Amazing Trip! We will be back!
We had a wonderful time at Secrets Papagayo! We went to visit in September 2019 to look into getting married there in 2020. The rooms were clean, the staff was excellent and the views are beautiful. There are a lot of shuttles services since the resort is pretty much on a mountain area. We were not up high so we were able to walk everywhere. Henry at the pool bar and Merari with the events team are amazing and made our trip so memorable! Truly one of the best trips we have taken and we will either be back to get married or for another visit!
Great place, but a heads up on the "people"
Room: Oceanview Suite with Plunge Pool. Time of year: Sept I'll start by saying the resort itself is immaculate! Everything there was pristine and absolutely gorgeous. The staff was exceptional and extremely accomodating in every way. The food was top notch at every restaurant on property....they even cooked the tuna we caught while off shore fishing and prepared a great dinner for us at the Seaside Grill. My ONLY Complaint about the trip was more of a personal preference, and I'll be perfectly candid so that others who are considering an all inclusive resort can use this info to make their own decision. We spent a significant amount of money on this trip, and especially for the suite with the plunge pool and ocean view. In fact, the cost is nearly double that of a "standard" resort room. By the way....the room was freaking awesome! Having said that, the one thing you should consider is that other people are going to an all inclusive resort and paying a fraction of the price for the standard room. Because of this, there were people there who were some what "trashy". Sorry, but that is the absolute truth. I can't tell you how many times I heard people say " I paid $2000 to be here, so I'm going to drink $2000 worth of alcohol". And clearly they did! The pool area is a good time, but there were a lot of people there getting absolutely trashed! If you came with your significant other to enjoy a weekend away, and your surrounded by drunks just looking to drink as much as possible, then you can understand why that would annoy some people. Now, the problem I have with this is that we paid nearly double the price and intended to stay at a high end resort to AVOID this exact type of situation, and yet, there was no shortage of drunks. It has a high end resort feel, but the truth is, anyone can share rooms and make this a cheap party on a budget. Sure, you can go to the "Spa Pool", but that doesn't change anything about the dinning. All the restaurants (except one) are located around the pool area. You really can't avoid it unless you hide in your room all week. I didn't spend $5k to be surrounded by trashy people looking to get wasted all day, every day. I don't care if this review sounds a bit harsh. If someone would have told me this before I booked, I would have seriously looked elsewhere. Great overall property and resort, but if I wanted to be surrounded by trashy people I would go to Bike Week in Daytona.....at least there it would be expected.
This resort is amazing. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing adult only getaway. Super frienly staff, delicious food, good drinks. They will try and sell you a membership but was not pushy and you dont have to go to the meeting if you dont want.
Fun Times in Costa Rica!
Secrets is a great resort and the employees are very friendly. It's a little challenging getting around the resort but the van drivers (especially JJ) make it fun. The restaurants are pretty good but there are some dress code restrictions so bring some slacks or jeans guys. The bars are fun. We especially enjoyed Luis at the Aqua bar. Enjoy!
A beautiful resort with very attentive staff
We spent our 25th anniversary at this resort and had such a great time, we didn't want to leave. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, but second Secrets resort. We are Unlimited Vacation Club members and upgraded our membership during our stay. That afforded us an upgrade to a Preferred Member room and extras after a couple of days. Our upgraded room had a nicer view than the non-Preferred Member room. Be prepared for lots of walking up and down steep hills. We used the transportation provided, particularly when it was raining or my knee couldn't handle the hills and steps. We ordered room service for dinner one night when it was too rainy to go out. It arrived quickly and was delicious. The restaurants were above average. Our favorite was Himitsu. We didn't do the hibachi, just sat at a table and had yummy sushi and stir fry. We had three days of excursions planned, so we never got a chance to try the pool or lay out much. The only day we had time to lay out, it rained most of the day. Bummer, but it is the rainy season. The only negative experience we had was in the Preferred lounge. We were so excited to have Preferred status for the first time, we went into the lounge one night to get a drink at the bar. There were other guests at the bar and the bartender was incredibly attentive to them. We stood there for at least 10 minutes waiting for our turn. The bartender never made eye contact with us. We figured maybe we didn't look like we belonged (we were formally dressed) or maybe we needed to bring cash to get his attention. It was disappointing, to say the least. Fortunately, that experience didn't put a damper on our stay. The transportation drivers were very helpful and friendly. We were impressed that they remembered our room number! Overall, a great experience!
