Over-promise and under-deliver
We stayed 2 nights in the Ocean Tower February 2020. There were fun features, but they were overshadowed by many disappointments. Overall, it wasn't worth the money and I wouldn't stay again unless the cost was dramatically reduced or if they heated pools, fixed slides, and either reduced food prices or improved food quality and offerings. To start off 1. resort fee is $20-50 depending on which site you book on 2. parking is $33 (self park) or $39 (valet) per day, 3. Food is exorbitant. Example: $7.50 for a scone, breakfast oatmeal $16. Other food is underwhelming (hot buffalo cauliflower vs a cold wrap would improve. Chicken tenders, pizza, and pastries were ok. Most things were too sweet). 4. Restaurants only open limited hours. 5. We paid extra for a ocean view room, got put on the ground floor where we couldn't see it much. 6. POOLS ARE NOT HEATED so while they are bearable when you're moving, you can't lounge in them and kids complain and start shivering quickly 7. few connecting bridges so long, unnecessary walks 8. only one or two boats going at a time 9. slow tram 10. INTERNET IN ROOM DOESN'T WORK 11. hot tubs only at very southern pool 12. worn beach/pool loungers push bars into your back 13. many slides do not slide 14. difficult to monitor kids in winding pools 15. dolphins kept in small area Benefits 1) one great slide and one good slide 2) novelty of tram/boat 3) great walks along the waterfront 4) fun, protected ocean lagoon 5) beautiful artwork 6) beginning 'ukulele class offered with some other fitness and cultural classes 7) hammocks 8) many pools and lounge areas so you can usually find a spot 9) fun waterfalls to walk under/behind 10) beautiful grounds 11) decor is nice 12) bed and pillows are comfortable (pull out couch ok for kids). When the internet wasn't working, I had to go to the lobby (no plug for laptops) to get my work done. While there, I heard the steady stream of complaints from 6 guests with similar experiences. Common overheard phrases "false advertising" "xxx not working" etc.
Good but not great...
This was the last leg of our 2 weeks island hopping and was the worst!!...From waiting 30 min at the registration desk to get checked in a 4pm to being told we had to wait another 10-15 min as our room was not ready and having to wait another 30min in line as no one came to advise us after 20 min that our room was ready so now we were over 1h wait to finally get our room...and this after 4pm...not like we were there early....then asking for a late check out and being told 11am is the latest we can check out?? Funny how the room wasn't ready at 4pm when we must vacate the room this early?? Anyways...then they don't even have a plug in the lobby to charge any devices...so I know its not the hotel fault that we had a late flight but unfortunately there are lots of international flights leaving late from Kona...They have an hospitality suite but for platinum and vacation owners only...we are Hilton Honnors...it should count!!...We were staying in the Ocean tower and rooms needs a facelift..its ok but not wow!! Rooms have a mini fridge and coffee maker we had partial ocean view and golf view but they were doing construction right below our room so we couldn't hear ourselves talking... Pools are freezing yes its true...and birds are out early in the morning...it didn't border us too much as we are early risers...Breakfast or just coffee is very expensive on the resort like 5$ for a coffee and 9$ for a smoothie and 40$ for a breakfast buffet...if you don't have any kids...I wouldn't recommend this resort...there are kids everywhere...some well behaved and others...well not the kids fault I guess....
Business Travelers Stay Away! There should be special points bonus to justify a stay
This was the worst Hilton Experience I've had in a long time. I'm a Hilton Diamond member and picked this hotel to collect the reward points. I arrived at 9pm at the hotel and just wanted to go to sleep. I walk up the front desk behind the valet car drop off and am told - sorry - I can wait 15 minutes for a Tram or walk 10 minutes to the Hilton Towers front Desk. Ugh. At the Checkin - they forgot 2 free water bottles promised as part of Diamond and I had to walk back from my room to get them. Note: The first front desk person told me to go to the Concierge (who was gone for the day) and another front desk person had a cabinet full of bottle water. In the morning, I requested the 2pm late provided by AARP code but was told, sorry no such thing because this property is not really a Hilton property but they could extend to 12 noon because I was diamond. I explained the Hilton website where I made the reservation offers the AARP 2pm late check out AND the Hilton resevation agent promised it last night on the phone. The agent then made special one time exception. I asked about my free Diamond Breakfast or atleast free coffee. I was told no Free Breakfast and no Coffee - Again this Hilton is not really part of the Hilton chain. $40 resort fee - I have an Amex Aspire card which will cover this fee - but was hoping to get free coffee. At 3 am a group of loud birds started signing and this combined with the maintenance crews pushing large metal towel carts across the courtyard woke me up every 30 minutes until things quieted down at 7 am. Service seems lacking everywhere - The two times I called from the room I get forwarded to another line (which invariably rings forever or goes to VM). The property is in a beautiful location and if traveling with a family might be worth it but business travelers should think twice
Resort of the Highest Quality
Everything you can imagine in a resort. The locals call it Disney World of the island. Pools are fabulous, plenty of hot tubs, including an adults-only one. A pool bar, first rate restaurant for watching the sunset. They even have their own dolphins.
This place is really nice ! Trams going around the resort . Boats going from hotel to hotel to shops . Beautiful place , but some might not like it because it is so big ! But the scenery is great . They have a lagoon you can snorkel and kayak in that has turtles in it they also hav dolphins.and a golf course . We went to the Legends of Hawaii Luau . That was really great !
