The Royal Club is the way to go
First of all, I want to thank the staff at the Royal club especially Rodrigo and Monica. When things went horribly wrong on our first day, they helped us tremendously and turned the whole vacation back around. The main front desk staff at the resort were part of the cause for my distress. The lady gave me terrible directions to the royal club. She didn’t offer a shuttle to get us there. This was our first time and we had no idea where to go. We ended up walking the wrong direction for an hour! I’m thankful we paid extra for the royal club, I never had to deal with that desk ever again. The ladies across the lobby in the guest assistance area helped us with getting my bag that was left in the shuttle from the airport. Then they called Rodrigo who came and got us. Those ladies were so much nicer than that front desk crew. The royal club was wonderful. Rodrigo was our shuttle driver for most of our stay. We were greeted with champagne and fruit, Monica went over all the discounts we received for being a member and she went out of her way to help me with my lost bag. Honestly, I was a basket case until Monica and Rodrigo helped calm me down. Our room was very clean and comfortable. It was perfect for the three of us. The cleaning crew did a great job and made sure we had enough towels, waters, and pillows. Room service was really fast and delicious. If it was up to my kid, we would have eaten room service all the time. The only issue we had was yellow water. I took a bath in it and came to no harm so I didn’t make a big deal about it. I alerted the staff, they alerted maintenance, but it didn’t seem to be a threat to health. We enjoyed the royal club pool. It was warm and Not crowded. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. We liked the restaurant there too. It was small, but the food was good. They have a decent but small buffet for breakfast, and beautiful views of the water. The staff there remembered my food allergies and went out of their way to recommend and make sure I avoided my allergens. We ate mostly at the buffets for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner we went to la hacienda one night and Sonora Grill two nights. La hacienda was very good. Our waiter, Ismael, took excellent care of us. I alerted him to my food allergies and he made sure I didn’t come in contact with wheat or dairy. He even found me a dessert I could eat. Sonora grill was so good, we ate there twice. Our waiter both nights was Miguel. He made sure I had a delicious meal and even brought me gluten free bread! At the end of both meals Miguel brought me a dessert I could enjoy. Edgar, the manager, always checked up on us. We loved that restaurant! My kid really liked the kids club here mostly because they offered video games. He wanted to hang out there more than hanging out with us. I just wish they were open a couple more hours past 5. We purchased the ultimate Xcaret pass and we spent time there every day of our vacation. There was so much to do, we couldn’t do it all in one day. We found it easier to float down the cenotes early in the morning when there were less people. There were a lot of places to take pictures but the park charges $80 usd for a picture package. We brought our own waterproof camera to take loads of pictures at no extra cost. The food there is very expensive so ate a big breakfast at the resort, walked to xcaret and ate our own snacks until we were ready to go back to the resort for lunch. We brought our own snorkels and fins to use in the swimming areas. There were a lot of fish to see until too many people showed up. If you’re snorkeling, get there early! The show in the evening is a must see. We loved it! When we got tired of Xcaret, we spent a lot of time on the little beach at the resort, as well as the pool bar. The drinks were always good and they did the job. The wildlife here was so fun to watch. The monkeys were so funny, the deer just roamed around and the little coatis were so cute! People were feeding the monkeys but it’s really not allowed they are wild animals. One monkey (see picture) followed us around for a while. We were not going to feed him, so he gave up. In conclusion, We seriously love this place! We will return!
Amazing 10-day stay at Occidental
[Review by my parents, Alicja and Andrzej, who stayed here earlier this year]: Our stay here was incredible! Professional staff, amazing accommodations, and beautiful grounds made our 10 day stay truly memorable. We want to extend special thanks to Tania who directed us to fun activities and was very patient with all of our questions, and Monica Cruz who went beyond the call of duty to make our every meal at El Pescador a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for making our stay here so welcoming! We would highly recommend our friends to stay here when visiting this region of Mexico. Best, Alicja and Andrzej
Early birthday trip in Mexico
This is very good all-inclusive destination. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s a large property with a lot to do. Try all the restaurants and drinks. Don’t be afraid to tip the staff like Roberto A. They deserve it.
Almost a Perfect 10
All service personnel were friendly, accommodating, and very professional.Service was beyond our expectations! Food was fabulous! Best soups we've ever had. It was everything you could ever want or expect from a quality all inclusive resort, I would love to come here again and again EXCEPT, for the beds. We had real issues trying to sleep because our King bed was very, very hard. I can usually sleep anywhere but I had real issues trying to get any restful sleep. I know everyone is different and if you like firm mattresses you'll love it here but unfortunately for us, it just didn't work.
Too much walking!
We loved the fact that they did not use a reservation system for their alacarte dining, however, there was no shuttle service that took you door to door. You had to walk quite a way to a shuttle stop, and then quite a way to your destination building. Additionally, the walkways are very slick and poorly lit at night. The monkeys on our balcony each day were awesome, and I did feed them bananas! Very tame and well behaved. They do like to push past you into your room if they see fruit on the table, so be ware! The salt water lagoon was great. Loved all the fish and the very mellow pelican that hung out with us all day. The best restaurant by far was the Mediterranean. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo over asparagus risotto was sublime! Others in our group loved the lasagna. I would give it more stars if they provided additional transportation options within the resort (golf carts?) The housekeeping staff was outstanding, however the customer service woman that I spoke to was rude. Check in was a breeze and the front desk staff was great!
