    Tired resort but spectacular views

    We just returned from a week trip with a scuba group. We have been to Mexico approximately 13 times but this was our first visit to Cozumel. The location is good, not too long of a ride from the airport. The proximity of the buildings to the beach is fantastic. We upgraded to a honeymoon suite as we had initially reserved the deluxe tropical view and other members of our group immediately asked to move rooms due to poor room conditions. Although we paid considerably more for the upgrade, it was worth it. The view from the patio was spectacular and had a private sitting area with remarkable views of the sunsets. The room was quite large with an outdoor jacuzzi, however, being on the first floor it wasn't very private and not the cleanest jacuzzi. We also discovered that the nice sandy area right off the patio was used for private parties that went until about 11:00 on three of the seven evenings we were there. It wasn't a huge deal but I really wish we would have known about that ahead of time. The room had a large tile shower and water pressure was decent. The bed was very comfortable and the fridge was kept stocked. The maintenance employees were constantly painting and trying to make improvements. I think the biggest issue with the resort is the age of the rooms and their need for a remodel. If the rooms were remodeled well, this could easily be a five star property due to it's location. The food was hit or miss. I was quite disappointed with the buffet. It is best to eat there right when they open or the dishes run out and are not restocked timely and the fruit especially fills up with bugs after a bit. Be sure to wear bug spray when eating at the buffet, many in our group were bitten. We especially enjoyed El Patio (Mexican) and Sunny SIde for dinners. The Italian restaurant was ok and we stayed up late for the late night snacks one night. My suggestions: (1) add ice cream! (2) add the snack bar option for an hour in the afternoon or a quicker option for a small dinner. The drinks were delicious, bring your own insulated glasses and don't forget to tip the bartenders! I would also recommend bringing a small bottle of dish soap to wash your glasses if you bring them. The dive shop associated with the resort (Dive House) is quite good and the 15 scuba divers in the group really enjoyed their time. Visited the spa for a gel polish manicure, hydrotherapy circuit and a tension relief massage. The hydrotherapy was an adventure, worth trying, and the massage was quite good - I was sore for 2 days. I was disappointed in the manicure quality. Prices in the spa are high but there are coupons you get when you check in and if you do the sales presentation you can get spa credit as well. We attended the sales presentation and were impressed as it was low pressure and seems like a decent deal. We decided not to buy as we would like to try Secrets first. May consider it in the future depending on how we like the other resort chains. Overall it was a good week. I had read reviews prior to arriving so I was prepared in that this is an older resort and on the budget end of the company knew the food wasn't going to be the best. We probably would not return unless the rooms were remodeled and some improvements were made in the dining options. It was still a good week (very relaxing) but for the price as an all inclusive, I expected a bit more quality. Tip for traveling - there are shuttles that take you from the airport to the hotel (you need to pay for them but they are reasonable and you don't need to reserve ahead of time) and you take a taxi when you return to the airport. Cozumel airport is very small and can be quite busy so be sure to give yourself at least 2 hours during busy season.

    A week of fun in the sun

    My wife and I spent almost a full week here in February. We had a great time here. The food was great at most of the restaurants at the resort. Our favorite was the Mexican restaurant. We ate breakfast and lunch at the buffet because it was less crowded.

    Relaxed atmosphere was welcome

    We spent Feb 14 to 21, 2020 at Sunscape Sabor. We were a family of 11 people and for the most part we had a good holiday. If you are looking for a relaxed resort where you don’t need to worry about dressing up too much at night (Men did not get turned away from the restaurants for wearing shorts) and want to get reasonably priced ocean front rooms, then this resort is for you! The drinks were awesome, with the bartenders making any kind of drink you could think of. The entertainment team were tireless in their jobs, working long hours and still being friendly and encouraging participants to join in the activities. We enjoyed the retro show and the fire show. We had ocean front rooms (highly recommended asking for building away from the main pool, as it is a bit noisy and no privacy on patio). It was lovely to sit on my patio and relax while looking at the ocean. We never had a problem getting loungers at the beach. The staff were always helpful and friendly. My suggestions for Sunscape to improve the resort: 3 couples in our party had booked a room with a king sized bed, but instead got 2 double beds, which is not great for a couple. More consistency with the mattresses would be good. My bed was too hard and another person’s was so soft that it was causing her back issues. The condition of our bathroom was my main complaint with the room. On my second day the shower spigot fell off the wall, and our bathroom ceiling leaked whenever the unit above had a shower. Please invest some money into improving the bathrooms and it would go a long way to improving this resort! We were also missing dessert options like ice cream. If you added an ice cream parlour, or just had it as a regular option for dessert that would be awesome. We tried the buffet for dinner once and found the food almost inedible. After that we only ate dinner at the a la carte restaurants. The buffet was better for breakfast and lunch. Last improvement would be to prevent the sewer smells at various spots around the resort. If these issues were fixed, then I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would change my vote to a 5 star rating!

    Great Staff & Great Snorkeling

    The staff at this resort are absolutely amazing! Special shout out to Antonio, who helped with our bags, drinks, and spoke to us every time he went by. The snorkeling at the beach was beautiful, and my husband tried diving which was also spectacular! Food at the only buffet wasn’t great, but the a la carte restaurants were really good. I don’t recommend a room on the ground floor, our first room had a leaky air conditioner so we upgraded. Beautiful second room! Again, staff and management were wonderful the whole time. Spa is beautiful too! I would recommend this resort if you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere and/or take the kids - lots of activities for them too!

    Where is the ice cream?

    I asked the same question at the front desk and was told to write a comment on Trip Advisor. So, where is the ice cream? This is a question that is asked a whole lot...and still we have no ice cream. Management of Sunscape Sabor Cozumel, where is the ice cream? Your guests would really enjoy some...on a regular basis!
