Excellent! What more can I say...
...Well, maybe a few more words. This resort exceeded my expectations across the board. The resort itself is beautiful and the staff are absolutely fantastic. The food is brilliant and the facilities are excellent. I couldn't fault it at all and would love to name drop specific staff who helped make my holiday excellent but it would just turn into a very long list - they were all amazing!! Thank you for making my holiday so special and I will definitely be back! Also, for others who are going, I recommend Canada Transfers to get you to and from the airport - super reliable and friendly.
Excellent resort hotel
This was our first visit to Mexico and we certainly chose the right hotel. Excellent room, partial sea view, spotlessly clean. Superb beach, just a pity that the wind over our 10 day stay meant the sea was choppy which affected water-based activities. Brilliant staff, a wide variety of entertainment and great facilities. What more could you want? Well, maybe an a la carte restaurant, perhaps at a supplement, to give a better choice. Yes, there are several restaurants but the menu in each didnt change over our stay. If you are thinking of visiting the Riviera Maya, then i would happily recommend Secrets Maroma Beach. You won’t be disappointed.
This resort is very nice Brandon and Marco are amazing. They go over and beyond service. Good food and drinks are A1 would return again. Great weather can walk either side of the beautiful white sandy beach. Rooms are clean and spacious.
Luxury on the Riviera Maya
The Secrets Resorts are built after the same pattern, expansive pools, restaurants of the same names with the same fare, mostly ocean views, on the beach, etc. Maroma Beach has an unsurpassed segment of beach that one can walk for miles in either direction. At the resort there are many places to sunbath or sit under a tree or umbrella and it's not too crowded, even at the prime of year we visited. English is spoken by all the employees who interact with guests. All properties by UVC are all inclusive. There is a great deal to love about Secrets resorts and we've never stayed at a better tropical resort. We took a tiny catamaran out, provided as an amenity. They provide a snorkel tour as well but the wind was high the few days we tried to go out and the Harbormaster didn't allow such excursions. They had Spanish classes (not great or structured, but fun), painting, dancing, and other activities. We spent an evening on the beach listening to a local rock and roll duet as the full moon rose and played with little clouds tumbling past. On the other hand, not all is 100% perfect. Green fees, the list of amenities states, are paid at a couple of nearby golf courses. But cart rental is $60, club rental is $60 and transportation is $20 each way. For a couple like us, who didn't schlep clubs from the states, that's over $200 to golf even without paying green fees. Disappointing. A glass or two of wine with meals is free. If you want to buy a bottle of very good or high-end wine, the prices are astronomical, roughly 4x higher than we pay in the states. The French and Italian restaurants are great. The seafood restaurant is great. The Mexican restaurant, interestingly, is ho-hum. All are "stuffy", meaning quite formal. At such resorts we miss the conviviality and energy of the Carlos & Charlies, or Señor Frogs, or Cabo Wabo restaurants and we miss the outstanding fajitas one can buy at the local dives. So, while dining is great, it frankly gets a bit boring after a week. It'd be nice to have some fun dining on site as opposed to taking a taxi to the closest tourist trap bar and grill. While this is quibbling, prospective visitors should be aware of this.
My wife and I were looking for someplace wonderful to celebrate a long delayed honeymoon. Having read multiple reviews from previous vacationers warning of resort salespeople, I emailed the resort two weeks prior to arrival politely requesting to not be contacted about sales of vacation time shares, etc. Nevertheless, upon arrival to the resort, we were subjected to an hour wait for our room during the preferred club check in, which was really just a sales pitch. After politely saying no three times to the request to attend the sales conference at 8 am the next morning, my wife finally said she was done and we walked out. We had the feeling of being detained. The salesperson had the audacity to ask me what I do for a living. He also asked us, "Have you never traveled like this before?" To add insult to injury, upon getting settled in our room, the inner door handle to our room fell off, both bathroom sinks were clogged, and the “candle wall” above the bathroom tub was not working. We then had to call maintenance to resolve these issues in what was supposed to be a preferred ocean view suite. However, despite the terrible start, the entire stay was not a complete loss. Maintenance worked quickly to resolve all the problems with our room. The view from the room was phenomenal and we were greeted to an unobstructed view of sunrise every morning. The resort itself, although in need of an update, was well run and well maintained. The seaweed on the beach was minimal and raked up every morning. Room service was efficient and unobtrusive as we utilized the Secrets box frequently. Additionally, despite our rocky start, our concierge Evelyn Alvarez was wonderful and did her best to make our time at Secrets Maroma special. We also enjoyed the excellent service provided by beach concierge Antonio as well as a few other stand outs, including servers Eder, Alberto, Pedro, Victor, and Hugo. Thanks to them, we ended up having a great time. While advertised as an unlimited luxury experience, be prepared for something that does not quite live up to the hype.
