Not what I expected and when I said something I was told by the lady well you didn’t pay enough money for that. Also bell staff rude and not helpful when it come to getting rides and if you book your own they really snub you.
Great stay at the Outrigger Reef
Stayed from July 5-12 in a suite (2 'kings' and pullout sofa) floor 18 (top) Pacific tower. Check in was easy with no delay as others have stated. All staff was great, exhibited true Aloha attitude. We opted for the Voyager 47 package which if you can I highly recommend. The (oceanfront) view is fantastic and so is the food! I wasn't sure what to expect regarding the food but can honestly say it's not only good but it's absolutely a meal (breakfast or dinner) not just a continental breakfast or light hors d'oeuvres (for dinner). It's buffet style and I recall options such as Poke (almost always), Fish, pork, steak among other many other options and it was all very good (except the Buffalo wings style Cauliflower). As others mention, the Reef has that old school Hawaiian vibe to it which is sadly becoming less common. From the Hawaiian music played nIghtly at the pool, the decor and again the employees you really feel like you are in Hawaii. I would absolutely stay at the Reef again.
Our Wyndham time share laugh
Checked in to find it wasn’t the Outrigger I thought I had booked. My mistake for not checking properly. We wanted to stay on Waikiki beach, however got the reef instead. I enquired about switching to the Outrigger beach but was advised as I hadn’t booked directly with them, they couldn’t help. I will start with the room. Decent king sized bed with a couch that pulled out to be a double bed. Every time my son rolled over the bed creaked terribly. Obviously it was well used. Decided to do a tour to Pearl Harbour. The process was straight forward however the tour seemed very expensive. As we thought about getting there ourselves, a very vibrant staff member offered us $200 off if we attended the presentation by Wyndham on timeshare. We thought why not as $200 is serious coin. We attended the Wyndham presentation and were greeted with our own personal consultant (name I prefer not to mention). We were taken to the lounge for a meet and greet before the presentation. Many questions were asked about our favourite holiday destination. Amazingly our rep had a holiday planned there in January and she had even done the same university degree as our daughter. We then sat through a presentation on the benefits of being a Wyndham owner. There was lots of whoop whooping in the room of 40 people, usually from the sales consultants. Once the presentation completed the fun started. I asked our consultant up from the cost to buy in and was told the rate changes every day. We asked for a general figure however this was not forthcoming. We were asked where we wanted to go to and we said Greece. This stumped the consultant and she disappeared for 5 minutes before coming back with an IPad on Wyndham properties in Greece. Next minute her boss dropped by to tell us another interested couple would join us on a tour of a property. We then asked for Mykonos and the consultant wrote it down as Mickonose before leaving again and didn’t return. Her boss then came over and asked us to sign away $19980 for 126000 Wyndham points. We declined and were told we could leave by signing out. We were then led to another area which I quipped to my wife was the shock treatment room. We were then asked to pay $4000 for 130000 points. We declined and were led to another room to sign a final form and get our leave pass. What an experience. Fortunately our BS detector had these guys worked out. It was a fun experience to see the tactics used by Wyndham. In summary, the Outrigger reef was in a disappointing location and the time share push in the hotel is very poor
WOW! A wonderful Surprise!
We celebrated our 35th anniversary here for a week. Absolutely LOVE IT!! Ambrose checked us in and was a source of wonderful information. Our room was #1016, top floor corner with 3 lanai's to take in the amazing views of Diamond Head the ocean and all the surfers. Our room was beyond words! Views from the bedroom were spectacular and there was also a large window across from the shower where you could watch the surfers early in the morning. Housekeeping was great, room was spotless, amenities were great. Plenty of storage/closet space, dining room table and wet bar with mini refrig. and sink and a lovely large whirlpool soaking tub. Loved the shops in the hotel to browse, select gifts to bring home and enjoyed a couple of breakfast brunches at The Reef oceanfront dining. Valet was quick, never had to wait. Do hope the hotel replaces the old Reef restaurant with another so you have another dining choice besides pool/lobby area. All of the staff were wonderful and loved the location! Many dining choices nearby as well as every shopping experience your pocketbook can handle! We hated to leave and can't wait to return!!
Ok so it was 12 years ago I unfortunately stayed at this dump, I hope it's got better. On check in we was advised that we hadn't paid for our stay, we produced all paperwork to be told either pay or leave, explained we was on our honeymoon but again got told pay or leave, asked to speak to manager got told no manager working, as my wife was getting upset it was agreed that we could stay but had to repay for 2 nights at a time, we got offered a back room and not the honeymoon suite that we had paid for, after 2 days and hundreds of pounds worth of phone calls back to the uk we sorted out the problem which was in fact the hotels fault as they changed the way they deal with things a month before we got there. We requested the honeymoon suite that we had paid for only to be told they didnt have any spare as they booked our room again to someone else. On our first night we had dinner in the restaurant by the pool, it came to about $18 I handed over a $50 bill and waited for my change, time went by and we asked for our change only to be told they thought the change was for their tip!!!! Around the bar for a cocktail, we clearly saw what didnt fit in our glass get chucked down the sink, however if you as American the left over got poured into a 2nd glass. There was a information desk in the hotel, everytime you went there you was hassled to purchase a time share. There was a Starbucks inside the hotel, opposite was a McDonald's and Wendy's but it stunk of sewage outside and put us off, we tried to walk further out but soon got fed up with the hassle for selling timeshare. The beach was not as tropical as we thought, it as so pebbly it hurt your feet, after 2 days of a ruined honeymoon we tried to get a flight home. Never again will I ever visit this hotel or Hawaii. As said it was some time ago, but it has left a bitter taste in our mouths!
