Turks and Caicos is home to one of the longest barrier reefs in the world - over 125 miles long. The barrier reef is an ideal spot to observe humpback whales, and with underwater visibility exceeding 100 feet in most locations, the coral reefs, sea mounts, and sea walls that surround the islands are perfect for encountering schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, eagle rays, and even sharks. Vacation here and experience firsthand the wonders of this ecosystem.

Great location Poor Service
My family and I stayed here recently for 6 days. Here is the good: The location is great at the far end of a string of hotels. If you want to avoid those crowds this is the place for you. The grounds are nice and immaculate and having a full kitchen is nice to make breakfast and lunch. There is a grocery store close by and many stores and restaurants are close. Now for the downside: We had an identical front desk experience as a previous commenter. The room was not ready at 3pm and the front desk staff was surly and unwelcoming. They need some serious training here. The service at the restaurant was super slow but the food was decent. The beach staff was constantly out of towels and was extremely unhelpful unless of course you want to book a trip. Save yourself the hassle and just book online or negotiate with the beach vendors. We will be back but just not to the Sands.
First time visitor in November
November 18/25. Short ride from airport to this resort. Upon our arrival the front desk didn't even acknowledge us at all after Bernard unloaded our baggage. It wasn't like they were busy at all. One bigger gal just sat on the phone, no conversation just sat there. We noticed this quite a few times when we would walk through the lobby, she sat never moved always had a phone in her ear. The other gal was helping someone when she finished she didn't acknowledge us at all. I just stood there like do you see me? am I invisible or what? A couple minutes passed so I just went up and said Hi I am checking in, I felt like I was a problem. My room was not ready shouldn't be long. We went down checked out the beach, came back and was told unknown when room would be ready. I was dying of thirst by then found some infused water that was not cold and needed to be replenished. So we sat then went and walked around some more came back to the lobby 30 min later was told unk, but bldg. 3 would be where we would be. I told the desk that we just saw house keeping in 3. The desk called into a room, no answer (guess why the phone doesn't work cause we got that room) so they sent Bernard. Bernard came back he could not find housekeeping. Long story short we did get our room about 1 hr after arrival. Bernard the bell hop was very informative and fun! We had more than one interaction with him during the stay just in passing. He should run the front desk. Moving on, we did get the studio garden (phone didn't work which was reported was never fixed) which fit our needs perfectly. Micro wave, toaster, coffee maker and a fridge with full kitchen utensils, plates cups. Cute little set up with separate sitting room. Dated but clean, and housekeeping did a great job every day removing the sand from our room and replenishing towels. Thank you! Walls are thin you can hear your neighbors. Heard a good fight at 2 am our second night coming from above us. Bed was hard and I mean hard. My tailbone and hip still hurt. The grounds were kept beautiful and spotless. Nice pool area but if you are there for the pool you will be disappointed, its the beach you should be here for. Magnificent if not the most beautiful I have ever seen and I have seen a few. No problem with getting a beach towel or palapa each day but we were out by 8 am. Beach personnel are out standing fun and they talk to you. They should run the front desk. There is no music that you can hear on this resort, others have music lightly playing. Dead Silence on the resort and beach unless your in the restaurant Hemingway's which we did eat lunch and dinner there. Dinner service was slow. They need additional training. It was our anniversary night and we told the hostess this when we made reservations and prior to be seated. Very few people in the restaurant this evening took forever just for a drink so I went to bar and got my own. From that point forward you could tell my waitress was put off that I did this. Meal was outstanding. My husband has been in food business for over 30 years and he was impressed. 220.00 which we expected would of cost 120 in USA. Location of the resort is close to everything. You can walk or ride the resort bikes, which come on people you could fix these bikes up, lol WOW but it did get us around, low tire and all. Not real good advertisement for your resort in the little town if not properly maintained. They have a little shop near the lobby to buy misc things. Inside you can get a beer for 4.50 which at the bar on the resort you pay 7.00 One day I went in bought a Coke it was 2.00 next day I went to buy a Coke is was 2.50. I asked why did the price go up, we changed the price due to having no coinage. LOL ok why is this my problem. I gave her the Coke back. My husband went in the next day grabbed two Cokes and two snicker ice creams. He was told 10.00. He asked what each item costs, she told him 3.5 for each ice cream and 2.50 each Coke LOL that is not 10.00 she saw he had a 10.00 in his hand and that works. We did eat at some local places, got groceries at Grace Bay Gourmet. Fish Fry was fun. We didn't get to scuba as it was a bit rough all week. There is a Padi shop right down the beach. I will come back but not to this resort. So the biggest draw to this resort is price point and location. No real vibe going on here at all. We did walk through some other resorts where you could feel energy. Front desk and restaurant need better help or training. Bell hop, grounds people and beach help all outstanding.
I chose The Sands because of reviews on this site. Beautiful setting. Great room. Probably not the fanciest place on the island but I would certainly stay here again. I was disappointed that there gift shop was closed the entire time I was there as they were moving it.
We have stayed at The Sands several times now, although we hadn’t been here in a about 15 years. The hotel is in a great location on a perfect beach. The accommodations are great for families but need some work. Many of the water sports staff, Waiters, bar tenders and Howard the concierge have been great. I was very disappointed though that as repeat customers, who now brought 2 additional customers with us, they were very unaccommodating with an upgrade or welcome basket or something to thank us for returning.
My wife and I and three other couples all stayed at the Sands for the first time in November and loved it. The resort was very nice and everyone was so nice. We especially appreciated the way that Willis took care of us every day at the beach. He was awesome. Only complaint we had was the occasional shortage of towels but not really a big deal and although we paid for an ocean view room it was more of a peak a boo view. We can't wait to book again for 2020.
