Enjoyable With Some Improvements Required
Our week at Secrets Aura ended February 15, 2020. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We had reserved a Jr. Suite Pool View room which is the least expensive accommodation category at this resort. There are about 80 of these rooms located in Buildings 40 to 44 at the very back of the resort. We did not realize when booking that the rooms were located at the back of the resort. Those on the first floor have direct access to one of the pools. Our accommodation was satisfactory, however, we had to move after our first night as the air conditioner was very noisy. This continued to be an issue in our second room as well. Very difficult getting a good nights sleep. We asked to be upgraded to a different location but were informed that the resort was fully booked. The view from our third floor balcony was very nice. This resort describes itself as its guests being able to “bask in quiet luxury” and “amenities of unlimited luxury”. This was not our experience. The food at the Oceana, Bordeaux and Windows restaurants was ok but not what I expect from a resort describing itself as being luxurious. Our accommodation was certainly not what I consider as luxurious. I can not comment on other room categories. The resort does a terrific job of hosting special events. We were there for the Academy Awards celebration evening and Valentines Day evening. The food at the Academy Awards evening was excellent which leads me to wonder where was this quality of food all the other nights. There is very limited access to the ocean because of all the coral right at the edge of the beach. The views from the beach and the front pool are gorgeous. We especially enjoyed watching the sun set each evening. As others have stated, the staff at this resort do a great job and have been very well trained.
A group of us went to celebrate the birthday of two of our friends. Stayed in the Preferred Club side of the resort. The service was wonderful, the food was good. We ate multiple evenings in the sushi restaurant. Carolina and Angel were always excellent
While we had a beautiful view of the beach, our room was very dated. Our room looked nothing like what was on the internet and what we paid for. False advertising...We were put in a room that was once office space. Paint chipping off the doors and walls. There was a constant sewer smell and musty smell in the room. There was a water leak in our closet and had to put towels in the closet to soak up the water. All our shoes got wet. The floors were filthy! By the time one of took a shower and walked to the bed, our feet would be black and sandy. Not once did they sweep the hallways outside our room. And yes we reported it. The food at the Market Place wasn't the best...mostly cold or had gnats flying over the fruit. The Ala Carte restaurants were very good. The staff was very friendly. Not their fault their employer is slacking. Have stayed at other Secrets Resorts and enjoyed them, but doubt we will return to this resort ever.
Carson and Lindsay
Arrived to the resort 2/16 with about 25 other people. Check in was great. We all got into our rooms and instantly knew this resort was very ran down. Most of us had to move rooms and the smell of the sewage was terrible. Sunday night the ac unit was leaking and I slipped and fell on the floor. As the days went on most of us moved rooms and some even moved multiple times. Toilets flooded, mirrors fell off the walls and the room smell was terrible. I had visited the bathroom in the lobby and had some money in a pocket and it fell out and there was a cleaning lady in there and I left I returned within two minutes and it wasn’t there. She couldn’t speak English and I’m pretty sure she took it. Which it was my fault for letting it fall out but she was the only person in the bathroom and was still there when I returned. The staff in the bars and restaurants worked super hard. They food was terrible besides the sushi bar. We are there most of the week. Catalina and Angel were amazing. Our group was very very disappointed and we will not be back. We payed a good amount for this resort and it sucked. We spent a lots of time at the pool but this resort is terrible and needs updated badly. The best part was the sunshine other then that the resort sucked.
Pleasant With Problems
Generally our one week stay in February was enjoyable, beach groomed and clean, pools cleaned daily, food and drink plentiful. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The negative issues often outweigh the positives. Beach and pool lounge chairs sometimes didn't meet demand and umbrellas were in short supply. Food quality at the Market Buffet was mediocre. Popular Oceons restaurant was the only other open for breakfast and lunch and service was often excruciatingly slow. One of the food handling staff even sneezed into their hands and didn't bother to wash their hands afterwards. Unacceptable and disgusting! The Coffee Cafe served terrible coffee (definitely not Timmys quality) and there was a "sewer smell" outside the Cafe. Rooms were clean but we had two burned out lightbulbs that were never replaced. The same "sewer smell" came thru to the bathroom sinks. One day no towels, another day they missed our room completely. A call to the Front Desk resulted in a prompt fix. The stairwells often had small trash pieces (bits of paper, etc) which should have been swept up at least several times a day. It's an "Average" resort.
