Warm & Sunny
We stayed in the Preferred section in very nice & spacious rooms. There are ocean views but through the trees. What was wonderful was waking up to the cooing of doves everyday! the days were 90-95 deg F & the nights low 80's. There's always a breeze & a cold drink presented with a smile. The staff is quite friendly & very helpful but we have stayed a several Secrets where they were a little more so than here. It is a unique set up with double bungalows instead of a large complex, we liked that a lot. The beaches are all "public" but the grounds are private so there are some locals & vendors that wander the beach but they are quite polite & considerate & pretty much leave you alone if you wish. I snorkeled a little, it was okay. The water is fairly clear but I didn't see a lot of "creatures" or fish like I thought I would being it's in a huge bay. Kayaking is great there & the black sand beach was very clean & nice. The food was the best of all the Secrets we have ever stayed at! The service at them was top notch as well.

Carlos made our experience very easy and comfortable. Our check in process was quick and luxurious. He made sure we had our dinners and spa experience booked with an easy process. He gave an amazing first impression for my wife and me
Beautiful property - skip the preferred club
We love all inclusives and this one was great. Their peaceful hillside setting on the bay was great to watch the water. The staff was super friendly. Having tried several AIs in Mexico this was a step up in our opinion. We liked nearly all of the food we had; they don't take reservations and so you did have to be strategic about dinner times. We heard others complain about a wait for a table at 7p - we just went to dinner more often around 8 and were fine. The property is spread out and very hilly. Be prepared for walking or you can call for a shuttle pick-up to take you around. We were disappointed with our room - it was a preferred club ocean view - our balcony was behind the main service area and so our view was delivery trucks and workers coming and going (even starting before 7a). The room location at least was nice because it was a short walk for us to the restaurants and pool - but we would have rather been higher up / further away to actually have more of a view and more quiet. They had some live music / performances every night at the Barefoot Bar, but generally was a quieter night-life scene which is what we prefer but may not be for you. If you want a quiet escape this was a mixed bag. The main pool did play loud club music every afternoon. The quiet pool was nicer - no music at all which was peaceful except for the workers doing weed-whacking and leaf blowing literally all day. The gas powered shuttles taking people around drove past our room door early and late. And you are definitely in a living eco-system. We saw and heard birds, raccoons, skunks, coatis, squirrels and howler monkeys every day - which was cool but also disconcerting when they were waking you up at 5a or the raccoons were on your balcony. Overall we paid a $200 per night premium for the preferred club and didn't think it was worth it. As stated our room actually wasn't nicer. Preferred club isn't a particular tower or area (as we have enjoyed at a previous AM resort property) - they are literally spread out seemingly randomly around the property. The upgraded mini-bar in the room were 1 each daily Vodka and Rum shooters. From what we could tell the upgraded toiletries were a toothbrush and toothpaste. They do have 10 Cabana beds which you could pay to rent but preferred club members could reserve for free. The problem is there are only 10 of them so reservations filled up immediately every day. We got it on one day and it was nice - and frustrating because 75% of the other beds were empty all day despite having reservation signs on them. They need more of these and/or a better system. The other preferred club benefit was their private bar, which did have some nicer bottled liquor - but you literally do have to walk through an office to get to it. It was not a place you wanted to hang-out and just felt awkward. It had snacks there which sat out all day so they did not look appetizing. The main benefit then is the extra restaurant for a la carte breakfast and lunch (Seaside Grill). This was nice - it was never even 50% full and we liked the menu, staff and location more than the other a la carte breakfast/lunch place (Aqua). But was it worth $200 per day?? Not for us. When we booked on their website (about 6 weeks in advance) they had a special 'run of the house' room rate which did not guarantee which room type you would receive - which was like $300 per day cheaper. If this was available when we wanted to go back we would definitely do it. The view is going to be a complete crap shoot anyway, and you might even get preferred club. When we booked they also had a 'Love Unlimited' package going for $199 which included a couples 50 minute massage. If you are interested in a massage you should do it, it was much cheaper than you could pay onsite. The spa and massages were nice and made for an extra relaxing day.
My boyfriend and I, both in our mid 30’s, stayed here for 7 days/6 nights in a junior plunge pool suite. Started out with easy, straightforward pickup from airport to resort (20 min). We were preferred club, so we had a seprate check in area with a private bar. Andres and Robert were super friendly and accommodating. They made sure we enjoyed ourselves throughout our stay. They first told us we were upgraded to an ocean front room close to the main area, however once we were able to see it we quickly realized we wanted our original booking. We phoned the staff and Daniel had our concern resolved immediately and absolutely loved our plunge pool room, which still had an amazing view. The room was a little farther away from the main pool and restaurants but we enjoyed the peace and quiet. If we didn’t feel like walking we phoned for JJ to pick us up, best driver there. The resort itself was super clean and modern. Beautiful pool area that never felt overcrowded and never much of a wait at the bar. We actually preferred the beach area ourselves, it was quiet, clean and always 2 open chairs, along with servers who came down to take drink orders. We’re used to the Atlantic, so the water to us was beautiful! There were a few locals on the beach trying to sell you stuff, but they were friendly and weren’t too pushy. We eventually bought some things from them on our last day. Plenty of activities throughout the day. We did some snorkeling and kayaking, free, through the resort. Micheal was our guide for both outings. He was super friendly and knowledgeable of all the questions we had about Costa Rica. We Saw tons of fish and even a sea turtle! We talked with a couple who paid for a snorkle outing from a vendor on the beach and saw nothing. It was mostly 50+ crowd so nightlife ended early around 11 which was ok with us, we had our fun during the day. Amstar office on site which made booking excursions quick and easy. I booked our Mega combo excursion in advance of our trip through amstar, all we had to do was check in with them once we got there. Food was great! We were able to eat at the restaurant we wanted every night with no reservations. The barefoot grill was our go to lunch spot as it was quick, easy and light. We both loved the burgers and jalapeño poppers. Don’t be deterred by Aqua’s “healthy cuisine” tag, the food was excellent and turned out to be our favorite of all. We only got rm service breakfast couple times, good. lack of deserts and ice cream.
Honeymoon from hell
i came here for my honeymoon after hearing great things about Costa Rica and the chain of secrets resorts . But surprisingly it was a complete disaster. • we were supposed to have a romantic dinner on the beach & were moved from one side of the resort to another and then eventually behind a restaurant to accommodate other events that were going on ( mind you we had to book this way in advance so if there was events going on we should not have been offered that time slot ) • the pools close at 7 and there are not many things to do later on besides watch a movie . With it being an adults only all inclusive resort you’d expect a later pool time as well as some events / entertainment . • the food was blah . I would have liked more of an authentic experience. • and the WORST was on our last night there we have a romantic date in the wine cellar of the Italian restaurant . After telling them I’m an allergic to tree nuts I was served raviolis with shaved ALMONDS . When the manager was called in he proceeded to lie to me saying they were cheese and then dried fruit . He then suggested that “ the mind is a powerful thing “and if I feel like I’m allergic to something on my plate I will make myself sick so it’s best he takes it away . Knowing that he had lied to me you could see the concern on his and the waiters face as they kept coming in for random things ( really they wanted to check on my condition ) obviously I had to leave . What a horrible experience this has been . The only positive of the stay was bartenders/ pool waiters and pool area active staff were extremely polite Also for being a preferred guest you should receive more than just a selected restaurant for breakfast . The “ p. Bar” is a joke you literally walk through their office space to get to it
