Hotel suffers from damp, ruined all my clothes
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel but I have to say my whole experience has been dampened (literally) since my return. The whole building suffers from damp (there’s a strong odor throughout). There was visible mold on the wallpaper in the Japanese restaurant which is a little off putting when you’re trying to eat and cannot be beneficial the health of the staff and guests. Moreover and most frustratingly, upon our return home we have found all our clothes smell of damp, even my hair smelt. I have washed and rewashed my clothes to no avail. My once happy memories are now plagued by all my ruined clothes. It’s a shame but I would avoid the hotel solely based on this, trust me it’s not worth the after wash!
It's in a league of it's own
Having visited this resort for a fifth time earlier this month, in my eyes, there really is nowhere like the Riu Palace Las Americas. It's in a league of it's own. The variety and standard of food across many restaurants is outstanding, combined with BBQ's located just next to the private beach, there's really not a lot more you can ask for. The staff will go above and beyond in any way they can to enhance your stay. That goes for bar staff, entertainment staff, waiters, even the chefs. Staff work around the clock to maintain the grounds and interior to an amazing standard. The hotel offers the perfect blend of tranquillity and party atmospheres across three pool areas, catering for groups, couples and friends. I've met many people, mostly from North and South America, who've been to the resort 10+ times because they can't find many places better than this. Don't hesitate to book up and create some memories that'll last a life time!
Lovely property with decent snorkeling just off the beach. The “party pool” area is kind of obnoxious, but the other pool (big one in the pics) is nice for a quick dip or sunbathing. Good food, restaurant staff is great. Good mini bar & included drinks, nice clean rooms. The hotel security doesn’t like when you use Uber-they even took a pic of the guy’s license plate-but the taxis they call for you cost 4x as much. Wristband gets you into all Riu properties including the one next door. Good location. Stays pretty noisy until about 10-11pm, so keep that in mind if you’re an early bird. Pretty similar to most all-inclusive Cancun resorts except the food was probably better than most if you eat at one of the restaurants. Buffet is ok for buffet food.
Beautiful building mediocre food
The building is beautiful but on second glance, there is a lot of deferred maintenance. This is especially strange given this is a relatively new facility and it is constantly being cleaned. The beach is great and easy to use but the pools - not so much. The food is cruise ship vintage and nothing outstanding. Staff was wonderful, just not a lot to work with. Ice machine and room phones not operational. It was very hard to find allergen options.
Most of the staff is very kind. The best restaurant is the steak house, the rest are ehh ok. The drinks were not so special. Hotel smells a bit moldy but maybe its just the fragrance. It does have a nice view and nice pools. I would probably come back to this place.
