All the amenities needed for a relaxing vacation with small children!
We stayed at the Maya in mid November and had an AMAZING vacation. This group was so helpful to me in preparing for our trip. We had 4 adults, 2 kids + 1 baby and stayed in a family connected room at the Maya in building 65. This was conveniently close to the children’s pool and baby kitchen and would recommend this location to anyone with small children. We originally booked two separate rooms but were able to upgrade for a small negotiated fee. The room was beautiful, spacious and quiet. The housekeeping was phenomenal and attentive. We received turndown service each night. We had a couple minor things that didn’t work on the first night (safe, ceiling fan, etc.) but after telling the concierge - it was addressed quickly. A random tip about the room minibar - I had asked for Diet Coke in our fridge thinking they didn’t bring it at first. I read a tip on this forum then that the Diet Coke label is exactly like regular Coke but indicates it doesn’t have sugar and then realized our fridge was full of them! 😳 I did have a little trouble making reservations for 7 and getting to eat the places we wanted (no reservations available for Brazilian and Italian). This was slightly disappointing but extremely happy with the newly renovated buffet at the Lindo which offered so many choices. Steakhouse - we unfortunately waited more than an hour for our food. They were really understaffed that night. I let the concierge know the next day and was surprised to receive chocolate covered strawberries and champagne to our room - unnecessary and appreciated. The food was very good though. Thai restaurant- I understand they have been experimenting a bit with the menu (vegetarian, Thai, etc.). I appreciate them trying something new, light and healthy- however I thought the flavors were a little off being a person who likes Thai food. The service was exceptional though. We had the best experience at the Japanese steakhouse (special shout-out for Imelda!) and French restaurants - the Mexican was also very good. The beach couldn’t have been more beautiful and we really enjoyed the snack bar there. We also took advantage of the $50 massage tent slightly off property past The Grand on the beach. Very professional and relaxing massages. Before traveling, I contacted My Trish Advisor and asked her advice on a tour for our group. She gave excellent guidance and arranged a private tour for us to Cobá, a cenote, local restaurant and some local shops. We had both a driver and a tour guide and really enjoyed the day learning local history and the personal service of a private tour (extra stops for children, etc.) I highly recommend working with her! The only thing I would mention is that after you send your initial deposit, it does take a couple days to receive confirmation - I would arrange your excursion prior to traveling for peace of mind. The other highlights for us were Star Camp, the beautiful pools across all the complexes, the wildlife in each hotel lobbies, the shopping mall food and activities for children, and the list goes on. I especially want to recognize the hospitality of the Mexican people welcoming us in their beautiful country and their hard work - tip well!
Amazing place! Love the activities team!
This is an amazing place! I really enjoyed the shows and the activities team. Franco, Erik, Alex are great and they give the resort a great vibe. Thank you so much for an amazing vacation! I will come back!
Trip with extended fanily
Horrible service. We paid extra for the Star Prestige package. Others in our group had wine waiting for them when they got to their room the first day and more delivered daily, as was included in the package. We have politely requested wine delivery three times, with no response. Can't even get basic room service. I know this sounds petty, but these are services we paid extra for. My kids were reserved in a room with two double beds. That was not available when we checked in. They put them in a different room further away from us and told us their room we be ready tomorrow and to come back at noon the next day. At noon went, back was told the room would be ready at 3:00 and just swing by after 3:00 to pick up the keys. My daughter went to pick up the keys at 4:30 and was told it would be another hour. Then they called me and told me the room wouldn't be available until the next day. It is a nice property, but if you decide to come I would not pay extra for amenities that won't be provided.
Nice resort but some issues
The resort is beautiful and the rooms are huge! I’ll do a good, bad and ugly review as those are my favourite to read. The good: -beautiful resort -rooms are large -staff is very helpful -liquor is top shelf and drinks are great -beautiful white sand beach The bad: -rooms are dated -food is mediocre at best (except for delicious breakfast) -didn’t refill our hand soap even after 2 days empty. We even took the bottle out so they would notice -there is limited activities during the day and the resort is quite boring. The ugly -the pool is sooo cold it hurts to get in. -The pool is very deep and not heated so it never seems to warm up -we forgot to tip the turn down service one night and they were clearly mad. They trashed the bed, pulled the sheets out and there were pillows everywhere. It honestly looked like someone had sex in our room. There were also dirty bandaids left on our floor and neither of us had bandaids... I felt so violated I couldn’t get to sleep that night. I would not go back as beautiful as it was.
Best Vacation EVER!
This was by far the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever been on. Oliver, our favorite concierge, helped make our vacation so relaxing and fun! He also made my 10 year old brother’s birthday a special one that he will never forget. If you’re looking to be carefree and eat a lot of AMAZING food, then I highly recommend staying at Iberostar Paraiso Maya! The facilities were clean, the friendly and engaging staff was beyond accommodating and the location was beautiful. I will also say that I felt very safe on the resort!
