1st time at Riu Palace Bavaro and cant wait for next time
Went to celebrate mine and spouses birthday (Wednesday 10/30 thru Monday 11/4) and it was exactly what we both needed. Loved the resort and the adults only VIP pools as the main pool was too crowded and loud. So worth the extra cost to upgrade to adults only. The Bed was too hard and a week later my back is still hurting. The specialty restaurants were a pleasant surprise as we were unsure about them and did not know what we were ordering but they were exceptional. Finding our room was difficult sometimes and wished that were shown the way by a bell person when we first arrived none were to be found and at night the signs were poorly lit or completely dark as was our building 5200. Did a excursion with Subua Caribe and it was so worth it that upon our next trip will do another. Hated the entertainment at night but kudos to them but i hated it as it was repetitive and boring. They should also have someone seating guests instead of having us wonder around looking for a table. Should also have a smoke free section. Appreciated the workers everyday who walked the beach and cleaned up the seaweed the came on shore. Pool Parties were a blast and a must for whomever is 21 and older
Beautiful Beach ... a little off overall though
This resort has the most beautiful beach I have ever seen! However, our room (094) was pretty run down and somewhat filthy. I wish I didn’t have to write this because overall we still enjoyed our vacation but the bedding had stains all over it, everything was covered in dust, the mirrors had some strange substance around all the edges and the handle in the wash closet was completely broken. The rest of the hotel looked great unless you sat down and really looked at it for a second. When you do that you realize that it is in need of a good cleaning and maybe some renovations to freshen it up. Things leak, are cracked, dirty and broken at almost every turn. Even when you sit at the booths near the stage and bar area where they perform their shows at night they always seem to be oddly wet despite the fact that it didn’t rain once while we were there. The food was great, the fruit was incredible and the drinks were fine but as for selection of a la carte options we found it fairly limited. This didn’t really matter to us because the buffet was so good but this might impact others decisions to go to this resort over others. Above all else, the thing we found the most bothersome was some of the staff members. I’ve never been to a resort where they feel so comfortable to ask you for your belongings. One of the poolside staff members asked my husband for his slides for so many days in a row that I just told him to give them to him literally off his feet because I figured he must need them pretty badly to have asked about them for days on end. The same staff member also harassed my cousin for her portable speaker and didn’t understand when she said that she needed it for her trip, and that she didn’t want to give it/sell it to him m, that it didn’t mean that she would leave it for him at the end of our trip. In fact, we had told him when we were leaving and he found my cousin on social media and messaged her reminding her to leave it for him. Easy to ignore and not upsetting but definitely a bit awkward. The entertainment staff is incredible though. They are all very sweet and super welcoming Like I said, overall our trip was still enjoyable because the beach, the food and the entertainment staff were the saving grace BUT we would not return to this resort
Great resort with some small issues
It was our 10th visit to RIU resort and second time in Palace Bavaro. We made reservation at riu.com and were expecting attention to our request and even some upgrade as loyal customers. Not a chance. We paid extra money for ocean view room in VIP area and requested top floor, but received pool view room on 2nd floor. After complaining about view we got explanation that palm trees became too big and covered view. Pretty simple, but in that case just don't sell lower rooms as "ocean view". Fortunately we met great guy Nestor who showed us a few available rooms in different buildings and we found top floor room with ocean view over pool and palm trees. Suggestion: pay extra money for VIP area, but don't pay for ocean view.
We stayed here at the beginning of October for just under two weeks and had a fab time! All of the staff were helpful, the reps made sure we always had a fun time and the waiters made sure our glasses were never empty whether it was by the pool or on an evening. The weather was beautiful and resort was good value for money! The only bad points I’d have is that the rooms could do with a better clean and updating as they aren’t to the highest of standards. The food was lovey in the buffet restaurant but the same couldn’t be said for the steakhouse which was awful! Other than that the experience as a whole was lovely. Would deffo consider returning.
Honeymoon from hell
Currently staying at the riu palace bavaro First off when arriving at the hotel optics and mini bar where both empty, and mini bar was broken for two days, nothing for our honeymoon despite putting in a special request, eventually after complaining we got a letter congratulating us on our wedding anniversary and a bottle of champagne this was on day 9, just goes to show they didn’t listen because we’ve only been married 3 weeks so most definitely was not our anniversary. Food is absolutely vile, only place that was edible was the steak house, everything else is reheated crap from days before, lunch turned my stomach just looking at it, no food it labelled so wouldn’t surprise me if they where feeding you rat. Music extremely loud from ours and all surrounding hotels until 12am so good luck getting sleep until then if you fancy an early night. Constant power cuts and no water to the room, and brown water coming from the taps, no kettle in the room so if you want a way to clean a baby’s bottles you have no chance, also nowhere for my baby to sleep when we arrived so had to request this twice before a cot was brought up. Doors in the hotel are left smashed and the doors when you first walk in are so dirty you can’t see through them. I’m not fussy but I spent my first 3 days here in tears because i was so disappointed. Also if your with TUI and you want to complain good luck because the rep is never available, we tried to go to him 4 times and left our room number then eventually gave up. Staff are disgustingly rude on reception the way they treat you is insulting, I came to reception with a complaint and when my husband came behind me they said “I will speak to him” presumably because he’s a man. The shop in the hotel is absolutely outrageously priced so make sure you done forget anything $33 USD for a pack of playing cards and 6 paracetamol. Not to mention their is a clear race issue in the hotel If you’re Dominican they make special drinks, food and room requests but anyone else they aren’t interested especially once you give them their tip, once you give them a tip you don’t even get a hello. By day 5 I was desperate to go home and back to work, the place is just miserable.
