Hotel On The Cay, St. Croix USVI- a lovely visit
I just returned from an all-too-brief, 3 night stay at Hotel On The Cay, USVI. The location of the hotel is perfect - near downtown activities, shops, eateries, historic sites. The views of Christiansted from my room balcony were stupendous. The room amenities were perfect to my needs as a lone traveller (kitchenette w/micro, toaster oven, fridge). The staff was pleasant and helpful. The 5 minute ride to and from the Cay on the complimentary water taxi (provided 24/7 for hotel guests) made the stay that much more unique and special. Lovely spot for snorkeling and diving. Loads of photo ops of wild life on the Cay. Splendid. I look forward to vacationing there again in future.
Bucket List....the Cay
The staff and beach were amazing. It was under construction but is well on it's way to be great again!! Would highly recommend!! Snorkeling was a daily adventure for us and all we had to do was walk from our chair to the water!!
Hotel on the Cay is a Special Experience!
The Hotel is fun. You travel to and from the Hotel on the Hotel's motor launch, which runs continuously. The rooms have magnificent views of the harbor and ocean and are nice, with refrigerators, microwaves and toaster ovens. The hotel decor is dated, but that doesn't really matter. However, there are two issues. The first is that the mattresses are in desperate need of replacement. Ours sagged and was very uncomfortable. Second, most of the published telephone numbers for the hotel do not work after 4pm or on weekends when many people check in. Be sure to find the direct front desk number before you go, and also call and get specific instructions on how to find the boat dock. Its not obvious and can be distressing if you are wandering around with suitcases trying to find it. We had a great time and highly recommend staying there.
Amazing snorkeling time
This hotel is perfect if you want to escape from your daily stress. You need to take a boat that is complementary for the guests. The boat ride is about 1 minute and then you arrive at paradise. When you arrive at the property you are welcomed by a lot of fishies at the dock. The lobby is ok but the staff is very attentive and very helpful with recommendations. Room is ok nothing fancy just that what you need to spend a few nights. The room includes microwave, toast, refrigerator and safe box. The view from our balcony is amazing. They have a pool but most of the time is empty because people prefer the beach instead. Don't forget to explore the hotel grounds because that hotel was a fort in the 1700's theres a lot of story to know. At the moment they don't offer breakfast but you can take the boat and get breakfast at the main island. They do a good BBQ smoke lunch and dinner in the property restaurants and don't worry about the prices because they're not high. Please don't forget to bring your snorkel equipment because the hotel is a cay so you are going to see a lot of fishies and turtles too. We saw two turtles during our snorkeling time.
One roach, minimal amenities, soft bed & good pillows. Views and critters cool to watch. Ferry operators awesome and helpful. Other staff nice as well. Very quiet. Not fancy, but it was a good stay. Try the bbq when there, it was great.
