Better than ever!
My wife and I were here for 9 days in December. We got married here 10 years ago and had not been back since then. We stayed in a swim up casita, actually the room right next to where we stayed when we got married! Rooms are better than the were. Modern, clean and spacious. My only complaint would be 1 or 2 days the water never got to hot, just warm. Otherwise a great room. The pools were cold, but I found once you were in it was fine. But hey I’m from Canada, so not really used to warm pools. Our main bartender was Jonathan, and this guy was awesome. He was hard working and read the guests so well. He seemed to know just how much attention everyone wanted. I had a few other bartenders and no one came close to Jonathan, the resort would be well served to ensure the keep him. Food was great, we ate everywhere except Santa Fe, kumpi was a fav of ours. We also ate at a few generations restaurants, which were all good (warming, lots of kids which made us approximate bring in adults only). Resort is well maintained and everyone is friendly. Our concierge Jonas and George were both very good. No pressure, super helpful and just good guys. We joined there club and I negotiated an upgrade to the presidential casita fir our last 3 nights. Wow is all I can say. I would do this is you can afford it. Room was ridiculous and the butler service was in real. Alexis, a young kid covered us during the day, he was great and is clearly going places. Excellent experience. If you are thinking of going, stop thinking, go, you will not regret choosing this place. 5 star all the way.
Three in One
This resort is beautiful and it makes you feel insulated from other places or resorts. So you feel like you're in a remote location. There are a few things that stood out most during our stay at this resort. --- Beach: there really isn't much of a beach and we didn't venture to all of the beachfront, but it's rather rocky and during the season we were there, rather windy. So we didn't venture into the water at all. The beach to the south of the resort seemed to look less rocky. However, there are certainly plenty of parts to enjoy the sand and layout. --- Food: I'd have to say the food here was less impressive than the family resort The Fives we went to (also Karisma). Specifically, La Isla. by far the worst I've had on any vacation. Honestly, I would just go as far to say, just avoid this place all together. Breakfast was okay, but it was standard, similar to Santa Fe, but do not waste a night booking a dinner at La Isla. On the the GOOD FOOD, Santa Fe, Cocotal, D'Italia, and Fuentes. ***Fuentes is a must, great dinner theater and the food is fantastic. You can spend more for wine pairing as well (we didn't and I feel it was probably just as good). ***D'Italia was probably our favorite restaurant on the resort. The food was incredible! ***Santa Fe was great as well and we dabbled in some pork belly, awesome. We also had the short rib and this was even better! ***Cocotal was the buffet breakfast of our choice to go to most mornings, we did one at Santa Fe and La Isla (both very similar), but we much prefer to go to the buffet ones while on vacation Since it has just about anything you could possibly want for breakfast. They have an omelet bar where you can get some made-to-order eggs any way you desire! --- Room: the room was awesome! Only hiccup here was having low water pressure on the shower inside. However, we had an outdoor shower with plenty of pressure! I'm glad it wasn't the other way around, we enjoyed the outdoor shower. The pool we had with ours was a little cold. ***SIDE NOTE*** if you get a room with a pool, try to get it on the north side of the row of rooms you're in. The setup (if you look on Google maps) is a horseshoe shape facing the beach. The horseshoe side to the north gets ALL the sun. So would imagine the pools are much warmer or at least much more tolerable to get in. If we went back, we'd make sure we got a north end room. Bars were great and PLENTY of entertainment! All the service was top notch!
We will be going back. Great time!
