanted to go out for dinner. Staff issues: When you ask for a drink at meal time it’s common for them not to return with your drink as they forget Reception desk: only are welcoming when you first arrive. Otherwise no eye contact is made when you have an issue, and seem to just want you out the way. Pool are and beach: Two pools one, one which has a swim up bar which is very un hygienic. Common to have empty drink cups around it and insects dead in the pool. Oh and you may find plasters in there as well! The other is ok, but very warm and boring. The sea is practically impossible to go in as the sea weed is awful here. Not the hotels fault though, just it is what it is. Good times were made here by ourselves and not the staff in my opinion. 24/7 you have someone trying to take a picture of you and the shops are a rip off! You need trousers to eat in a few places and if you are like me don’t have any, you have to pay $89 USD to buy some! PREFERRED SECTION: DO NOT BUY WASTE OF MONEY. ALL YOU GET IS A BEACH WITH A BED THAT YOU CANNOT GO IN AS IT IS TOO ROCKY. THE BEDS ARE A COST AFTER YOU USE THEM FOR TWO DAYS. Also you get a lounge which UNLESS if you like playing board games is a waste of money. MY ADVICE! IF YOU LIKE QUALITY AND LIKE ME BELIEVE IN “ WHAT YOU PAY IS WHAT YOU GET” THEN DO NOT STAY HERE. THE HOTEL SEEMS IDEAL FOR FAMILIES BUT NOT COUPLES! ALSO ALCOHOLIC DRINKS ARE POOR! IF YOU WANT TO GET DRUNK DRINK THE WINE!
