My parents planned a getaway trip to Mexico with my two adult brothers and I. Overall, we had a great time and I don’t want to seem overly critical. Secrets advertises as having ‘amenities of Unlimited-Luxury.’ However, the resort itself leaves much to be desired. A few things... -Mexico is humid and a reasonable amount of condensation is expected. Unfortunately, the hallways and common areas became so saturated that people were slipping and falling. -The pool and hot tub heating system wasn’t functioning correctly and the water was very cold. -The restaurants had limited selections and strange hours. If we didn’t arrive within a short window, we wouldn’t get served. Also, the restaurants couldn’t keep up with the number of guests. The quality of food was subpar. -The service staff was interesting. We agreed that the employees who were local to the area were much friendlier and more accommodating. Secrets is a good option for the price. I think they are reaching when claiming ‘Unlimited-Luxury.’
Worst trip Ever!
Hotel was to meet us in Cancun with a wheelchair to,get to,ferry-/ no one there and never heard of us! Had to pay extra $80 to get to ferry (which Amstar reimbursemented), got to hotel - no wheelchair! Do not have any - should have brought my own! Saw two in a room and took one! Cane to get it and I told them NO, My husband called two days before our trip to make sure everything was ok! Had to build a ramp at my door to get wheelchair into room! It was all down hill from there!
Cozumel Group Vacation
Took a group trip over Labor Day weekend to get away and stayed at Secrets Aura Cozumel. It may have been due to it being off peak season but not all restaurants were open and it seemed like they were not fully staffed for the vast size of the resort. Cons. The rooms were nice but nothing over the top, food was just ok and it didn’t seem like service was anything amazing. The floor of the ocean at the beach is really rocky and requires water shoes to enter. Pros. The ocean views were amazing, snorkeling in this area was beautiful.
My birthday celebration
We stayed at secrets aura, the resort was nothing out of the ordinary. The views were what sold the place just absolutely spectacular. However the service was terrible in the beginning, it was hard to get a drink or get a menu. We were told we would get a hammock, it never came, the waiters/waitresses were clearly not happy to be there. I do feel bad for them however, we stayed for 6 nights and I believe between the other couple that we met there and us we were the only people that tipped the workers or even said thank you. After day 3 it was better we really got to know some employees that made our trip unforgettable. There was Gilberto at the pool closet to the beach and he was FANTASTIC! He always checked in on us and just when I thought I was good and didn’t need anything else he offered me food or a different drink. He was super attentive and extra nice. Then there was Rigo at the swing bar. Let me tell you about Rigo he is the funniest guy ever. He knows who he serves and he serves us well. He kept the drinks coming and he showed us where to get the best authentic food there is on that island. Those two guys were absolutely the best. Of course there was Jeff from the presentation that we did. He was the most honest sincere guy. No BS no lies he just wanted us to make the best choice for us and we appreciate that. Over all the resort has great amenities, free equipment for snorkeling or kayaking, paddle board etc. the food was nothing special I was rather disappointed. The 24 hours food service was great for those mornings that we were too hungover to leave the room. The pools were fantastic. The entertainment was even better. There was Arby he was one of the people in charge of entertainment he was hilarious. All the shows were amazing and the daily activities were easy to follow. Hope this helps the next couple.
A 3 dressed up as a 4
First off, the staff were incredibly helpful and the beach was fantastic. This was a great place to base our dive trip. However, the place has definitely seen better days. This is a "tired" resort that could use some TLC. My room was above the main lobby and overlooked the pool and beach. The view was great with a nice balcony. It had seen better days with the walls and fixtures looking quite worn. The towel bars had quite a bit of corrosion and the bathroom ceiling was water stained and dirty. Two of our group had to request new rooms due to non-functioning and/or broken fixtures. At supper, there were typically 3 restaurants open although there were some additional places at the adjacent Sabor resort. However, the restaurants are small with maybe 15-20 tables. This led to long line-ups. The food was great at all of the restaurants. A newsletter was delivered to the room but was inaccurate. For example, the Sky Bar was listed as open each day. However, it was only open for 4 days in the week. Bring bug spray! At sunset the sand fleas and mosquitoes are relentless. Any outdoor restaurants were non-starters without repellent. I would not go back to this place.
