Wonderful Place for a Family Vacation
My family had a wonderful time at the Verandah (I wish we could go back tomorrow!) Our bungalow-style suites had a beautiful view of the bay and were conveniently close to both the children's center and the main pool / restaurant. Our rooms had everything we needed, and it was an added bonus that we were able to have a shared balcony as a family (there was an adjoining door on the balcony which could be left open to join the two balcony's.) The food was mostly good, though I wish we had booked a second night at the Buccaneer restaurant, as we felt it was by far the best. We didn't opt to go to Nichole's, which was the pay-more option restaurant as it would have been expensive with so many of us. Everyone working at the children's center we found very friendly, and the kids really enjoyed the fountain / kiddie pool as well as petting the tortoises. Be sure to go early for the slides on "the pirate ship" playground, since they become way too hot in the afternoon. We had such a good time and would absolutely recommend the Verandah to our friends. Look for Yocasta during the evening entertainment, we absolutely loved her and she was wonderful with us and with the little ones too. (She even got my sister out on the dance floor, no easy task !). Andre at the bar was another of our favorites and we had many wonderful conversations with him too, though we found just about everyone at the resort to be helpful, friendly and genuinely keen to make sure we had a great time.
Day Pass at the Verandah
I was originally staying at the Pineapple Beach Hotel, which is a sister hotel based across the road from the Verandah. We had the privilege of being able to use the facilities at the Verandah on a day pass which we visited more than once. The hotel is built on acres of land, we used the gold kart to get around. The front of house staff, restaurant and snack bar staff were all very helpful. the food was lovely especially the cocktails. The lovely small beach area which is tucked away in a cove area is a wonderful place to chillax with cocktails or go out on a boat to sight see, some of the Island with the informative experienced sailing staff .
Loved it! Our anniversary while we were there and got a bottle left in our room, nice touch. The room had a partial sea view which was great to watch pelicans diving but too far away to see if they caught anything. Room was very spacious and exactly like the pictures. Hot water at any time of the day. Restaurants were all good with enough choice in the buffet. Nicoles fantastic good but you got to pay for it. Main pool and adults pool, good with the bars opening between 10.30 and 11 and plenty of pool towels. Can always get iced water from the bar or coffee/tea from the coffee lounge Rasta beach, the quietest of the 2 beaches. Again a bar and a lunch food, very good burgers. The other beach had watersports and a soft drinks station but you had to walk up to the main pool for an alcholic drink if the beach side restaurant was closed, again good food. Crazy golf good fun but watch out for ants cos they bite and it stings! Staff all very pleasant, a lot of friendly and nothing is too much trouble kind of folks. Been to other hotels of this group and this was the best by a long way and hope to stay there again. Pink safari girls brilliant, only did half day trip as we had been before. Walk up to Devils bridge recommend that also.
We wasn’t disappointed
We had never even thought about visiting Antigua however we were caught up in the Thomas Cook collapse so had to find an alternative for our wedding anniversary at short notice and we wasn’t disappointed. The bungalows were very spacious and clean. The resort is fairly big and there are regular shuttle buses to get around. We dined at all the restaurants and enjoyed the food at them all although the food at the buffet restaurant was a little repetitive however you can order from the grill menu where requested. We enjoyed the weekly BBQ by the pool as it made a nice change from the regular buffet food. The staff were friendly although they were a little lacking in consistency. The beaches and pool areas were always kept clean and tidy and the sea hammocks are a really nice touch. We never had difficulty finding a sun lounger either by the pool or the sea. Having a fridge in the room was an added bonus as not all hotels offer this even when all inclusive. We hired a car through the hotel which was unproblematic. My only negative would be that there are no sun shades around the “adult” pool unless you want to sit at a table so we only spent a few hours there. We enjoyed taking out the catamaran and kayak and there was always clean towels available at numerous areas around the resort. I would recommend The Veranda to others (families and couples) and I would also return.
Best 60th Birthday you could ask for.
Stayed for two weeks over my Birthday and had the most amazing time. Everyone on this island is so lovely. The hotel staff are so extra special and look after you so well. Big shout out to the Head Chef what a star and I will never forget my black pineapple from the the market.
