A quiet oasis in Cuba!!
At the end of our trip, we were delayed flying home by a day due to an ice storm in Canada. We were shuttled to a nearby resort in Varadero around 2am to get some rest. Unbeknownst to me and my fellow travellers in the front of the bus there would be no rest. The back of the bus was filled with the most arrogant, drunk partygoers I’ve ever met! You might ask why I am telling you about the end of our trip, and that is because it wasn’t until that 35 minute ride from hell that I realized how peaceful our time at Memories Jibacoa had been!!! Although the resort is an older crowd, typically 55+, all of the fellow travellers were so respectful! The beach is gorgeous, and the surrounding mountain is stunning! A special thanks to our maid JUJU, she went above and beyond. A few other shoutouts to amazing bartenders: Ariana, Adiramy’s and Alizaida. Also special thanks to our server Yoandra who was super personable and sweet. Only one negative encounter with a lady at the front desk, Mary/Maria, but we all have bad days! Thanks to Kiki for being so attentive and understanding! Loved the entertainment too! Thanks again Memories!
This was our first visit to MJ (we have been to Cuba at least 15 times) and we will go back because the pace was wonderfully relaxed: plenty of palapas, wonderful staff, adults only and the a la cartes restaurants were great. We opted for the Diamond Club and enjoyed the lobster dinner at The Ranchon along with the late check out, the Italian restaurant for breakfasts and some lunches. Also, we went to The Tower for dinner. Yendris from DC made the reservation. The owner picks you up at the hotel - he cooks with his chefs, serves your table, sings with his 2 musicians and drives you back...fun night for 15CUC. We also went to El Cacique up the road, also very good for 20CUC. Across from this restaurant, there is a couple who makes hats - she measures your head and your hat will be ready the next day. Her husband has very limited eye sight so he does the weaving (5CUC). What I really enjoyed at Memories was the nightly music in the lobby. The musicians did not play at your table (same at the a la cartes) but of course, you can make a donation. The piano bar and staff was our choice location for "one for the road". Oraylis is one of the bar tenders who sings, whistles and seems to have as much fun as the guests. Also, Yendris from Diamond Club was great to solve a few issues very quickly. The only thing I could suggest is to add more hand soap during the day to the bathrooms closest to the beach. We had hot water every morning, clean room, cold beer and a good time.
First impression of hotel is basic rooms but it’s Cuba you soon adjust to your surroundings. Staff are friendly and all love to join in with dancing from cleaners to management. Entertainment is fantastic lots to do if you want to , recommend hike with Mike if you want a gentler walk try the walk not the hike. Night shows are superb very talented group of dancers. It can be chilly so take a jacket or wrap as shows are outside. We had diamond club status so had waiter service on the beach Senea was exceptional always attentive and always with a smile.
An escape to the sun
My husband and I have just spent three very enjoyable weeks of r and r at the hotel. It is set on a wonderful palm fringed beach in gardens which are beautifully maintained. The pool was good too and we did not see one mosquito in all that time! The rooms are not luxurious but are spacious and clean and everything worked well. The staff are friendly and the Manager is excellent. He is visible all day long about the place chatting to visitors and advising staff and even joining in the singing and dancing! He ensures the hotel has a really friendly, family atmosphere, One of the best beach holidays we have had but also in striking distance of Havana and other interesting places The music and entertainment were excellent and the pina colada the best we have ever tasted anywhere in the world!
Great time with excellent friends
Excellent place for a vacation, I had the best time ever with my friends. The resort was clean, food was good, the entertainment was awesome. Everyday there was something to do. The ocean was beautiful did some snorkeling. The staff was very friendly. We went to Havana for a day and our tour guide and taxi driver were the best, our taxi was the Havana Club the driver was Andy and our tour guide was Lainer she was awesome I would recommend asking for them and they will take you anywhere you want to go. I will be going back next year.
