Lovely Romantic Break
My wife and I recently stayed at Villamil Hotel in Paguera, Majorca to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary. The hotel is right in the middle of the small town which unfortunately is rather “touristy” but close enough to Palma and other small towns if you want to travel away from the resort This hotel has recently been acquired by AM Resorts who have a number of brands principally in the Caribbean and Mexico. We have stayed at their adults-only resort in Maroma Beach Mexico on a number of occasions and wanted to try out the European version - we were not disappointed Obviously the format was different but the quality of the fabric of the hotel was lovely coupled with its amazing history which is beautifully portrayed through a photographic display across the decades since the 1950’s. The food particularly in the fine-dining Seaside Grill was superb and also the quality and range of choices in the World Cafe both at breakfast and dinner were delicious. The service was excellent and the staff delightfully attentive The pool and beach are very good. The only small downside was the quality of equipment in the gymnasium but hopefully this will now be addressed by the new management I don’t think we would recommend the resort in high season but during spring and the autumn it is well worth the relatively high cost. We experienced the fully inclusive “Unlimited Experience” package and this is genuinely all-in with premium wines and spirits and the full a la carte menu in the Seaside Grill. The only extras re if you select different wines For a romantic break…….well worth a look!
Great honeymoon location!
We started our honeymoon here and it was lovely! Great location- you can walk everywhere. The pool and view was great. Our room was spacious and they had roses and champagne and candies for us! The food was delicious and the drinks by the pool were great. Everyone was very helpful. On our last day we were renting a car and driving to a different area of the island and they helped us place a reservation for an automatic car which we picked up down the road the next morning. And they picked a great rental place for us. We had an amazing time!!
5 star Hotel ...... really???
We arrived expecting a wonderful luxury pampering visit to a Hotel with Such great reviews. What we got was a bit of everything. We booked a suite with BA Holidays but were told No but we had been upgraded to a suite....... We were in room 19 we were told the ”second best suite in the Hotel” .... the rooms were spacious and had it’s own jacuzzi bath on the veranda and ample outdoor south facing space. Sadly for us our next door room neighbours were chain smokers..... all day and it was constant! Yuk!!! I am sad to say the Wi-fi in our room for a 5 star hotel was a disgrace there was just no downloads.....the staff tried...oh boy did they try after initially saying we can’t do anything until Monday this was on Thursday night....new routers etc were tried no matter what, it failed !!.. Senior Manager Nina was a complete joy so KEAN to help, but no matter how much they all huffed and puffed the Wi-fi was still awful.......In 2019 this is just not acceptable for a 5 Star Hotel. On the plus side the food was generally very good, an ample choice in the morning and the A la Carte restaurant was entertaining and the food very good in the evening. Question... Why do hotels never have black pepper grinders that work......😂😂😂 The seaside Grill’s manager went out of his way to get a new pepper mill for us!👏👏👏 Thank you!! The gym and spa opening hours were odd. 10am until 4pm if you wanted to go to the gym earlier you had to sign a disclaimer! The hotel had a strict no bagging of sun-loungers policy. 😂😂 What rubbish!! The pool was surrounded by sun loungers and by 9.00am every morning the towels were out in full force...... don’t wait to be invited get up and get your lounger bagged if that’s what you like! The beach in front of the hotel was more like Blackpool on a hot summers day, if it’s peace and quiet you are after this hotel beach is not for you. However, the beach was sandy and sea water a good temperature and a nice gentle slope out to deeper water but sadly just soooo many people even in late September! Finally I have to commend all the Staff who were all excellent, from the smiley room cleaners to the charming reception ladies and gents. Well done👏👏👏👏 great job. Thank you all. All in all, I would give this hotel a good 4 Stars but definitely NOT 5.
Lovely Family Holiday
We stayed at Secrets Villamil Hotel for 10 days in July and from the moment we were picked up from the airport in the chauffeur driven car arranged by the hotel we were looking forward to our stay there. The check in was trouble free and the staff were very attentive. Our rooms were fabulous, we had paid for the prestige experience which did not disappoint. We were relaxed from start to finish and the fantastic staff, the maids, reception, waiters, waitresses, bar, pool attendants were so attentive and made our stay even better, thank you everyone. The only slight criticisms I observed were that I would have expected another a la carte restaurant as well as the one already there, which was open only a few days a week. It is a fantastic 5 star hotel however I feel that this would be a great asset as many of the restaurants outside are not what you would expect in an area where a 5 star hotel would be. Saying that we did our homework and found a handful of fantastic restaurants tucked away which I hope to go back to! Also the evening buffet was disappointing, a very restricted choice and for such a lovely hotel having a limited choice of restaurants outside of it I would have thought that this would be a real asset to have. In my opinion I think people staying at the hotel would rather eat at the hotel’s restaurants if there was a variety, like many other hotels of this rating and standard. That said, we had a lovely family holiday and thank you to all at the Villamil, we hope to see you all again soon.
