    Another amazing vacation

6th time to the Bahia Principe hotels on the Mayan Riverera. Our stay at the Akumal property could not have been better or more enjoyable. Our family of 4 were treated to amazing beaches, beautiful pools, bountiful eating options, and some of the most caring and genuine hotel staff we have seen. The hotel employees are the reason we return to this property. If you are in the main buffet for breakfast or lunch, go see Edgar or Rosita. They took such good care of us, and are amazing people. If you have kids, take them to Bahia Scouts to Fatima and Cynthia. These women are so caring, and plan so many fun activities for the kids. Our son did not want to spend time with us, he wanted to be in Kids Club! Go see Erasmo at the White Sands bar on the main pool, and ask for a El Jimador margarita. He makes the best! Remember, treat people the way you would want to be treated. Be pleasant, say hello, and smile. Your vacation may have a few hiccups, as ours did, but in the end it is the people who work there who are going to help you enjoy your stay to the fullest.

Wonderful vacation at a lovely resort.

My 15 year old daughter and I travelled to this resort for a week for a mother/daughter getaway. We only had one plan; lots of pool and beach time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. A few notes; Our room did feel a bit dated. It was very clean but it felt like it could use a coat of paint. We were in building 70. I don’t know if all the buildings need a refresh. This would have been a 5 star review if it weren’t for this. The food was great. Admittedly, we only did the buffet. We had talked about doing the a la carte restaurants but just stuck with the buffet. We could always find something to eat. The one thing that surprised me was how much seafood and fish was on the buffet. I don’t eat it but I have never seen a resort buffet with that much. I also loved that they had a Mexican corner. I hate going to a resort that doesn’t serve its country’s food. Drinks were standard resort drinks. All were great! I did hear complaints about bars running out of alcohol. We sat by the main pool and on the beach. Neither of those bars ever ran out of drinks. The pools were beautiful. The beach was stunning. There was not a seaweed problem like other beaches in Mexico. The ocean swimming area is very sandy. I am told the resort was at 90% capacity while we were there. We never struggled to find spots on the beach or by the pools. Also, I found that people didn’t reserve prime seats like at other resorts. I would come back here for this alone! I also loved how clean the pool area was. Dirty glasses and dishes were removed promptly. This made for a nicer environment and no wildlife hanging around the pool. My daughter and I did visit the spa while we were there. I had the Caribbean massage. It was amazing. The facilities are beautiful. My daughter had a facial. Not sure what was done but her skin glowed like I have never seen before. Another positive is how often the shuttles run. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a shuttle. Most times our wait was less than 5 minutes. The Bahia Principe complex is quite large so you do have to rely on the shuttles. I have stayed at other resorts where the shuttles run maybe every 15 minutes. This was a nice surprise. My daughter and I also visited La Hacienda at the entrance of Bahia Principe. We went once to buy some gifts. There were lots of souvenir options. We also went to the Mexican Fiesta on the Thursday night. I highly recommend attending this. There is an additional cost to attend but it wasn’t a lot. The entertainment was done so well, the games were fun and the drinks were very tasty. My daughter and I really enjoyed the evening! All in all, it was an absolutely lovely resort. The staff were wonderful and made sure we were well taken care of!