I went into this trip with many different expectations after reading the reviews of the resort. I can tell you that my wife and I had an amazing trip and we will most certainly return. I tried to take everything in and make sure that I could leave a descriptive review that could help future visitors as some of the previous reviews are either very negative or very positive. So here it goes. Travel and arrival: We took a shared van from the airport. I would recommend this as we talked to a few others that took the shuttle and they made stops at other resorts to get there. We had a direct trip to the main lobby of El Dorado. We were then taken by golf cart to the Casitas guest check in where we were greeted with champagne and a cold towel (not hot but whatever). It takes a minute to go through their questionnaire but then off to the room. We were put in the 30 block of the Casitas, Though I previously spoke with their Exotic Travelers club and they told me they would move us into their special 31 or 32 block. That didn't happen. Didn't matter anyways, we met some amazing neighbors and had more fun than anyone else on the property! The Room: After reading some of the reviews I was set for a dilapidated run down room that the toilet would never flush in. The room was great (swim-up Casita). Tons of room, huge shower, outdoor shower, large tub couch and table. If you looked into the fine details you could definitely find the flaws if you wanted. It is a little older but still maintained well and everything there is humid so it takes it toll on wood and other building materials, so not every door closes perfectly and there may be a crack here or there. But overall we were impressed by everything in the room. The room leads out to a great sitting area with a table and a day bed. There are two lounge chairs placed in the pool 3 feet away and a very lazy river that takes you to the bar. Agustin and Rad (I hope that is right) were great. The drinks are fun and ever changing. Selection is great including all top shelf. Service: We had great service from the bartenders to all the waiters/waitresses (Silverio at D'Italia Casitas was great) at the restaurants and room service (we ordered several times as the pool was to nice to leave. Our concierge was helpful but sometimes pushy trying to get us go to their presentation. It is their job so I didn't think much of it. They will however try to make you think you can get better deals (for excursions or restaurants) if you go through them and go to their presentation. There are better options for excursions go to the main lobby and talk to the Lomis desk there. They are great and don't try to pressure you for anything. We did end up doing the Exotic Travelers presentation. We got suckered by free massages. Don't do it!!!! Restaurants: Again, there were some awful reviews of the food. We tried as many of the restaurants as we could and all of the food was good. As good as you could expect from an all inclusive restaurant. D'Italia Casitas- service was great, food was OK Italian, they really want you to purchase a bottle of wine, the house wine was good. We did purchase an overpriced bottle of Kendal Jackson. D'Italia- Food here was better than Casitas, they have a different menu and it was more traditional Italian. Santa Fe Grill - Went there for breakfast and it was unfortunately mostly the exact same menu as the room service menu so we had the breakfast items previously. Still good though. Jo Jo's - This is the hangout. Open til 2am so everyone ends up there after the rest of the bars close. It was under a bit of construction while we were there but still great. The tables all overlook the ocean and atmosphere is great. Try the calamari, I had to go back several times just for this. Cocotol- I am not a huge fan of the buffet style breakfast, but this place is great. The food exceeded all my expectations for the hotel style buffet. Service again was great. Fuentes - Fun to experience, wouldn't do it again but it was fun. Finer dining and no selection so if you are a picky eater, this is not for you. For me it was great as everything served was right up my ally. Meat and Fish paired with wine! Kampai- Good food, serving size is huge. Sushi was good as well. Jade - Better than Kampai but sushi selection is limited as they just bring you a large platter if you have a few people with you. Everything was great that they brought. Overall we had a great 10 year anniversary and an amazing time. We will absolutely visit here again.
Excellent resort with the best experience!
We just visited el dorado casitas royale now for the third time and as every other time it did not disappoint! This place is pure paradise and the staff is wonderful! From our daily bartender to our concierge staff, David and Fabio to our cook at the ceviche restaurant Vicky we had the most wonderful time! Cannot day enough great things about this resort and all it has to offer. We will come back again!
Birthday getaway to El Dorado Royale in Mexico
I love this place (2nd time here). Good food, Super clean and the staff here are so friendly! Lety Miranda, our housekeeper for the week has the warmest, most contagious smile! She was so sweet all week. I absolutely adore the staff here. We have traveled to 4 different resorts, and this one is the best. I really like that they grow a ton of their produce on site so you can literally not get fresher salsa and salads! I will miss it all, until next time!
