The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter.  The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday.  The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized and non-motorized watersports may be banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted  (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to non-native persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced

These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

    Avoid it

    Trust the bad reviews. Not eatable food. No good service. Rooms are smelly. Dirty restaurant floors, food safety is absent. Except few employees the most of them they don’t wanna work. Reception and check in is like a playground sometimes. Not professional

    Amazing resort! A Must see !!

    The bed was so comfortable I slept like a baby. The ac didn’t work the best but with the fan it was comfortable. Our house keeper Sonia was the sweetest lady, and made us towel swans, and kept our place spotless! She was so pleasant to talk to and went out of her way to get us an umbrella for the rain. Ruth and basilio in concierge were welcoming and informative! We loved chatting with them! The resort is huge with many things happening all the time, all of the restaurants staff were accommodating and welcoming! Everyone is always so hard at work keeping the grounds clean and working in perfect shape! 10/10 would recommend!

    Hidden Gem with Some Room for Improvement

    This property is a hidden gem that, despite not being perfect, offered many positives that outweighed the cons, contributing to an amazing week-long vacation. Pros: Staff and Service: The staff were exceptionally accommodating, polite, and helpful at all times. Crystal and Jillizza from Guest Services did their best to make us happy. Maria at the buffet, La Palapa, greeted us every morning and lunch with a smile and a beautiful red hibiscus, adding a lovely touch. Julissa and Ilma, also from La Palapa, ensured our coffee cups were filled, our plates were cleared, and that we were happy. Down by the beach, Juan kept the area spotless, meticulously maintaining the chairs and day beds. Francesca at the Chill Out Bar in the privileged area always made our drinks with a smile. The staff's kindness and attention to detail made a significant impact on our stay. Beach and Pool: The beach was spectacular! The water was shallow and warm, and you could walk out into the ocean for at least a mile while still having your head above water. The sunrises were incredible. The pool area was also great; we often spent the last half hour of our day there before going to our room. Wildlife and Grounds: The grounds were full of wildlife, with peaceful mornings filled with the songs of owls and woodpeckers, and pelicans swooping over the ocean. We saw crabs, turtles, turkeys, cats, dogs, and many bird species, all living harmoniously with the resort's visitors. It was a delight to see them in their natural habitat. Food: The food was delightful, with a wide variety of options available at all the restaurants. We even enjoyed a romantic dinner on the beach. There was something for everyone. Cons: Room Quality: The rooms were where the resort fell short. Our first room, on the main level in a renovated section, had a weak AC, a broken fridge, missing bathroom hooks, and a broken safe. Crystal from Guest Services helped relocate us to a second-floor room in the same block, which was an improvement, but still had issues. There were inconsistencies between rooms, such as missing face cloths, a hair dryer, and toiletries. One of the showerheads sprayed water in every direction except straight, although the other worked fine. Additionally, the bathroom had a funky stench, but it was contained. On a positive note, the room was dry, and we did not go home smelling like mold, which was a first. Cash for Tips: We wished the front desk kept small denominations of cash on hand in DOP. We wanted to spread tips around but needed change, and the front desk could not accommodate us. Keeping $100 and $50 peso bills on hand would have allowed us to be more generous to more people. Overall Experience: Overall, Catalonia was a great place to visit. The people, the food, the wildlife, and the beach, along with the onsite golf, made it a memorable place to call home for a week or two. Next time, we will try the adults-only section and know what to request at check-in to ensure we are not disappointed. Final Thoughts: To the staff of Catalonia Golf and Beach Resort in Punta Cana, thank you! Your job must be very challenging, dealing with demanding people all day long, but you did great.     So not stay here

    1 Start Overall was not satisfied with the service at this hotel. Upgraded our room to get all the cool perks to be left high and dry. 24 hr room service not available, fresh towels delivered to the room had to ask myself. Went to speak to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager (Jonas) informed me that managers have their schedule and don’t work past 5. Jonas made no attempt to change how I felt. I asked him if there is an emergency who responded and he didn’t say anything. After expressing that I haven’t ate and was confused you think he helped me not!! I’m in my room eating snacks. Spend your money at the other chains.

    TUI and Catalonia Bavaro scam - Mould infested room, Bad service, pitiful compensation.

    First night we unpacked as it was late and went to eat then straight to bed. I unpacked everything into the wardrobe quickly as we were knackered. It was until next morning we started to notice the mould around.. alot of our clothes were ruined as the mould ridden wardrobe had left its smell all over them. (We ended up having our clothes packed in suitcases whole stay) The cleaner came. Cleaned the floor changed the sheets AND LEFT THE MOULD for the next 2 days We complained and they came to check it out...wardrobe, bathroom, headboards to bed, walls, door frames, ear buds, sugar packets .. you name it it was FULL of mould. They started cleaning on 3rd day, we were in room when they started cleaning and I thought it best to leave as they said nothing to us, we sat outside for a few hours. The cleaners left and didn't say anything to us. We went to check the room and all doors windows were closed and vents were off. The smell of chemicals was overpowering and we had to open all and stay outside. Still they hadn't got Rid of the mould it was still under all the sinks and above shower, wardrobe was out of use as it smelt so bad and mould still in there. Over the next week my wife had to clean some herself as nothing was getting cleaned properly with some cleaning stuff she found left outside the room. Nearly every day we would have something wrong like no towels or no floor towels or fridge not stocked up and I'm just assuming it's because of the complaint. Even reception called up asked me if we need anything I said towels and they didn't bring any. On day of leaving we asked if its possible for help with our suitcases and the receptionist just grunted and pointed in a direction of people, in the end just did it all ourselves BE very careful when you book with this hotel, the service is aweful, the staff are rude (unless you tip) and it really wasn't worth the £3k I payed for this family holiday TUI have been in touch and told me the hotel offered me £150 compensation and I said that's not good enough and he told me it's already what they've accepted sorry. a joke of a company and a joke of a hotel DO NOT BOOK WITH TUI
