If you like going in ocean go elsewhere
Property and food 5 star, entertainment and beach 4 star, but lots of rock in ocean here make it dangerous to walk out and enjoy ocean 3 stars.Lots of animals wandering around property and good transportation provided to get between all the 3 resorts. Bridges crossing over lagoon, a little dangerous and a pain to deal with.
A perfect venue for a wedding!
This is a beautiful property. It is clean, staff friendly and helpful, food excellent, a great gym and the spa is amazing. The pool and pool area stunning - and never a problem getting a chair. Sometimes a little patience and understanding is required on the part of guests - it is a very large property (four resorts together) and it would be impossible to keep things running smoothly 100% of the time. Staff work very very hard. I want to thank Grace and staff at Palladium Weddings. Their service is outstanding. We could not have picked a more perfect property to host our daughter's wedding. Grace was so kind - always patiently answering my pestering questions. Every detail was taken care of to perfection. We have so many beautiful memories. I'd also like to thank Venus, our very special bartender. He is amazing. Thank you to Daniel, Dan, Abraham and April for the pool activities. The pool spin class rocks!!!! We loved the lobby bar and ended our evenings there - thank you to the bar staff!!! It was a wonderful vacation and I definitely recommend.
Very nice hotel
We had 2 rooms in villa 56, rooms overlooking the main pool, which I had requested via TUI and I also e-mailed the hotel. Superb location in the hotel overlooking the pool, a short walk to the beach and also the restaurants. The pool was huge but freezing - once you are in it's OK but the initial shock takes your breathe away! There was always sunbeds available and the waitresses were constantly walking around to bring you drinks it you couldn't make it to the bar. The White Sands was quiet, which was just what we wanted - things going on but no loud groups of people. We ate at most of the restaurants as you can eat at the restaurants at the Colonial and Kantenah too. There was plenty of choice at the buffet restaurants - we generally went to La Daliha at the White Sands. The staff were always happy and polite. The only thing I would say is that the food is not hot enough. Whilst I can understand it at a buffet restaurant, even the "sit-down" restaurants weren't hot enough. The beach is nice, however quite rocky once you get in the water. There was no problem with sargussum apart from one day when the sea was really rough, however the staff do come out to clean . I really would recommend beach shoes. The room cleaning/restocking is a bit hit and miss. One the first day we had 6 large, 2 small and 3 face towels, however towards the end of the stay we were down to 1 large and 3 face cloths. Not a huge thing but really, how hard can it be to replace towels? Our room had the bathroom separate to the sleeping area and it was all of a really good size. There are USB charging points, fridge with soft drinks and a coffee maker. The iron and ironing board were a bonus - no ironing on towels on a table!! We arranged a sea fishing trip with the Dive Club on the beach at the Colonial - not included in the price but we paid $380 USD for a 4 hour fishing trip - for a small boat that was suitable for 4 people. The gym is free to use and was well equipped - it's in the Zentropia Spa which is not free - didn't use the Spa myself whilst there so can't comment on it. Lots of wildlife around the hotel - in fact the racoons made a visit to the White Sands lobby bar whilst we were there. Under 18 so they wouldn't serve them. :) There are little golf carts that run between the hotels as it is a huge site. You can get on them at each of the lobbys, however even if you are walking about the staff will stop and ask if you want a ride. I was a bit unsure on tipping, but didn't feel obliged once to tip, although I did. The ATM at White Sands and Kantenah is Santander which issues pesos but word or warning - they were both out of order for a lot of the time there so I would suggest to err on the side of caution and bring cash with you rather than rely on the ATM in the hotel. The ATM in the Colonial issues US dollars and charges you a hefty whack for the privilege. Annoying, but if you need the cash, you have no option. I would go back to the White Sands, and it would be this hotel rather than the busier Colonial and Kantenah.
First time there...and our last
The beach was too rocky, really large rocks, making it difficult to get into the water. The food on the buffet, unless it was make to order, was lukewarm to cold, no matter when you went. The selection of desserts however was wonderful. Staff are attentive and friendly. Ribs and More restaurant was very good. Best thing about the resort is it is quiet. Never had trouble finding a chair by the pool. Waitress service was amazing...thanks Maria! Stayed in a romantic bungalow which was "dated". Maid service was erratic, ended up with 5 bath towels by the end of the trip, but no tissue for 3 straight days. Glasses weren't changed twice. Outdoor shower was nice, when it was warm enough outside and there was hot water! Stayed at a Palladium in Jamaica and this one did not compare.
Ismail, our waiter at Ribs and more was fantastic!! Extremely professional and polite and so accommodating to any of our requests. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was fine and did it so cheerfully with a smile. He definitely deserves recognition for his hard work and great service!
