    Never again

Was not informed regarding remodel of pool which was noisy and not relaxing. I called multiple times regarding my bill which went to VM regarding charges that were inaccurate i.e. children's buffet, towels not returned, etc. Hotel phone kept us up at night making low charge alert. We unhooked the phone and brought it to front desk and they told my wife that we didn't charge it correctly?? Seriously? Restaurant food was below average for Hyatt. I've stayed at multiple Hyatt hotels and resorts and this was my worst experience. I am informing the medical conference to look for a different site since I will not return. Never again.

Pool Situation Explained + A Fantastic Hotel

Came April 4-8 and after spending way too many hours reading about the pool situation, if the grotto bar was going to still be closed, about the waterslides being closed, about all the construction, I almost decided to opt for the Hyatt Kauai instead. But we didn’t, came to Maui and had a fabulous time. But for those of you (like me) all stressed out by what’s going on with the pool situation, this review is for you. Plus I added super helpful pics to explain. Pools: there are 2 pools on the main property + 3rd next door at the Hyatt residences you can use. We did that one only once. As for the two here, the main one is just large. Great for typical pool fun. No slides here though. The second pool was our favorite by a long shot. The design is set amidst rocks, has a fantastic little kid area and big kid/adult area, waterfall you can go in (small) and a small slide and large tube slide. The two pools USED to be connected via the swim thru grotto bar but that’s not the case any longer. To go from the main pool to the 2nd, you gotta walk around the pathway along the ocean. It’s not far, but the whole time you’re wondering two things: 1) how cool it would be if they had the grotto bar open and you could swim thru; and 2) why in the world to they have the shorter pathway closer near the main hotel - this one connects the pools with a short walk thru foliage and then across a suspension bridge. Super cool but they have it roped off due to construction, which is fine if there was construction going on in that area. But I didn’t see any signs of it, so it was sad they didn’t just open this route up. I have a pic explaining this. 2) Grotto bar: it’s closed. It’s been closed. It isn’t going to reopen anytime soon. From what I learned, this grotto bar used to have waterfalls on each side you would swim under. Amazing. I also understand it’s been the signature attraction of the hotel for decades. Like 40 years. But they had to shut it down. I don’t know why but best I understood is to repair the structure. I was so hopeful it would be open by the time we came in April but after looking at the construction, it’s faaaaaaaarrrr from being done. Sorry all. You’ll be fine though, don’t cancel because of this. I will say to Hyatt - you MUST being the grotto back! Please don’t shut it forever. Also please open the shorter pathway to the bridge! 3) Waterslides: they are not shut down. I understand the larger tube slide was for a bit to repair it, but it’s been open for about a month now. All good. 4) Construction: no biggie. We came over a weekend and they don’t work weekends so it was chill. Didn’t really phase us. Otherwise we had a great vacay here and would recommend. The staff was great too and appreciative of guests coming especially after the fire. Thanks for a good trip Hyatt! OPEN THE GROTTO! OPEN THE SHORT PATHWAY!! BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, please please please bring back the grotto!!

Fantastic hotel for families & great hotel for Hyatt points redemption

Beginning of August 2023 we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. I'm globalist with Hyatt and we used points for our 3 day stay. We also used a suite upgrade voucher. We had an excellent stay at the Hyatt. We had a suite overlooking the ocean and woke up with the sound of the waves. Fantastic! The pool was great for our 2 kids (11 and 13 years old) and we enjoyed the walk in the evening next to the ocean when the sun went down. The kids also enjoyed the lounge which provided lots of opportunities during the day to grab a cookie! After the Hyatt we also went for 3 days to the Andaz Wailea, but we preferred the Hyatt; it's more laid back, and the rooms and the pool is nicer!

    Beautiful resort

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Penguins and parrots in the lobby! Multiple pools, hot tubs and slides! Fun activities like lei making and ukelele lessons! Friendly staff. Expensive restaurants but the Regency Club was great for breakfast and hors d'oevres.

    When expectations are consistently exceeded.

I'll start by saying simply that our stay was beyond excellent and there are many reason why. Yes the Hyatt is a bit on the higher end price wise and yes this was something i did consider, but i have no problem saying that it was absolutely worth every penny. Now the reasons.... 1. Service level from the front counter, to the restaurants, to the pool side servers to the cleaning personnel for our room. Every person we interacted with was friendly, helpful and thorough with their specific role on the property. We never struggled to find help on the few occasions we needed it and never felt intrusive when we engaged each person. Need more pillows? No problem, we had them within minutes. Not sure where to get beach chairs and an umbrella? Let me not just tell you, I will walk you to them. These small things made us feel like wanted guests. It was beyond refreshing. 2. The property was immaculate, smelled wonderful and was full of small little things like water filling stations all over the building. We were able to keep our water bottles full at all times because around each corner was another station of ice-cold water. The towel stations worked without issue and our room was beyond clean and well put together. We really loved the wristband setup to access the elevators, our room and other things on the property rather than pulling out a keycard. Pool bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Pool chairs and over all access was never a problem. The grounds were simply excellent with several on property stores with everything you could need that you may have forgotten at home. 3. Food. The restaurants were all great. We ate at Japengo, Umalu, Swan Court and ordered from Son’z. Our package included breakfast at Swan Court each morning and the selection was fantastic each day with slight variations on what was served at the buffet with some everyday items always available. 4. Value. For us the cost was worth it simply because everything was top notch. Nothing was half done and it was reflected all over the resort. 5. Parking is something to consider in your budget as even the public parking is $25 a day but this is the same all over the island so it was something we just built in to our budget. WE LOVED THIS PROERTY AND WILL RETURN!