You Could NOT Pay Us To Stay Here again!
. A private charted jet, free limousine transfers, a suite as big as Buckingham Palace, food cooked personally by Alain Ducasse, would not make us return to this place. There’s not really anything wrong with this hotel if you want a 3 star hotel, and are happy with 3 star standards, and appreciate mediocre 3 star level staff, and enjoy staying in a ugly tacky tourist tat of a town full of pram-pushers and weight-watchers. I assure you, Peguera is U-G-L-Y! The BIG issue we have is that Secrets, Villamil, is a hotel pretending to be 5 star hotel and is charging 5 star prices, but cannot deliver anything remotely near a 5 star establishment. I strongly believe not a single person working in this dump has ever had the opportunity to stay at, and experience, a true 5 star hotel. This is a hotel of lies ! We are still wondering why the hotel goes by the ridiculous name Secrets. Perhaps it’s a secret that it’s not a 5 star hotel ? We had booked a suite and had opted for their Preferred Class level of experience. Upon arrival the receptionist demanded full payment up front. I was later informed it was because they presumed we had booked via Booking.com and that people who used that site often did not have much of a credit allowance on their credit cards. Can you believe that ? As it happens, we had booked directly with the hotel. The suite was decorated with corporate cheap furniture. There was nothing remotely inviting or luxurious or of any quality in the rooms or its furnishings. Ugly old windowless bathrooms, with dated fixtures and fittings from the 1970’s. A timewarp of ugliness. A silly iPad type contraption is in the room which announces ‘Gourmet Dining - endless gourmet restaurant options” That’s a lie. In the evening there’s a horrible charmless canteen-like buffet which closes at 9.30pm. Is it catering for pensioners in an old folks retirement home? There is an a la carte restaurant, but that’s only open part of the week, and you could play tennis in the room and not hit a single person, it's that empty. There’s another stupid meaningless phrase the hotel uses - “Unlimited LUXURY - more than just a phrase.” What does it mean ? There was absolutely nothing luxurious about the hotel at all, limited or unlimited. It’s little more than a glorified motel. If you’ve paid for the Preferred Class option you are given a separate sunbathing area. This turned out to be little more than a square of astroturf with loungers with dirty covers. And if you wanted sit on one of the Bali beds you were asked to pay an additional 35 Euros. Also, take note, the website photos try to give a chic look by having the Bali beds by the pool. That’s completely false advertising. There are NO Bali beds by the pool. The unremarkable hotel grounds have silly music speakers disguised as rocks playing naff music around the pool and garden, it’s like something out of The Flinstones. No sophisticated luxury hotel in the World subjects its paying guests to constant naff music. Considering the size of the hotel it has a tiny swimming pool. I hate to think what it would be like when full. The air conditioning never worked correctly. It was impossible to change the settings. Dishonest photos on the website do not reflect the reality at all. We felt utterly conned. Originally the hotel showed the Preferred Club lounge in a photo .. sofas, armchairs, muted colours, a library. Much of what you would expect at a decent Club lounge at a good hotel. Yet this was another lie. The reality was a horrible brightly lit white room suitable for a psychiatric patient, with hard Ikea type table and chairs. We cross examined the manager about the false advertising, and she had no idea what room had been used on the hotel website. That just goes to show how connected the staff are to the place they are working in. They updated the website after we complained about the lies. Also, the Preferred Club comes with “a butler” who will take care of all your needs such as unpacking your belongings. They are little more than a pesky epicene waiter. To prove my point, they also help clear the tables at breakfast in the ugly World Cafe canteen. Bizarrely they announced "I am not like the butlers you have in England". That soon became obvious. Butlers are supposed to be discreet. This one was the opposite. One morning at breakfast I asked the egg station chef for some scrambled eggs. His reply “You can take them from the buffet”. I informed him I did not want the cold congealed readymade scrambled eggs that had been sat for 2 hours under one of those silly heat lamps, and wanted freshly made eggs. His response was “they taste the same.” What right does an egg station chef have to tell the guest what they must eat ? Deplorable ! So, just in case I’ve not made it clear. We HATED this place. It was hideous. In the many years of going to Mallorca and staying at wonderful, sophisticated and luxurious grand hotels and boutique hotels, this was the worst place we have ever stayed at on the island. And quite rightly the hotel is situated in a complete dump of a town. The hotel and its environment match each other perfectly. I can only imagine that this hotel is aiming to attract the coarse drunken Magaluf clientele when they get a little older. The only redeeming feature is that it's adults only. But I wont be surprised at all if that does not last. It will never pull in a sophisticated high spending 5 star crowd. Everything about the hotel and its location are wrong for an upmarket standard of tourist looking for something elegant, sophisticated and cultured. This is little better than Benidorm. .
