We spent our 25th anniversary there. I am a travel agent and highly recommend this place to anyone. The property was safe, clean, really good food, and lots of fun. RIU did this one right. Additionally, the property is well located in the hotel zone and right next to the RIU Cancun should you fancy visiting that location.
We booked our first ever adults only hotel and were not disappointed. No kids zooming around on micro scooters, or dreadful kiddie disco to endure. We stayed at a 5 star in Turkey for my 50th in May, and it was horrendous. Kids zooming around the restaurants.(It was enough to make us search for a child free hotel this time!) From the moment we stepped through the doors we were treated amazingly. Paulio on reception was so friendly and helpful. He gave us a superb room overlooking the beach. The food was the BEST we have ever had at an all inclusive resort. And we have stayed all over the place. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The waiting staff in all sections of the hotel are superb. I literally cannot praise this hotel highly enough. We loved being able to dine in the Al a carte restaurants each night. And the buzzer to let you know when your table was available. This hotel thinks of everything. The beach is spotlessly clean and the snorkelling was really good. We will most definitely be returning.
Just stayed a week at this resort (our 3rd stay there), and it did not disappoint. They have 3 Infiniti pools with gorgeous views of the beach. We sat at the activity pool everyday, which had good music, pool volley ball, water aerobics and games - a great overall vibe. Be sure to get seats early in the morning, as they fill up fast. Beach is stunning and one of the prettiest we have ever been to. It was very windy, but it was welcoming, and locals said it was common for January. Weather was perfect! Pool was a tad bit cool, but also common for January. Food is good. Buffets have a good variety and the lobster and steakhouse was excellent. We also ventured off the resort for dinner - Puerto Madero, Lorenzillo’s and Rosa Negra - all excellent and a short cab ride away. Stayed in a sea view room, which I would highly recommend. It had a see-through balcony and was definitely worth the extra money. Ours overlooked the activity pool and beach and the views were amazing. Most rooms have 2 double beds pushed together as a king, but ours had a true king sized bed (Room 413). The beach is truly one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been to and we’ve traveled all throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. You can walk in either direction a good distance. The resort is also in walking distance to shops, restaurants, markets to by souvenirs and all of the downtown clubs. It’s nice to take a walk down there to get a change of scenery. You can also walk right next door to the Riu Cancun and can use their facilities. Only con was the free shuttle offered by Riu Palace for Riu members. It was extremely disorganized and took forever! Pay the extra money for a private shuttle or cab. We did on the way to the airport and it was only $45 with a tip - well worth it! Riu Palace is a great hotel chain and we try to stay in them if available when we travel. We will definitely be back again!
Average for Cancun
First off, the staff here is great. The rooms are clean. However I thought the bed was about as comfortable as a cement block. If you prefer vegetarian cuisine, your only real option is the buffet. Which was fine, but gets boring. The bigger quiet pool is always in the shade. The party pool is fun but can be a bit too much after a while. There’s no option to really eat on the beach/poolside so that was a bit of a bummer. There’s also a lot of unpleasant smells here....the 24 hour lobby bar was the worst of it, but there are musty smells in the hallways and some other unpleasant smells by the beach. If this is your first trip to Cancun then you’ll probably like this place. It’s not terrible...but if you’ve been to other places in Cancun you’ll quickly realize what the Riu is missing. But in the end, the sun is shining, you’re on the beach, the service is good....so it’s not all that bad =)
Gorgeous and Clean!
This my husband and I's first stay at an All Inclusive resort and in Cancun. Riu Palace Las Americas is BEAUTIFUL and extremely clean! All of the staff we met were very attentive and always smiling. This resort definitely takes pride in maintaining a great image. We went with 3 other couples. The rooms were damp, however you're right on the water in a humid climate, so, it is what is is. I never went to the party pool, but that's not our style, we have pools in Missouri, we were there to beach it! The beach was smaller, but really nice! The beach service was great, but order 2 drinks at a time, it takes the fella awhile as there is only 1 server for everyone on the beach. The reason I did not give it 5 stars..... our last night there we dined at Black and White for the second time(we loved it so much the first night!)..... the majority of us ordered filet and lobster tail. When the main course arrived 2 of our group found that fish was stuffed into an empty lobster tail(where did the empty tail even come from????) and was trying to pass off as lobster! While this "mistake" was corrected immediately it seemed a little shady to our group...... Overall, our experience was great! We got everything out of our trip that we went for....sun, sand, drinks, relaxation and entertainment!
